I went for a walk this morning in lieu of a run. Walks are more fun because there is more to do! Read, talk on the phone, listen to podcasts (well I guess you can do that while you run too). I’m hoping to keep running as long as it feels ok, but I have definitely dropped back a little bit on both frequency and distance.
On my walk I listened to a Pregtastic podcast, specifically the one on Exercise Myths. It was uplifting to BE exercising while I listened : ) Anna recommended this just yesterday and I’m so excited to listen to them all! They cover everything from hormones to diapers. And so convenient to just listen.
My lunch date today was with this adorable Stegosaurus!
I went to visit Finn and his mom Holly just after he was born. You didn’t know it then, but I knew I was pregnant, and holding this little one brought tears to my eyes!
Today we met for lunch at Eppies and talked about all things baby. It’s great to have a friend who can share some tips!
I ordered my favorite salad (A SALAD!) – the Santa Monica with cornbread. Sadly I forgot to request chicken on top (I thought it came with it) and missed that, but I’ll make up for it later.
It was a great filling salad regardless!
Holly and I talked for hours and I was able to feed Finn! He is SOOO cute!!
She’s a pro : )
The little guy fell asleep on our way out
But I got one tiny peek-a-boo
Holly brought me a Resee’s for dessert – she said she craved them during pregnancy. I hadn’t thought about it, but on my tongue it sure tasted great!
At the bakery! Time to work.

That baby is too cute! Love his hat
You look lovely with a baby on your arms
Oooh, corn cut off the cob AND cornbread?? What a treat! Reese’s Eggs were always my favorite – much superior to regular Reese’s. I’m so excited they’re doing more shapes like that! I just had a Christmas tree for the first time, and I hadn’t seen those hearts before – can’t wait to get one!
What a sweetie! Glad to hear that salads are appetizing again. I know every woman is different, but the end of the first trimester really was a turning point for me as far as the nausea. After that, I would eat almost anything in sight
I’m so impressed that you kept up with posting 3x a day these past several weeks. I struggled to post 3x a week during most of the first trimester.
To cute!!
that is the cutest baby hat ever!!!
kids these days have the cutest and coolest things!
OMG I love the name Finn! (Maybe because for all of Glee seasons 1 and 2 I thought Finn was the most gorgeous.. well, tied with Puck of course). Bah anyways, what a cute baby!! I can’t wait to hear more about the plans for Baby KERF – and maybe a new instalment of Home Neat Home: Baby Edition?
LOVE his little stegasauras beanie! so cute. glad you had a nice lunch date together! i’m sure it’s so nice to talk to someone that can relate and give you some tips and advice.
as for that Reese’s Heart… those are my favorite! i love the eggs and trees too – the holiday versions have more peanut butter in them!
I love a tasty salad for lunch…forgot how much I love the addition of corn…it adds a nice crunch!

I have become a huge fan of many products thanks to you and your blog, and one of my favorites is the Wild Squirrel nut butter company. I thought you might like to know that they celebrated their 1 year anniversary this week, and they credited you with having given their business the boost it needed to go from an on-campus venture to a real company. http://wildsquirrelnutbutter.tumblr.com/post/15764934869/a-ild-year
This is a wonderful testimony to the work you are doing with your blog! You have really made a difference is so many people’s lives!
Oh that’s nice to hear! They have a great product
I love the picture of you holding the little guy and that bottle of liquid gold. You will soon know the work involved in that little bottle
Pregtastic…too funny you mention it! Years ago I did a podcast for them because I’m a certified lactation educator and a friend and fellow LC asked me to tape an episode with her. They’re based in San Diego and I remember that day so well!
Oh cool!
You’re a natural. I love that cute hat too. =)
Finn is adorable and such a handsome lil man! Awww…hahaha i love his little hat. <3
I have been slammed at work with no time to keep up with blogs, so I am just now able to say CONGRATS! I am so excited for you and very eager to hear all about your journey. We are just now starting to talk about trying to have kids so it is interesting for me to see what everyone goes through.
Nice lunch, lovely salad.
If you do crave Reeses, you can make your own healthier version in a lined mini muffin tin with melted organic dark chocolate, for the antioxidants of course ; then pop it in the freezer 8 minutes, then add a layer organic peanut butter, pop in freezer 5 minutes, then one more layer of melted dark chocolate, pop in freezer a few more minutes. No high fructose corn syrup, no trans fats, all goooooood!
