Just Like Old Times

November 28, 2009

[I think] the last time we were all together was at my wedding!! It was great to catch up with my college roomies, Meredith and Alaa’ – and on our old stomping ground too!

We had lunch at Toast, a little lunch shop on Main Street in Davidson. I was in the mood for something refreshing and ended up with a grilled chicken house salad. It exceeded my expectations!

Complete with a square of cornbread with apple butter

We chatted our way through lunch, just like old times :)

After lunch, we went down to the new Cats on Main Davidson store

IMG_9892 (640x427)

I want it all!

IMG_9891 (427x640)

And I can’t WAIT to have a kid so we can put this Bear-mobile in the crib

IMG_9890 (640x427)

After shopping (I got an awesome Davidson mug!!) we went walking around campus.

Matt‘s senior apartment –

And ours!

IMG_9934 (427x640)

Just like old times…

IMG_9937 (640x427)

We peeked in the windows to discover a new floor and MALE inhabitants!

IMG_9924 (640x427)

I wrote them a note :)

IMG_9928 (640x427)

We went to our eating house

IMG_9942 (427x640)

Just like old times…

IMG_9944 (640x427)

IMG_9946 (640x427)

And paid our respects to Matt‘s fraternity…

…just like old times

IMG_9952 (427x640)

We discovered a new garden on campus! Go green!

IMG_9954 (640x427) IMG_9955 (640x427)

And then said farewell. Until we meet again!

IMG_9947 (427x640)

A long drive and a few hours later…. I played a double header. I didn’t realize until I was eating that I had basically the same meal for lunch and dinner!!

My turkey sandwich quickly morphed into a turkey salad with cranberry toast!

IMG_9960 (640x427)

Spinach, carrot, celery, a slice of turkey, stuffing croutons, clementine and avocado. It rocked.

IMG_9971 (640x427)

And a Great Harvest bun with cranberry sauce

Matt and I watched 40 Year Old Virgin tonight. Loved just vegging out. I thought the movie was just OK. I LOVE, LOVE Steve Carell, but I thought the movie got worse with time :(

Have a lovely night!

Awesome night! Stories like this make me happy to look ahead and think of the great friendships yet to be made in 3 1/2 years more of college

3 katey November 28, 2009 at 9:03 pm

That’s so great you keep in touch with your college friends! I am rooming next year with a girl I used to be friends with in middle school!

4 Carolyn November 28, 2009 at 9:04 pm

Wow, really, you didn’t like 40 yr. old virgin? I loved it. The first time. I don’t think it’s one of those movies you can watch over and over. I’m actually watching Knocked Up right now for like the 5th time.

5 KatieMoo November 28, 2009 at 9:05 pm

I’m so glad that you had so much fun!

And I just have to say that I am incredibly jealous of your fleece! I wish that they currently sold the women’s retro-x in that color! Is it windproof/warm?

6 maria November 28, 2009 at 9:07 pm

I can’t wait to go back and visit my alma mater! 😀

7 Kristie Lynn November 28, 2009 at 9:12 pm

Cute pictures with the old roomies. I felt the same way with 40 Year Old Virgin – glad I’m not the only one! :)

9 Jenn (www. j3nn.net ) November 28, 2009 at 9:16 pm

You can never go wrong with great big delicious salads! Yum :)

I loved the 40 year old virgin, but it’s weird, I’m not that crazy about The Office lol.

What a beautiful campus! It looks like you have a lot of fun catching up with your old friends. Great salads too. :)

The campus looks great. I remember loving fall at Davidson. Looks like you had a good holiday. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

14 Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope November 28, 2009 at 9:47 pm

You three ladies are just gorgeous! How fun to meet up and spend a day together in such a familiar place. :)

I just love your salads today Kath! Seriously look so delicious. And that bun with jam is the epitome of delicious simplicity. 😉

15 Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg November 28, 2009 at 9:50 pm

Looks like a fun day with friends!

And as for 40 Year-Old Virgin– the car scene with Leslie Mann makes the whole movie worthwhile, in my humble opinion :-)

16 Erin November 28, 2009 at 9:51 pm

That dinner salad looks delicious. 😀 It’s great to catch up with old friends — I’m lucky to see my college roomies almost every day, but it’s always fun to see someone you haven’t hung out with in awhile.

17 gina g November 28, 2009 at 9:56 pm

It looks like you had a beautiful day Kath! nothing like catching up with old great friends =)

18 Sam (Merit to the Carrot) November 28, 2009 at 9:58 pm

What a great day :) Old friends, fun times. I love how clementines are all over your blog! I see them in the grocery store and think “Kath!”

22 Lindsay November 28, 2009 at 10:30 pm

It’s always so fun to visit college after you’ve graduated!!! Especially when you’re with people you met there.
Lunch + Dinner look great, if it’s good why not have the same meal twice?? :-)

23 Paige (Running Around Normal) November 28, 2009 at 10:44 pm

That’s so great you got to hang out with your college roomies! I don’t even keep in contact with mine unfortunately.
Love the picture of you and MAtt at his fraternity! Classic, haha

24 Hillary - Nutrition Nut on the Run November 28, 2009 at 10:59 pm

Pretty school. Pretty dinner.

25 Cynthia (It All Changes) November 28, 2009 at 11:00 pm

Hanging out on campus with old friends is always a blast. I loved my campus and can’t wait to take Hunni back sometime since we met after school.

26 Emily Eats and Exercises November 29, 2009 at 12:05 am

I’m jealous you got to go back and visit college. My boyfriend and I met while I was in grad school and we’d love to go back and visit our old haunts… Looks like you had lots of fun.

27 Jenn Eats Nutritiously Now November 29, 2009 at 12:23 am

Aww what a fun day! Glad it was just like old times!!!

28 Ameena November 29, 2009 at 12:32 am

What a beautiful campus. Looks like you had a great day!

29 Katy H. @ These Beautiful Feet November 29, 2009 at 12:53 am

Beautiful campus! I think it’s hilarious that they have a Davidson mobile for a baby. Starting them early right? Oh and I agree about 40-year old virgin. It’s just one of those movies, it has funnier moments but all round the movie starts to decline. Glad you had a great day though! :)

30 Delicious Bytes November 29, 2009 at 2:25 am

So funny- we watched 40 Yr Old Virgin, too! Davidson is gorgeous- I gave a performance there in late September, and had breakfast at Toast! :) My friends have a farm on the outskirts of town, and we loved cooking there after getting some great stuff at the Davidson Farmer’s Market behind the restaurant. http://deliciousbytes.blogspot.com/2009/09/chicken-tikka-masala-on-farm-in-nc.html

31 Kath November 29, 2009 at 9:28 am

Oh how fun! I have never been to the Davidson farmer’s market – it wasn’t there when I was :(

32 christie @ honoring health November 29, 2009 at 5:58 am

That mobile is so cute!

Looks like you had a really great day, the campus is really pretty!

33 candice November 29, 2009 at 8:05 am

So nostalgic, hm? “Toast” is such a cute restaurant name! Love the cornbread hunk 😉

34 Adventures of Alice November 29, 2009 at 9:03 am

Aww- those pictures make me miss Davidson! Sounds like there are a lot of new shops on Main St. to check out–I’ll get back there eventually! = )

35 Kath November 29, 2009 at 9:28 am

Have you been back to see the development on the way into town? It’s insane!

36 Jason Sandeman November 29, 2009 at 10:08 am

Kath, I am so stealing your salad! I was thinking the other day about something more… seasonal. Your salad is perfect for a plated app!

Thank you for that!
