A quick hello before I get on the road!
Shopping was fun – I got a few dresses. Loehmann’s not only has great prices but a wide variety of clothes! It’s kind of like TJ Maxx – you never know what they’ll have. I think 75% of the dresses I own have come from Loeh’s. Mom and I got matching ones!
We returned to dine in the cafeteria where I got a half tuna sandwich and a salad bar salad
My salad would have been even better if I had not spilled my ice tea INTO it at checkout!!! I sopped that up with some napkins – I couldn’t bear the thought of throwing it away and starting over. Perhaps this is a new dressing trend!?
Just got the word that I was nominated as one of Foodbuzz‘s Best Healthy Living Blogs!! Thanks to you all for the nomination – I would love the honor.
KERF won Best Food Blog 2009 [I was utterly shocked] and now there are a whole new set of exciting nominees!

Congrats on getting nominated!! You’ve totally got me craving pickles now.
Congrats on the nomination
Congrats on your nomination! I just cast my vote for you! Best of luck to you!
Congratulations. Yours is one of the first food blogs I came across and it has certainly inspired some of my decisions I made when setting up my own. I hope you win.
Congrats on the nomination, Kath!
Question for you — I’m trying to start eating naturally (no junk or processed “food”) and was wondering if you have some resources to suggest? I’ve ordered Michael Pollan’s Food Rules and visit your website 3x a day, along with Faith’s, Eating Bird Food, and Edible Perspective, and that’s about the extent of my research.
I guess I’m just overwhelmed and don’t know where to start. I weigh, um, a lot (a whole bit lot!) and want to start taking care of myself before it’s too late. I need a starting point — like, do you plan your menus for the week or just buy proteins and veggies and build your meals on the spur of the moment?
Hi Ellen, I’m in the same boat as you. I just wanted to recommend Carrots N’ Cake and the 100 Days of Real Food blog.
Good luck!
Hey Ellen! Welcome.
You’re off to a good start. I’d recommend reading the book Superfoods HealthStyle, by Dr. Steven Pratt. It’s a really easy read packed with research on which foods we SHOULD put in our bodies everyday rather than which ones we shouldn’t. Food Rules is great too! There are a bunch of other great books that are much lengthier – like Marion Nestle’s What To Eat or 101 Foods That Could Save Your Life. Generally I find blogs to be the most inspiring!
I already voted for you!!! You absolutely deserve it in my mind
Happy travels!
Never heard of Loehmann’s, but if it’s anything like TJMaxx, I’m sure I’d love it! I always love good deals.
Congrats on your nomination! You absolutely deserve it.
Congrats Kath! I haven’t heard of Loehmann’s (maybe because I don’t live in the US) but like Ashley said above, I sure know what TJMaxx is and if it’s similar, I’d be equally excited!
Congrats on your nomination! Sounds like you scored shopping too – love getting new clothes and new shoes.
Congrats on the nomination, much deserved because you do fit a lot into your life and still manage to eat great, exercise, cook, etc….
Congratulations on the Nomination!
i got my wedding dress from loehmann’s! it cost more to alter and get undergarments for…
Congrats on the nomination! You and Caitlin definitely deserve it. I don’t mean to be a hater, but I don’t know who the heck nominated those other blogs. Its one of my pet peeves when people blog about healthy living but don’t ‘walk the walk’ and eat well on a regular basis.
Congrats on best food blog!!! You deserve it
Hehe I am not sure ice-tea will catch on as the latest dressing trend….but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone out there tried it because of this post!! LOL! Congrats on the nom!
Yay new dresses
Loehmann’s is one of my favorite stores to buy teacher clothes! Unfortunately, the one in Columbia closed earlier this year, and the closest one is now near your grandmother (a bit of a drive for me). Oh, boo!
That is exciting!!!
That dressing sounds sort of gross….not gonna lie
Congrats on the nomination, Kath!!!
Congrats on the nomination! You are one of my favorites!
Congrats on the nomination!
Sounds like a fun day filled with shopping!
Congratulations Kath! You definitely deserve the award!
I saw you were nominated. congrats!
Holy Pickles! (Totally voted. Congrats!!!)
awww bummer with the iced tea! you’re such a good person to take it in stride, though. most people i know would have thrown a fit and demanded a new salad!
have a safe trip home
ahhhh awesome!! Congratulations Kath!!
And that tuna ball is ginormous!
Voted … and then got lost in all those foodie blogs! Who knew? Heh.
I love cottage cheese on a salad. And congrats on the nomination!
Congratulations! What a nice honor!
Congratulations! Looks like you had a successful day today too!
I’m new to your blog and absolutely love it here. You really deserve the nomination!
Welcome and thanks!
Hi There
I just discovered your blog yesterday and I am really enjoying it. Can you explain what real food is and perhaps list some reading resources around that subject that you love.
Welcome!
Real food to me is food in a form that is found in nature – or food from nature that has been minimally processed to make it more palatable, like milk or cheese or tofu or bottled sauce with simple ingredients or a Larabar that’s made of smooshed together real food. If I could have made it myself if I had the time and basic equipment (like a canner or ice cream maker) then it counts. What is NOT real food are ingredients that were made in a laboratory like isolated proteins, high fructose corn syrup, blue #5.
I’d say I eat real food 95% of the time.
About 10 comments up I just wrote out some resources I recommend!
It was been WAY too long since I’ve been to TJMaxx. I don’t know why but I never think to shop there!
Woohoo! Congrats on an exciting nomination! You deserve it.
And iced tea on salad. Well. You never know. I can kind of see how that might work.
CONGRATS on the nomination and have a safe trip home!!!
I don’t think I could have eaten the salad if I spilled my drink into it – I don’t like soggy lettuce!
COngrats on the nom! Haha I like that idea of new salad dressing!
congrats on the nomination! and what is this cafeteria you keep dining in?
My grandmother lives in a retirement community building that has a dining room, cafeteria, Bistro and things
The retirement place your grandma lives in looks wonderful. She looks happy there:)
Congrats on the nomination!!
That’s a cute/funny looking tuna sandwich. I dig it! And the pickles. Yum! Sorry about the iced tea dressing.
I’d feel horrible throwing it out too.
Congrats on the nomination, Kath! That is pretty awesome!
And there’s a Loehmann’s here, too. In the same shopping plaza as a Nordstrom Rack and about 1/10th of a mile from a Marshall’s. A deadly$$ combo
I LOVE Loehmann’s, and I voted for you as a top healthy living blog — nice to hear others agree!
Can we say side of pickles? (LOL)
Congratulations on being nominated, Kath!