I make mine that way plus add nutritional yeast to the PB
Great idea..I love adding in chia seeds, raisins, and chopped nuts too.
Maria, that sounds so good! I think I’ll make some tomorrow. Thank you for posting this!
I always keep a batch in my fridge, for an after dinner sweet, or when I am, AHEM, “hormonal”!
Finn is precious! Such a great picture of you holding him!
It is so fun to read your posts since you have announced your pregnancy! Glad to see you eating a salad again–all is right with the world.
Cute post!! It must be so fun to hold a baby and to know you’ll have one before you know it!
Oh, you look so adorable holding the baby!! It’s good to get in ‘practice’ before your little one gets here!
That hat on him is too adorable!!!!!
Awwww he is so cute!!!! I’ve gotta find a dino hat like that.
I listened to a few of those pregtastic pod casts a while back but totally forgot about them. It’s nice listening and absorbing as much as you can during this time. I know for me there’s so much I don’t know!
Awww!! That hat is SO cute!
What a fun lunch date! He sure is a cutie!
Was it the Candlelit Monday post on the 19th that you told Matt?
Cute kiddo!
You look beautiful, Kath!
Looks like it! I think so
He is CUTE! And why must candy bars taste better in holiday shapes??
There is nothing sweeter this side of heaven than the first time you hold your newborn baby. Glad you’ll soon be experiencing the feelling.
Babies are so cute. Love the stegasaurus hat!
Aww, the baby is adorable! He probably would have brought tears to my eyes, too. I bet it’s different holding a baby when you know you’ll soon have your own!
I do hope you nurse, there is nothing REAL about formula
That’s pumped milk not formula
Yeah, thanks for asking Sarah, but it was breast milk in the bottle.
I absolutely plan to breast feed, but keep in mind that some women can’t – for whatever clinical reason – and it would be offensive and hurtful to them if you made a comment like this and they had tried everything before switching to formula. Sometimes it’s needed as a supplement to breast milk just to get in calories and macronutrients when supply is low or babies have trouble latching. The alternative – starvation – is not an option.
Kath, thanks for your reply here.
I find Sarah’s comment deeply insulting. As you say, for some reason people are not able to breastfeed (and indeed for some people it is a matter of choice) and formula is the next best thing available. In some instances it is a case of giving your baby formula or they fail to thrive. That, to me, is a no brainer.
No woman should be made to feel guilty or inadeqaute because they cannot breast feed their child.
Very well said! I pumped for the first three months before switching to formula for my (now 13 year old) daughter, and it was exhausting. Even though I went on to successfully breast feed my younger daughter for two years, there is a part of me that feels bad that I couldn’t do this for my older daughter. We put so much pressure on ourselves to be perfect parents. We need to be kinder to each other and to ourselves about the choices we make when parenting.
I’m really pleased to read your reply to this comment Kath
my son was formula fed and it can be really hurtful (even now he is nearly 3 and long past his milk only days!) for a mother to read comments like that. Nursing is fab if you can do it but if not formula will keep your baby healthy and growing and that’s all I was bothered about.
Kath, I have never commented before but have been reading your blog for about a year and absolutely love it – especially your evening posts. Before stumbling upon your blog, I rarely thought about what I put in my mouth (fortunately, it had yet to catch up with me), but now I’m happy to say “real food” has become a growing interest, hobby and simply enjoyable part of my life. Thanks for the inspiration toward the foodie AND blog world!
Also, so happy you are going to be a mom! You seem like you would be the most wonderful mother.
Thanks for your comment Carolyn!
Love that baby hat — and he looks good on you
Hooray for salad!
“Holding this little one brought tears to my eyes!”
That is adorable. I can just imagine how exciting it felt!
Mucho congratulations on the news.
BTW, how do I get an avatar on your comments section?
Haha you had me Googling avatar and only came up with the movie!
You want to go to GRavatar and sign up so you can associate a photo with your email address: http://en.gravatar.com/
Nice! Thanks for the tip. I hate being so pale in comments sections.
