We had a great time playing with little Lillian and little Baby Hart-Unger, in the womb that is!
Lillis Billis is in her geriatric years, but she still rules the roost
Got lots of attention from dad at breakfast!
I left Hillsborough around lunchtime to meet my friend from childhood, Kirst, to catch up over a cup of tea.
Kirst is a nurse at Duke!
I sipped a peppermint tea with steamed milk while we talked for an hour
And at 1pm, I headed over to Sarah’s!
I haven’t attended many baby showers, so this was loads of fun for me – especially considering the little one growing inside of me!
I started off with a mimosa flute of OJ
And soon we dug into a gorgeous spread of sandwiches, salads and cupcakes!
I enjoyed egg salad
And LOVED this spinach salad!! The fruit also tasted incredible : )
For dessert I tried the vanilla and lemon meringue cupcakes and a chocolate one later on!
We entertained with several fun games – including onesie decorating
A hilarious game of memory that involved prizes to fit the matches uncovered.
Hospital bills = 100 Grand
Baby giggles = Snickers
Triplets = Three Musketeers
Umbilical cord = Twizzlers
Conceptions = a bag of Lays!
Laundry = Mounds bar
There was also an adorable baby who entertained Sarah’s parents, the excited grandparents, most of all!
Sarah opened many gifts – both practical –
And beautifully homemade!
I gave her several “food themed” gifts for breastfeeding : ) And an autographed copy of my mom’s book!
Party favors were assembled by Sarah’s sister Rebecca in cute mason jars with assorted edible contents! I chose the chocolate-covered sunflower seeds since something nutritious was inside!
Sarah, gorgeous as ever, is nearly 34 weeks. I’m nearly 13!
This afternoon at Sarah’s I was able to use the home doppler she had borrowed from Jessica to listen for the baby’s heartbeat. We found it!!!! I made a video of the beautiful sound and will share on BERF soon! SO exciting!!!
ALSO, my laptop is 4 years old and nearing the end of its life. After wrestling with a quintuplet of issues all at once from memory card errors (thought I had lost all of my shower photos!) to Lightroom not wanting to open, I gave up and am blogging from my mom’s computer. SUCH a pain and something that might spark a laptop purchase this week before our trip to San Diego this coming weekend. Traveling is the absolute worst time for me to have to sit and twiddle my thumbs waiting for the computer to work!
After the shower, I drove home in sleet and SNOW (!) to a home-cooked meal by mom.
At special request, she made one of my favorites: BBQ Chicken. The sauce in this recipe is just awesome!
We also had brown rice (smothered in the BBQ sauce) and sautéed apples! Mom has often done a fruit as the “produce” side at dinner – apples or orange segments in the winter or strawberries in the summer. I think it’s weird, but it’s also super delicious!
For dessert, we watched “In The Womb,” which I got on Netflix. It was quite incredible and also hard to believe! We had sundaes on the side!
After a big bowl of ice cream, Lillis the buffalo decided to come nestle onto my stomach. She rarely gets up from her corner of the couch and she’s been giving me tons of attention. We think she’s eager to play with the baby inside!
We have a blanket of snow both here and in Cville. Cozy night!

Glad you enjoyed your day.
I would love to know your recommendations on a good laptop as well or what to look for if you don’t mind sharing in the future!
I have had 4 HPs and have been really happy with all of them. (Getting 4 years out of this one exceeded expectations) and I am in LOVE with my HP Elite Desktop.
So rather than spending hours researching them online, I’ll probably just go to a store and find a super thin lightweight high performance HP and get that.
I love the onesies you decorated! What a good idea, and yours look so nice. And the candy bar prizes are so clever!
Go MAC!! You’ll never go back
I had a PC for forever and got my MacBook Pro in 09′ and haven’t had ONE issue since! It’s amazing!
