Wednesday.
Tuesday night was amazing – in contrast to the previous 2 nights at home, he slept for THREE HOURS STAIGHT …..twice!! I couldn’t believe it when I woke up a few times to find him still peacefully snoring next to me. I wonder if my quality over quantity strategy was effective? He certainly does seem to be nursing a bit better in the past 24 hours.
But if I’ve learned one bit of advice from other moms it’s that you can’t rely on anything – so I’m sure this was just a bit of good luck : ) Maybe he was as tired from the weekend of labor + delivery as I was.
I took him to Matt when we woke up and took a really, really long hot shower. Put on make-up and dried my hair – we had a special newborn photo shoot scheduled!!
Quick bowl of cereal to start –
Raisin bran, granola sprinkle, berries, milk, chia seeds
The fabulously talented and fun Sarah Cramer came over and we had a smashing morning around the house –
A sneak peak!! I am so, so, so glad we decided to do a newborn shoot! As camera happy as our household is, there is nothing like a professional to get those perfect moments captured as beautifully as possible.
Sadly Matt had to go into work for a while, so we were on our own for lunch. But we had a fridge full of leftovers to use up!
I had a mixture of last night’s Thai food and a big bottle of water. The breastfeeding thirst has set in!
In the afternoon, I wore the babe while I worked on my computer for a bit and then had visits from two friends – Lynsie and Alice! Lynsie brought us dinner (see below) and Alice brought me some Guinness and some mom advice : )
I squeezed in about 1/4 of a nap somewhere in here.
When Matt got home I was starving and pinned to the couch, and he presented me with a brand new Apple Cheddar Scuffin – hot. It was INCREDIBLE! Just what I needed. I had a glass of milk too!
Then we packed up the peanut and went for a walk –
Just a short one… in the Bugaboo! It was so fun to push!! He did really well in it until he got really hungry at the end of our visit.
Down to the farmer’s market! Matt has made friends with so many of the vendors and couldn’t wait to show Maze to them. I’ve also been going down pregnant the last few weeks and it was so fun to have the baby outside this time : )
We talked to him about the importance of a colorful diet : )
Back home, we opened that Guinness, famous for it’s milk supply boost
, to share.
And headed up Lynsie’s dinner –
This meal was so generous and wonderful – it tasted incredible!
Chicken with pesto pasta and baby kale salad
Baby face. I hate eating dinner because it means he has to sit separately!
And some blondie from the bakery for dessert
What day of the week is it!?

Can’t wait to see the photos!!
What fancy baby meals! You guys must have some amazing friends. Happy Friday!
Ahh he is SO cute Kath!! The photo of the 3 of you on the bed is adorable.. that’s one for the mantle!
Oh my goodness, that picture of him in the wrap just melted my heart and made me wish my sisters would have more babies! He seriously is so cute.
I LOVE the pic of you wearing Maze! He looks snug as a bug in a rug
He really is a beautiful baby Kath!
Hi, Cooking tonight for a pregnant friend !
A bit different but ur post is still very inspiring !
How are you liking the functionality of the bugaboo?? We recently found out that we’re having twins and the duo set up of the Donkey seems like it’s our best bet. I’m just concerned that it has too many gadgets and would be complicated and heavy to use!
Ehhhh…I don’t think I would buy one. I would just get one of those travel systems and a jogging stroller. But since you’re having twins, it might be worth something fancier. The Bugaboo is not the easiest to do one-handed (actually it’s impossible) and it’s not small either. But as a hand-me-down, it’s been great
Thanks Kath!
We have a bugaboo & love it. We live in NYC & it does great on bumpy sidewalks & in small stores. I haven’t had any trouble pushing it one handed & it turns in a tight circle easily. There is a setting on the tires to adjust this. It’s very simple to close up too & light weight. We have the bee but we see lots of donkeys around.
Sorry, but he’s so cute I’m going to have to eat him.
Also, liking your tops, especially the pink one.
Look how cute that bug is in his bugaboo! Leftovers should always look that good! YUM!
Happy Friday!
Kath, you glow! Transition into mommy hood seems to have gone smoothly. So happy for all of you.