Kath,
First of all, CONGRATS! Such wonderful news is always cause for celebration. I’ve been catching up on entries/comments for the last few days, and just wanted to lend some support to you – you likely don’t need it
but as someone who was incredibly ill during my first 2 trimesters I can completely sympathize with how hard some days can be. I lost over 17 pounds within the first 16 weeks of my pregnancy (I had weight to lose, so fortunately this didn’t put my baby at risk) and seriously thought I was going to die some days. I couldn’t even imagine trying to move a toe off the edge of the bed, much less taking photos, writing blogs, keeping up with work, etc. Pregnancy is different for everyone….in my experience, it’s women who had easy (seemingly effortless) pregnancies who tend to cast the most judgment on those of us who struggled. To that all I can say is, walk a mile in my shoes then come talk to me!
I wish you all the best on a healthy, happy pregnancy. Enjoy this time, as it passes all too quickly. I love that you’re aware that “things can happen”, but as a mom who had her baby dx with a disease at age 2, the reality is stuff can happen anytime. It’s not worth living in fear of the “what ifs” – you miss too much of the good stuff if you do! Keep up that positive outlook and remember that there is no “right” or “wrong” way during a pregnancy….there’s just “your” way.
Thanks Sarah! I cannot imagine what this would have been like with any medicine help
Oh my goodness, little Finn is too cute for words!
Oh my goodness the baby is solo cute!
Ahhhh I’m so excited to read your future posts about your pregnancy! My husband and I have been talking about having a baby…ahhh this is so exciting! Thank you for sharing this with us.
So happy to catch up and read your news today! My “baby” turned 21 last Sunday. She has been the biggest joy of my life. I wish the same love and happiness for you and your husband.
Hey Kath! So happy to hear you’re expecting! As far as exercise goes, it’s been documented that women who participate in moderate to strenuous exercise (the kind that produces all those feel-good endorphins) throughout their pregnancy actually produce way more of those same endorphins (that help manage pain) during their labors! So, as long as you have your doctors okay, keep exercising away- you’ll be thankful for it in the end!
I’ve read the same!
I love the Reese’s Easter eggs that come out every Easter! I did not know that they have heart ones. For some reason, though, I do not care for regular Reese’s cups. I think it has something to do with the edges around them
http://faithfulsolutions.blogspot.com/
I love corn on salads! I always seem to forget about it, and then think duh, how could I forget?! When I see it, haha! Out of sight, out of mind, maybe?
awww the baby is SO CUTE!
Finn is super adorable!!!!!!!! Want to hug him
The post where you first met Finn had me suspecting that you and Matt were pregnant (or at least trying). There was something about your ‘tone’ describing the meeting that seemed different than the other times you’ve posted about your interactions with babies.
Congratulations. Being a parent is the hardest work, but it it’s the BEST work.
Ugh cutest hat ever, are you kidding? Love it.
Also, a belated “via-blog” congratulations to you!! :]
Such an adorable baby!!
Charlottesville looks so gorgeous in these photos! I love the small town feeling. I’m from Canada and have never been to the southern united states (would love to go)!
HE IS A CUTIE!!!
Hahahhaahaha for a second I thought this was your baby and was SO confused! Quickest pregnancy ever?
You look like a natural with the baby Kath
that little stegosaurus is adorable!
So glad you liked the podcasts! That dino hat– I’m DYING. So cute.
Oh my gosh I just want to eat little Finn up!!! HOW adorable!!
Oh my gosh, Kath. You’re going to be an amazing mother… Just the way you talk about pregnancy and the excitement that surrounds it — you even take the nausea no problem! Still so happy for you. AND that baby is the cutest thing !
Thanks Casey
Although I don’t take the nausea no problem – I’m horrible with it! Hence the medicines
Congrats on your pregnancy! It seems we are due around the same time (I’m August 23rd) but I’m having twins! Crazy enough, I’ve had NO nausea at all, just majorly tired 24/7!
You look like a natural! What a cutie
awww, such a lovely baby.
I wanted to try Reese’s butter cups for a very long time, and living in the UK I never came across them until very recently. I bought two packs of butter cups, and then read the ingredients – genetically modified beets, soy, corn, and probably something else I can’t remember. Such a disappointment! But glad I tried them, it is good to have a treat once in a while
