Or LA’s Airport!
Hey friends!
Today was such a lax day. I read on the couch for hours. I must get to work tomorrow!! I have writing to do, presentations for the Summit to plan, Summit stuff to follow up with, calls to make, letters to write!
Afternoon snack.
It’s good. But not blow-your-mind-cookie-dough good. I think the PB chip was better. Still top 5 flavors though!
I didn’t really like the first bite, but by the end I was sold. The chocolate takes a while to develop!
I finally organized the spices
And put them into matching containers. Part of a set from my OpenSky shop [currently not showing up!?]. We were going to hang the cool magnetic rack but since this rack was already built into the door, we decided not to take up more space. I’m definitely one to love matching!
Tonight was a wine night. It just went well with the ambiance.
Study the color.
Swirl.
Taste.
Process.
Enjoy!
Don’t run with Scissors!
I sipped a small glass while cooking..
Matt’s friend Dallas came over for dinner on his last night as a Cville resident
We made local grass-fed beef burgers on the grill with homemade bread buns, heirloom tomatoes, avocado and lots of fresh local veggies: okra + kale chips
I ate 3/4 and gave the rest to Matt. Had no trouble with my veggies though
Fun relaxing day at home. Just a few days till I’m in the Big Apple + the Windy City!

you have so many spices and I’m sure you use them!
I am dying to find the new larabar flavors! I haven’t been able to make it to whole foods yet and haven’t seen them at my regular grocery stores
I’ve been looking all over for good spice jars, where did you find yours? Love them! My spices are currently driving me crazy
They’re from my OpenSky store – but they weren’t showing up last night. I’m trying to fix it.
It’s good to relax now and then! Your dinner looks yummy, love the homemade buns. Yum!
Jenn
Today when I went grocery shopping you inspired me to buy okra! Now I just need to think of how I want to use it!
Do you eat all of the okra? Do you eat the ends and all? I’m still scared!
I do. I didn’t used to, but you can.
Nice buns, hamburger buns that is. Looks like they turned out really good.
I love love love your spice rack! It would be awesome to have a complete set like that.
Wei-Wei
i love your hair like that! it looks so cute pulled back with the headband
Thanks!
great spicy stand… I wish I had one to have them organized
I adore that spice rack…I struggle with organizing my spices so that I can easily see everything!
Relaxing is exactly what Sundays are for.
I JUST bought a big thang o’ kale today! My inspiration? YOU! I cannot wait to make kale chips! Yahooo!!
Hooray for ‘laxin Sundays!
oooh I love those little spice jars = too adorable!
Hey we had practically the same dinner tonight!
Kale + Okra = YUMMMM!!!
Eeep! I’m planning to doa bloggie swap with a friend in America, and didn’t realise there were so many new larabars out there. Which ones would you recommend for someone who can’t access them in her own country?
PB Cup
PB Cookie
Pecan Pie
Coconut
Cashew Cookie
Banana Bread
Cookie Dough
are my favorites. I don’t care for the fruity ones.
I love alphabetizing my spices. It makes me really happy. I don’t have matching jars, though, you are in a class all your own!
I just discovered grilled okra this summer and wow it is amazing. Although mine is definitely more charred than yours- often not on purpose! I have to say, though, it tastes really good when it is BLACKENED. At least I think so
Great home made buns! Turned out good! You are the organizing Queen
Have a great evening!
Sounds like a funday sunday.
After all the hustle and bustle with your recent move, I think a relaxing afternoon reading was well deserved. I’m dying to try those new Lara Bar flavors, I’m just waiting for them to start distributing them more widely to various grocers.
Those homemade buns look like they came in handy for your delicious dinner. I’m always impressed at how you fill up half your plate with veggies.
Mmm, that wine sounds good. I’ll have to check it out!
Random question: do you mind if I ask what kind of watch you have? and whether you like/dislike it? I’m in the market for a new watch, and yours caught my eye…
I have a Kenneth Cole that my dad got me on a cruise ship in …1999?! I love it though
Haha, I love the visual journey of the wine-tasting, especially the swirling action shot!
Never seen or heard of that flavor! Wow.
What book is it that you reading??