Mazen is SO ADORABLE. I LOVE his eyes!
That’s so funny she brought you Guinness! I was shocked to learn on the tour in Dublin that doctors used to prescribe it to women who just had babies. Enjoy that iron!
It’s quite the thing in the UK – my English great-grandmother swore by it for nursing mothers, for the iron. My 6’6″ granddad just turned 89, so…
Hey Kath! Another long time reader but not a commenter. Have to say – your son is beyond adorable. Congratulations!
Nursing thirst is fierce! I had not experienced anything like that before. The hunger is crazy too! I definitely craved more sweets after each nursing session with my boys. I always wondered if it was due to the sweetness of breast milk? At any rate…it was crazy! Kath, Mazen is just so adorable! I hope you get more rest in today!
The newborn pictures are incredible! I would *never* guess that you just had a baby!
Wow, I just love the picture of the three of you on the bed. How photogenic all of you are. What great friends you have…and Maze is beautiful. Love the posts:)
Kath you have the best friends! Dinner looks amazingly delish!!! Just love looking at Mazen’s photo’s. Keep em coming. Enjoy your week end.
I keep thinking those red owls are lobsters!
What sweet friends you have
What a beauty Mr. Mazon is.
And great sneak peak at the photoshoot
(ps, the baby wearing looks like fun!)
Awww that must be fun to show him off to everyone who saw you pregnant!
You have a beautiful new mama glow!!!!!
You look gorgeous! Apple cheddar scuffin? Need it in my mouth. So happy for y’all!
maze is so adorable!!! and u look great!! –much loves
from long time reader in Singapore
Maze is so sticking precious and cute! I am so jealous of you right now! Nothing like snuggling with a new one. It goes so fast, soak it in, as the song goes, “you’re gonna miss this.”
God you look so good! Jewelry and everything. I am über impressed.
Kath how do you like your carrier? I’m looking at them now and am worried it will be tough to get him into on my own when home alone. Which one are you using? Is it pretty easy with some practice?
Love the photos!!
Thanks!
Love love it!! I can put it on in about 30 seconds now, and he naps well in it (just have to make sure he doesn’t get too hot, so going in with just a diaper has been better right now)
There’s tons of info on great carriers and how to get your newborn all the way to toddler settled into a carrier on thebabywearer.com
I found a lot of very helpful, very supportive internet mama friends there as well.
I know that everyone says pregnancy makes you glow… But Kath, having a baby makes you look positively RADIANT! You look so happy
And I’m loving all of the pictures. Can’t wait to see some from the photo shoot!
Glad the Boba Wrap is working out! I love it myself. What sort of carrier do you plan to use once he gets too heavy for the wrap? I don’t remember if you picked one out.
Will you share more about the encapsulation soon? I am debating trying it out and made a note to ask my OB at my next visit.
I have a Boba carrier too – they were both given to me to review which I will be doing soon. I haven’t tried out the carrier yet though, but I love the wrap
Oh, I love the Boba 3G! I borrowed one from a friend to try and am now saving my pennies to get one for this baby!
Wraps can go on up to 40+ lbs if you use a woven wrap (brands like Didymos, BBSlen, Girasol, etc.). We still wrap with my 3 year old toddler – he goes on the back mostly. There are tons of wrap options out there that last much longer than the stretchy wraps.
What a great idea getting pictures. You will cherish those forever.
Mazen looks like he’s already changing and he looks so much like you.
I’m glad you got some decent sleep. Makes all the difference in the world.
Love him all snuggled up in his orange owl blanket! What a wonderful meal your friend put together for you! I am going to be whipping up some basil pesto (nut/dairy free) with the basil from my garden this weekend…pesto pasta is on my mind. I remember enjoying Guinness with my second son…I like to think it was helping with my milk supply.
Can’t wait to see the rest of the newborn shots!!