What a fun day you had. And such a fun game of candy with ‘words’ about babies. SO cool. I love baby showers-they’re always so full of love, laughter, and fun. <3
Never!!! I worked on a Mac for a year and never really liked it. And I’ve seen lots of Mac users have trouble, so I think it’s a toss up quality-wise since Windows 7 came out. Plus for blogging you HAVE to have Windows Live Writer.
Haha. I LOVE my Mac, so I’ll stop there
I am just not a PC gal. Good luck searching for the laptop you want!
*when I said for forever I meant that I had PCs and all of ‘em took forever to do anything and had tons of issues, but now the Mac, nada.
I’m also Android all the way
It’s just my preference! I’ve used Mac and iPhone so I’ve given them both a fair test. Nothing against them though
Looks like a pretty fun day!
Mmmm sundaes….
what a FUN day filled with all sorts of cute and delicious eats! i love the chocolate covered sunflower seeds in the mason jar!
I love your outfit
And I like the arrows on the side, really cool addition!
Glad you like ‘em!
I love that quilt for a baby shower gift! Looks like you had a wonderful afternoon!
Do you know if the shower lunch was catered? The food looks impressive!
It was, but I’m not sure who did it. The sandwiches tasted homemade!
Those are the cutest Peter Rabbit plates!
Thanks! Love my Potter plates. Here they are on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dgarden&field-keywords=peter+rabbit+wedgwood&x=14&y=15
Your mom’s plates are awesome! I’ve loved everything bunnies ever since I was a little girl – and need to get my hands on those!
my favorite part of showers is the food and this food looks AWESOME!
What a beautiful quilt!! I am always amazed by people’s quilting abilities… amazing!
How old is Lillis? My senior cat is 18 & he rarely leaves his corner of the sofa, either. He is nestled on his warming blanket most of the time. The shower looks like such fun, especially those cupcakes. Be careful in the snow!!
Lillian is about 17. She spends a good bit of her time on the couch too, but really perked up when Kath got here. She sends her best to your kitty!
That Boudreaux’s Butt Paste she opened is made by a pharmacist in my home town in Louisiana. It is definitely a product you will want for your baby. I have used it on all 3 of mine! Also noticed your Peter Rabbit plates. My mom saved mine as well as my Bunnykins china and my children use them daily now, especially the bowls.
I love sauteed apples. I make them often in the microwave. So quick and easy. The lemon meringue cupcake looks delicious. Hope it was as good as it looked. Glad you had a great time sipping OJs and hanging with great friends.
SD…you’ll be in my neck of the woods.
That’s so fun that you guys got some pregnancy time together! I remember when you two would go on runs together!
Glad you made it home safe despite the snow
what a wonderful day!
So, this post reinforces the sad fact that you are surrounded by more delicious food in one day than I get to experience in a month! You are one lucky girl…or two soon?
I love sandwich spreads, they’re more exciting to me than cupcakes.
I eat fruit as a side dish too and I think it’s fantastic. A nice change-up from broccoli.
Looks like a good day! Plus, any day ending with ice cream is great in my book!
What an awesome afternoon and day…everything from the quilt to the onesies to the great food…looks like a fabulous day.
And congrats on hitting 13 weeks! 1/3rd done already!
I’m like you..eating fruit as my produce is weird…there always has to be some kind of veggie. Fruit is more the dessert part of my meal!
Fruit as produce with a meal is not weird!! It’s Southern and possibly German!
What a fun day, Oh Lillis is showing her age but what a sweetheart. Im going to my nieces shower in March, cant wait. Glad you enjoyed your day.
I’m getting so excited to see BERF!
DITTO!
Sounds like a busy, fun day!
I love baby showers! The spread of food looks so pretty (and tantalizing!)
You look gorgeous, by the way!
More often then not there is nothing wrong with the laptop itself and instead it is the software on the computer (which can actually show up as hardware issues). If you really want to extend the life of your current laptop just clean house. Wipe the hard drive and reinstall. It will be like a brand new laptop. You could do it such that you install all the software you need and then immediately image your computer. Then you always have a point to go back to when it gets bogged down again. And if you upgraded to Windows 7 from something else adding a little memory will also go a long way. Going from a 32 bit OS to a 64 bit OS automatically uses more memory.
