Our trip was supposed to end today. We came home a day early to save money on a Saturday night B&B room cost. But a giftcard + restaurant week + a free night, we decided to extend it one more day
Car snacks – a green apple that I only ate half of and rejected. It was gross.
And this CCNO bar I bought at the market this morning. It was SO good. Like cookie dough and greens in one! At only $1.50, I thought it was a pretty good bar choice made in Cville!
A 5 hour drive later (hopefully the second-to-last time we’ll have to make that in the next few months!) we were back in the Queen City. My emotions about Charlotte had definitely changed. I definitely felt homesick for Charlottesville right away, but we’ve settled back in and it is a nice place to live. It’s just missing some kind of connection for me or something. Hard to believe we’re gone in 10 days!
I was feeling really cruddy when we got home. Zero energy. Kind of sick. I think it was just 5 hours in the car. But I had one of those Amazing Grass packets and a side of SYTYCD and was revived!! I really do appreciate these packets. They don’t taste great but they are good at the same time.
Matt and I put on our fancy clothes and headed uptown in the rain
To Blue!
Blue has been a favorite of ours since we moved here. Caitlin and Kristien got us a thank you gift card when we hosted them back in June. Thank you for dinner guys!!!!!
They dining room was totally full (=restaurant week!!) so we were offered bar seating. Aside from the dark lighting, it was the perfect ambiance. We sat on a velvet couch!
I wasn’t going to drink tonight. I was planning to order sparkling water so I’d have a drink to slosh around. I’ve had a lot of alcohol in the past few days and based on my personal experience, alcohol makes me gain weight quickly. Especially 2 weeks straight of it!
However, the velvet, my romantic husband and the ambiance convinced me to partake regardless
I ordered a glass of the 2006 St Francis Red Blend – a favorite Sonoma winery of ours!
Blue knows bread. These shared between us were fabulous! Warm and salty!
Our strategy tonight was light for me, heavy for him but 100% shared. He got a 3 course restaurant week selection (and because Blue’s entrees are nearing $30, this basically meant free app and dessert!) and I just ordered a simple salad.
We shared Matt’s flatbread to start. I had 2 of the doughy delight pieces with prosciutto and herbs
For entrees, he got the halibut and shared
And I got a [blurry] Mediterranean salad with quail egg and olives
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh the dessert!!! We chose a Local Peach Tart with almond gelato.
It was huge and we didn’t intend to eat it all but somehow it’s missing!
Wonderful romantic evening and I’m thrilled to be home in time to veg on the couch a bit with SYTYCD Part II!!!
Nite!

What a great way to end the day at a nice resturant, the desert looks wonderful!
what was the name of the Inn? Looks fabulous.
I have the same experience with alcohol. instant weight gain if I drink more than 1-2 drinks per week!
South Street Inn
I love your date night courtesy of Caitlin! Enjoy your couch!
I love romantic dinners! Sharing food, and enjoying with a loved one is hands down the best!!!
I can’t keep it straight, maybe I’m mentally challenged, but you’re moving from Charlotte to Charlottesville? That’s confusing!
mmm – that dessert is right up my alley.
That flatbread looks awesome!
That dessert looks so delicious! I can understand why it went missing
Wait a minute, you aren’t around UVA! You’re close to Johnson & Wales? . . . I checked out that school too.
(Or am I totally wrong? I always mix up Charlottesville & Charlotte)
That restaurant just looks REALLY familiar . . . I’m sure I’ve been there.
Sami,
I live in Charlotte, NC.
I’m moving to Charlottesville, VA. Was there house hunting this week
Oh my goodness, dinner looks DELICIOUS! Woah! What a great ending to an even better weekend
Sounds like a perfect little date.
Dessert always seems to go miss with me as well. I don’t know how it happens!
What a wonderful date
That flatbread just looks amazing! Blue looks like a great restaurant
Wei-Wei
Sounds like a nice evening out.
So funny how your mind changes about where “home” is so quickly. Home is where you want to be.
That flat bread looks great. I love date nights and it looks like you had a great one
That restaurant looks awesome. The dessert looks even better!
The dessert looks divine!
I love something baked with ice cream or gelato on top.
A velvet couch? How romantic!
I love the atmosphere of that restaurant!!! And the food looks pretty amazing too.
That flatbread looks awesome–I can never turn down a little bread before dinner.
i’m so glad you got to stay another night! i think the fact that y’all had a strategy is AWESOME!
looks like a swanky place!
That restaurant looks awesome! I love the swanky red velvet couch
Somehow, desserts + me + FH = domination.. all of the time. We always just want “one bite” – Yeah right..
Good for you extending the fun! Looks like a perfect ending to the weekend!
oooh that red velvet couch looks heavenly! like it was made to be lounged on, eating dessert…
It’s not surprising that Charlotte doesn’t feel quite right anymore – you’ve already disassociated from it in your mind, and Charlottesville truly is a wonderful place. Maybe start thinking of Charlotte more as a holiday place?
Mmm I don’t blame you for feeling a bit rough – 5hrs in a car would definetly do that! I hope you feel better now
Five hours in the car is a long time so I’m not surpirsed you felt a bit rubbish afterwards. I’m also not keen on green apples and rarely get them. Looks like you had a good night though!
sounds like a wonderful dinner!
Restaurant Week rocks!
Oh wow, that meal looks SO good! Especially the dessert!
love this post extra today. GREAT photos!
Glad you felt better to go out to a fun restaurant. The halibut looked delicious. And we drink St. Francis also…love their wine:)
Sometimes going out to dinner is kind of like being on vacation…you know, getting all dressed up and such.
or maybe I just don’t get out much! LOL
I agree about the amazing grass, it doesn’t taste good AT ALL! I love the dinner on the velvet couch! That’s fun and different!
Sounds like a lovely meal actually:) Car rides are never fun
xx
Love love love the blog, especially the running posts (makes me want to get up and run) The dessert looks awesome, making me super hungry right now
glad you had fun!

Hi Kath! I just discovered your blog a few days ago and absolutely love it! I was really excited when I saw that you live in Charlotte (I live here too!) but see that you’re moving now.
I hope Charlottesville will be awesome for you though! Anyhoo, I’m sure your life is incredibly hectic right now with the move coming up, but I would love to get a chance to meet you before you go! Shoot me an email if you have time and maybe we can do lunch?!
Talk soon!
Andrea
Hey Andrea,
Maybe when we come back sometime to visit
Sorry we just missed each other! I don’t think I’ll have time before we go
That would be great! Just let me know! Good luck in your new home! I’ll be sure to keep reading and see how things are going for you!
Sounds divine. Future hubby and I need more date nights!! J x
I love St. Francis wine and I love being able to bike there!