I love the baby wearing picture! I swear, baby wearing is the best thing that ever happened to me. I didn’t discover it until my son was six weeks old, but now he’s 18 and a half months, and I’m almost 29 weeks pregnant, and I still wear him all the time. I plan on wearing this one as well. In fact, I’ve been researching double wearing, and I’m going to attempt to put the toddler on my back and the baby up front. I’ve got four different carriers, and I love them all for different reasons. I think I may need a new one for the baby. I also think I’ve got a bit of a problem! I love them so much that I could spend ALL of our money on just baby carriers!
Kath, have you given Mazen a bath yet?
Yes, coming in tomorrow’s post!
Don’t you just love having dinner ready for you? I had a couple of people bring meals with my first, even more with my second, and a ton of meals this last month when I had surgery. What a blessing it is to get meals and what a blessing the people who bring them are.
This kind of sounds silly after 24 years of marriage and kids, but I have always been a little intimidated to bring meals to people when they were in need. This time around, I took notes on what meals people brought to me (they were all delicious, even though some were super simple). And, I loved the takeout pizza and Thai food as much as the homemade because it truly is the thought that counts. I think now I am finally ready to sign up the next time someone needs meals.
that child is going to be the most well-educated foodie around! I’m jealous:)
Crossing my fingers that the three hour stretches aren’t just luck! …..Quality is waaaaay better than quantity when it comes to the feeding- I totally agree. ……Hope the photos are AMAZING! The two posted are super cute!
Aww can’t to see more photos from the shoot! You’re looking great, Kath!
You are gorgeous ! It makes me happy to looks at your pictures – such a sweet wonderful family!
Maze looks like Matt – WOW !
Ohhh can’t wait to see the newborn photos!
awww can’t wait to see more pictures! I love how you’re blogging the whole day
He is so stinkin’ CUTE!!!!!!
I want to hold him!
Congrats on all that sleep! Now THAT is even more awesome than all those gorgeous tomatoes
He’s such a gorgeous boy!
Also, I love that shade of pink you have on for the photoshoot – it really suits you.
I hope those long stretches of sleep last for you! I’m sure you’re hoping that same thing, lol.
Love the sneak peak at the newborn photos!
Oh my word! He gets cuter every day! Congratulations!
I get so happy seeing your photos. Such a beautiful family
I love the updates, and you look great! But what I really want to know…how does the beer taste after all this time?! Is it mind-blowing good to taste again, or have you lost some of the excitement for it after such a long time off?
Mind-blowingly good is a good description : )
Congratulations on your beautiful baby boy!! It took me a while to get used to nursing my twins, I almost gave up, but my mom asked me to stick it out for 2 weeks, which I did, and I stuck with it, even when I got a bad case of mastitis. It took almost a week before my milk finally came in, I kept thinking to myself that they were going to starve to death.
, Now I am 41 years old, and have 3 kids in college, the twins are 18. I know you have heard this a million times, but time does fly by. Enjoy every second!!
Can’t wait to see the rest of the shoot
Kudos for nursing TWO! I can’t imagine..
Yay for better sleep! The peanut is so cute. And man, I think I need to have a baby so I can get some homecooked meals made for me.
Your dinner looks delicious!
How did y’all coordinate when friends were bringing meals? Did y’all set up a website or are they all streaming in at once with food?
a friend of mine set up a meal train at Mealtrain.com, but then others have just offered on free nights
He’s is such a beautiful baby! It’s awesome that you’ll have these first days with him blogged about so, as time passes, you’ll always be able to come back and reminisce.
Three cheers for three hours of sleep! Twice! Your little man is looking even cuter by the day…and he started out pretty darn cute too! And you are looking fabulous Kath. Way to bounce right back! You can’t even tell you were even pregnant!
oh he is so cute. love the sleepy 1st pic!
Do you like the Guinness? I’m not a fan…and I’m Irish!
It’s not my favorite
It tastes a little better with concentrated blackberry juice added…but I’m still not a fan! It makes amazing bread though!
your skin looks incredible…lovely glow
I could seriously gush daily… Mazen gets cuter by the minute… and he was totally adorbs from the start! LOVE the pro shot… first confirmation the eyes are blue if I’m not mistaken (hard to tell sometimes on your app — which I love by the way!) So fun to follow your Maze Days… or daze? Either way, pure JOY! You are graciously generous to share your family with us!