big congrats on the well deserved nomination!!!
Congrats on the nomination!
Hi Kath! I’ve been reading your blog for a long time now, not sure I ever commented. I had a question I thought maybe you’d know the answer to since you’re an RD and all. I love artichoke hearts, right out of the can (with a good rinsing), I eat them all the time. I guess because of their lack if color I dont think they’re very nutritious and I don’t count them in my veggie servings. I was just wondering what you thought if their nutritional value?
Congrats on your nomination! I’ll throw a vote your way
Well I think they are nutritious because they still have the same nutrients panel fresh – they just might come along with some added sodium and/or oil. Rising them is a great solution. Count ‘em for your veggies!
Thanks
Also, I’ve made your kale chips a while ago and I’ve been eating them ever since!
Kath, did you eat all those pickles?! I highly approve! I am a pickle fiend myself, and it’s not just because I’m pregnant
I didn’t! I don’t love the sweet ones..
Congrats on the nomination and you already received my vote earlier today!
Point: RD! Keep representing us so well!!
Congrats on the nomination!
I’ve done the same thing before with knocking a drink into my salad. I wasn’t a fan – especially since my chicken got all soggy too!
I saw this on pinterest and thought of you!

AHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! Love it!
Something about those pickles with your sandwich is not sitting right with me….did they taste good? I feel like they look a little funky!
Anywho…CONGRATS on the nomination! Well deserved!
I didn’t love them – I only like dill and these were sweet!
I only like sweet, no dill
OMG, congrats on the nomination! And don’t worry about the iced tea, like you said, just a newstyle of salad dressing!
Impressive nominee Kath – Congrats!!
Good luck with FoodBuzz!
Congrats on your nomination! Must be a day for spilling tea…I knocked a full mug of hot tea all across the front desk at work while I was covering reception at lunch today :O I’m pretty sure I cleaned it all up before it penetrated any major computer stuff…nothing blew up by the end of the day so I hope I’m in the clear, lol.
Keep up the great work! Glad to hear about it and your inspiration for us!
I love your blog also and have learned a lot and changed some of my eating habits as well. I always ate veggies but now have 2 or 3 with my meals and you introduced me to so many new grains – like wheatberries. Love those:) Good Luck…I am going to vote right now.
Congrats on the nomination….well deserved!!!!
Congrats on the nomimation! Good luck!
yay for you…….you are
certainly deserving