Is it weird that I am lusting after your spice rack??? lol
Sounds like you had a nice, relaxing day
I have SO many spices! It’s pretty embaressing…but maybe it just shows the culinary genius in me?! lol
I love the spice organization! It looks very nice!
when i moved from nyc i gave away my spice rack – SO STUPID!!!
(i thought you meant los angeles intl airport at first and got excited that you were coming to town!)
Loving the Cambridge top!
Yay – glad someone recognized it!
Ooh why are you going to NYC?
Haha, if you’re not sure about the Larabar, send any spares my way – I’d gladly eat them
For BlogHer of course
Sometimes you just need a day of doing nothing to recharge your batteries!!
The Larabar looks tasty.
hey kath,
have you ever tried balance bars? they have a really good cookie dough flavor. i also like them because they have about 3x as much protein as larabars for the same # of calories.
also — holy okra! i’m a born and bred new englander who had never tried okra (i just never thought about it), but i’m overseas for the summer and saw it in the farmers market when you did your roasted okra post. i’m a convert!!! delicious!!! i will definitely be eating this overlooked veggie from now on –
I don’t care for the ingredient list on Balance bars at ALL. Full of artificial things.
I didn’t like the PB chip larabar! I thought it tasted rancid. I loved the cookie dough – it is the only lara I have liked so far!
Hey Kath,
What are you going to be doing in my Windy City?
I look forward to your blog everyday! Thanks for all the great food inspiration! Also, I’m in the prerequisites stage of preparing to go for a Master’s in nutrition so I’ve loved reading about your journey!
The SUMMIT of course!
I wish I could’ve tracked down the new larabar flavors. I miss them greatly.
Love the wine tasting pictures! Too cute.
i just have to say i love the way you dress! your outfit in this post is so casual but gorgeous…and i LOVE that green necklace. where did you get it?
Aw thanks
Hi,
This is totally unrelated but I noticed Melissa from Melissa’s Journey is on your blogroll. Do you (or anyone else) know why she stopped blogging?
No idea
Hello~ yummy lara bar I wish I could find them.
When you roast your veggies going back to Sat night do you use the Garlic Gold Oil or the nuggets? I wanted to order some from your Oken Sky but wanted to get the right thing you were using all of the time.
Thank you!
The oil!! The nuggets are really fun too, but the oil is where it’s at
Those spice jars are adorable! I would love for all of mine to match, I’ll have to keep checking your shop to get some!
I still can’t find those bars, but I’m all excited to try the chocolate flavors whenever I can.
sounds like such a wonderful day! kath, i’d love to meet you at blogher!
When you make okra fries, do you roast them? What temp? Do you OIL them first?
Yes. 400*. Yes.
I’m searching everywhere for those Larabars!
Sounds like you had a good day.
Hi Kath – I hope you enjoy some good eats in the Windy City. Have you been to a Trader Joe’s store yet? There are quite a few in and around town. I get my Larabars from them and a ton of fun, healthy snacks. Right now I’m addicted to their Super-Seeded Tortilla Chips with Flax, Chia and Hemp seeds. Have a good time!
I totally agree with you – I didn’t like that larabar at first but then…YUM! Your dinner looks amazing!!
My boss – a Southerner – recently got me hooked on okra. My new favorite way to eat it is to toss it with olive oil, garlic salt, and pepper, then grill it til its almost charred, then squeeze lemon all over. Sometimes I also mix up some greek yog and lemon and dill and dip em in it!
I love larabars – have not tried the cookie dough flavor. I pretty much always get the cherry pie; I guess I should branch out! Also, I really need to try kale chips
Amazing spice rack set-up! I must have matching items too–I actually went to World Market last year to buy empty spice bottles so that everything would coordinate:)
I’ve still not tried Larabars yet. What’s the best flavor for a lara-virgin?
PB Cookie!
Hey, I love the idea of neat matching containers for spices. But it just occurred to me that if I do that, the “dates” will be gone. Do you ever think about the “expiration” (more like “best by”) dates on herb and spice containers? Replace them after a certain point? Just wondering!
Hmmm I actually did not think of that!! But I don’t really look at them anyways… I go by the smell test