So glad that you and Maze were finally able to get some longer stretches of sleep! I remember riding high on excitement for about a week then crashing from exhaustion after my first child was born. Love that you have the wrap to keep the baby close while you are able to work. I hope that breastfeeding is getting easier, keep drinking lots of water and frequent snacks (like the apple cheddar scuffin). Do you find that you have any cravings now that you are nursing? I always wanted chocolate milk and bananas when I nursed!
Milk in general is very appealing actually. Milk begets milk!?
I think newborn photo shoots are such a wonderful idea! I wish they had been more popular when I was born. Can’t wait to see the photos!
AHH, the bugaboo is my favorite! My husband only wanted the BOB but I would have gone for the bugaboo such as cute stroller – I know that sounds lame but it really is. So jealous!
whenever i read “we,” i think, you and matt! but clearly it will be “we” all the time now — crazy! glad you are fueling baby with plenty of guinness. irish blood.
I am amazed that you just had a baby and are still blogging everyday. You rock!! The family picture is too sweet!
I have to tell you this blog inspired me to finally get some chia seeds. My co-op was out for a while, but I finally found them at Whole Foods. Usually I bring empty containers; this one time I spaced and loaded the chia seeds into a plastic bag. At home I transferred them into a glass jar but of course some of the seeds skittered onto the counter and scattered all over the floor. Does this ever happen to you? Probably not.
YES. Spilled chias are the worst!
Ha ha! My husband agrees they’re the worst when on the floor. But he likes them in Anne’s granola bar recipe.
Kath, he is just the cutest! I can’t wait to see the pics of him growing up and learning about healthy eating as you have been teaching all of us.
S/N: I lost another 3.3 pounds for a total of 20.3 since Feb 22. And whole foods is opening next month. Yeah smoked trout!
Great work jeri!
My next weigh-in is Oct 18. my goal is 5.7 pounds to get me to 220.
Every picture of Maze gets cuter and cuter!
Maze is so sweet and you look so happy!
Kath, I didn’t realize you got the bugaboo. That’s the one i’ve always had my eyes on-the chameleon. For some reason i bought you were getting another one. what do you think of it?
I got it as a fabulous hand me down from a mutual friend. I like it OK, but haven’t really used it yet!
I remember feeling like I had to guzzle a gallon of water as SOON as my boys latched on. I would drink, easily, a quart of water each time they nursed. I couldn’t get enough. As a result, I could have fed a small army of babies, I had so much milk!
Can’t wait to see the rest of your shoot!
He’s soooooo amazingly cute
Glad to hear that you and baby have been able to get enough rest!
So excited to see more photos from the photo shoot!
Hi, Kath! This is a completely unrelated side note, but I hope you don’t mind the question. I just got a Polor FT7 and am trying to figure out why the chest strap for the HR monitor won’t register my heart rate. It just keeps saying it is “0.” Am I wearing the chest incorrectly? Being a woman, though I have small chest, I am unsure of where to place the monitor, as I don’t think my HR will register if it isn’t even with my chest. Do I wear it under my boobs, over my boobs, across my boobs? Where do you wear yours? Thanks!!
Under, around your sports bra line
Mazen looks so sweet in the first picture! He has the cutest little lips
That purple looks really nice on you, Kath! I really like your family picture!
http://faithfulsolutions.blogspot.com/
I love the updates! I really like the boba wrap. I have a ring sling but that boba is calling my name. Also tell me more about that gorgeous purple top!
My Bobby is 2 weeks old so I’ve been so excited to be pregnant with you so to speak. He’s our number 6 but every baby is so different and they so can throw you for a loop at any moment!
Kath, I love that you are doing Guinness and scuffins right now. Makes you more relatable! So thrilled for you, M and baby M.
Congratulations Kath! I love how you and Matt are enjoying Maze and seeing your new parent euphoria. He is one beautiful, sweet boy!
I never heard the Guinness tip before but will certainly jump right on that after my little one is born.
That little owl wrap is beyond words it is so adorable!
You’re so lucky for all of the help you’re getting…How Nice!!
