This evening we a double date – Lauren and her husband Toly are here on a getaway and wanted to spend a dinner with us – how romantic!!
After attempting to get into a few restaurants with 2 hour waits, we settled into a cozy nook at Petit Pois. Matt and I ate here back in 2005 on our own romantic getaway to Charlottesville and we had yet to go since moving here nearly 1.5 years ago!
The dinner was excellent!
I debated spending the money on a starter salad, but I really wanted something to munch before our entrees came and am so glad I went with it – this was one great fru-fru salad! Beets, goat cheese and pine nuts with an excellent grain mustard dressing. Loved the little dressing pitcher!
Matt had a poached egg salad – equally delicious!
My main course was a broth with Shrimp, Scallops, Mussels, Clams and Calamari. It was really really good (I love seafood medley dishes!), and I loved dipping the toast points into the broth. Matt’s scallop dish, however, was INCREDIBLE! I can’t even describe the flavor – it was almost vanilla-y!? Our server said there was no vanilla involved though. I’d like to go back and eat that again!
The four of us split two desserts to end the meal –
A rich chocolate hazelnut mousse
And an apple crisp! The vanilla ice cream made it.
Both were incredible, but we all said the hazelnut mousse was the winner.
Had a great time with Lauren and Toly! Two couples are better than one.

Lauren is such a sweetheart. I would love to meet her in person and her hubby, too. What a great meetup and the dinner (and desserts) look fab!
Just curious…what was the price for dinner for four? Just wondering what you budget for “entertainment” type dinner when guests come into town.
Our portion was about $100. It goes into our entertainment budget for the month, so maybe next weekend we’d eat somewhere less pricey to balance it out
$100 for two people? Seems pricey for the meal, but this is a food blog so you’re not eating at Applebee’s or some other chain.
$100 seems like a bargain for two! Although I live in the SF Bay Area so my view is a bit different. For example, my husband and I went out last weekend and our total was $225 before tip.
Kath and Matt seem to rarely eat out, so I can understand really splurging on a gourmet meal if you have the budgeted. When you add up wine + salad + entree + dessert -$50 is pretty reasonable.
That’s it, this post made me realize how long it’s been since Glenn & I have gone out on a date. Tomorrow it is. I see dinner and yogurt in my future. No kids.
I second this! No dinner out is complete without frozen yogurt.
Kath – if I’m ever in the area, I will most certainly be looking to your blog for restaurant suggestions. Your meals look great!
I love Lauren! How fun , looks devine!
What a great Friday night!:) Glad you enjoyed!
Aw, sounds like such a great night! Great company, great food, what more could you ask for?
All your meals looked mouth-watering!

Ooooh, your salads and entrees look delish!! I’m so jealous that you can get a salad with all frisee in it; I LOVE it but can never find it outside of a mixed field greens tub.
I love seafood medleys, too. Yummy!
Your main course looks mouth-watering! I had a seafood tagine last night for dinner…love me some calimari!
Lauren and Toly! Can’t believe I still haven’t met her yet.
Seafood or fish is always my choice when dining out. I love trying dishes that I would not normally create at home. Looked like a lovely evening out…good food and good friends…what more could you want…enjoy!
SO jealous you got to meet Lauren! LOVE that girl!
I love desserts served in martini glasses, instantly fancy!
The salad looks amazing! I think I might do a version of it for my lunch today
The hazenut chocolate mousse does sound delicious!
Amazing dinner. How do new business owners get to go out to eat all the time? You weren’t too busy!!
I would guess because most bakeries open in the wee hours of the morning and are closed by the dinner hour – good for them for having a balanced life and having fun with friends
What fun!!
I would bathe in chocolate hazelnut mousse if that was sanitary and/or socially acceptable. That one looks SO. GOOD.
I LOVE seafood medley’s! SO delicious!
Wow, your salad=amayzing! It drove me to check out the pea’s menus…totally impressed! Committed to your bountiful local providers AND reasonable prices!! If you ever do a Sunday brunch, please go back…did you SEE that menu??! If/when I get to Cville, they’re now on the list!
I haven’t – I bet it’s amazing!
Awww sounds like fun!
Aww, date nights are the best! Looks like you had an amazing night.
how fun! i love double date nights… so fun that you were able to see lauren + toly!
I am craving apple crisp now.. what a great dessert option!
If there’s not a fried egg on my salad, there better be some goat cheese. Sounds like a good restaurant!
Looks yummy! I’ve had a hankering for seafood lately–not exactly something you can find too easily on a college campus, though. Bummer!
We had a great time hanging out with you guys and especially over such a fantastic meal! Thanks for being so hospitable and showing us the real CVille. Hope to see you guys again sometime and good luck with everything! I’ll be thinking of you.
Nothing is better than a beautiful salad and seafood! You and Matt always seem to enjoy great local restaurants, much like my husband and I.
I love seafood medly dishes as well…looks fantastic!