Thanks for the advice
Actually not every computer can go from 32-bit to 64-bit just by upgrading the OS. The motherboard needs to be 64-bit compatible. Otherwise, 64-bit Windows 7 will not be truly 64-bit; it’ll just operate in 32-bit mode or won’t run at all, I’m not sure which.
64-bit OSes are becoming more standard now, so you could extend your computer’s life a bit by cleaning up — maybe a year or so, but you’ll need to buy a new one soon enough.
oh – baby showers are the best! Looks like the one you went to was a nice one too.
What a cute baby shower! I can’t wait until I start going to things like that. I’ve only been to one baby shower, which was really just a cocktail party, nothing baby themed…
Love your baby shower outfit!!
Lillian makes me sad for some reason.
She just looks so old.
I have a cat named Lily, too! She’s a young chicken, but boy is she lazy
The candy bar memory game is so cute. I also really like the customized onesies. The activities have come a long way from when I went to one; we had to grab a diaper and whoever had a raisin (ew!) in theirs won. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’d say that is gross and definitely not winner material.
I love th Eat Real Food onesie “)
I wish there was snow here!

While you may have had good intentions, isn’t it more customary to give gifts at a shower that will actually be useful to the new mother? It seems like your gift was comprised of items you had handy and were therefore convenient for you to throw together. Unless she has trouble with milk production during breastfeeding, there really is no particular food that she would need outside her normal routine. And your mother’s book says it’s appropriate for ages 5 and up. If this is a somewhat close friend, it seems you will have plenty of opportunities to give her a signed copy of the book for future birthdays when it is more practical.
I also hope that when you were listening to your baby’s heartbeat, this was after the shower was over and most people had gone home. Generally, the shower is about making the mom-to-be the center of attention. While it may be fun that you are pregnant at the same time, it is not really the right occasion to draw attention to your own pregnancy.
Always so quick to assume I’m a horrible person…
The gifts came straight from Sarah’s registry.. They were things she wanted.
And of course we waited until after the guests left to listen and went in the back bedroom.
Kath – good for you for standing up for yourself and acting classy in your response!
This is a ridiculous comment.
I would suggest framing your comments as questions instead of just jumping straight to accusations and judgments. Kath does her best to make this blog an open, friendly environment. It seems unnecessary to automatically think the worst of her. Just a friendly reminder to consider the golden rule!
Next time you’re on Netflix be sure to check out Ricki Lake’s “The Business of Being Born” and “More Business of Being Born”–I love when my childbirth couples come to class having seen these
Just watched it last week! Blogged about it at the end of a post.
Shoot–I missed that–been away for the past 5 days with my sons at a water polo tournament–I’ll go search for it now
I am so happy that Rebecca forwarded your blog address on to me so I could see the beautiful photos from the baby shower. I appreciate all that you wrote and the wonderful photos. Congrats on your own pregnancy.
Thanks for stopping by Jessica!
Had to do a double- take- didn’t even see her belly at first! Looks like a nice spread- love the presentation on those sandwiches!
When I was pregnant (back in the dark ages) I made my own “mimosas’ with equal parts of orange juice and diet sprite. Surprisingly tasty and no one knew the difference.
I love Lillis Billis SO MUCH. She could be best friends with Penelope. They would love each other!!
That shower was beautiful! So excited you got to hear the heartbeat too!! Very exciting!
A silly cat and Peter the rabbit plates? I wanna come play at your house! Love your blog!
Peppermint tea with foam!!! that reminds me…i need to start using my ikea milk foamer again! Have you been using yours a lot still?
We don’t do baby showers in England, we wait until the baby is born and take a gift for Mummy and baby when we visit for the first time. They look really fun though and it is a wonderful idea to spoil the Mummy to be.
That’s funny you think it’s weird that your mom serves fruit as a side because you so often do that at lunch! Yours is just raw. We are more like our mom’s than most of us care to admit….;)
