Happy President’s Day!!
Busy day!! I forget sometimes what it’s like to be out of the house all day
A good day to visit Jefferson’s home, no?
We ventured up the mountain for the debut of Starr Hill’s new Monticello Ale!
Read about the collaboration here. The beer is supposed to be as true to the beer that Jefferson made as possible – using a mix of barley, wheat and corn as well as the closest hops and recipe to that time period.
What did we think?
Not bad. But I think modern beers are better : )
Karen joined us for the adventure and we all went to lunch afterwards
To Orzo!
Karen and I both ordered the salad special – local chicken with cannellini beans, roasted peppers, feta cheese and grilled zucchini in a fig balsamic.
Delicious
As was Matt’s roasted veggie panini – with orzo!
After lunch we had a Great Harvest meeting, and are just now back home and starting to think about dinner. Sipping tea in the meantime!
I’ve been having a stupid issue with my home wifi – something interfering with the Eye-Fi card I think? Anyways, I wasted an hour troubleshooting it already. Gruf! Hopefully it’s fixed…but I might be without my Eye-fi now
(FYI, Eye-Fi is a memory card that uploads your photos wirelessly. Normally, it’s AWESOME!)
Have a great evening!

I love that photo of you and the hubs and you and your mother in law. You’re glowing!
Just what I was thinking as well….great photo of you and Matt! I envy you all that live in the east …..so much political history as compared to California. Hope to one day see it all for myself:)
I thought the same thing…what a beautiful looking couple you are
Thanks guys! We had great lighting
All the exercise and healthy food you get doesn’t hurt either.
Your salad looks delicious although I would have chosen the panini!
Too bad about the tech problems — I feel your frustration!
How weird the restaurant would serve orzo. Haha
Beer in the afternoon, sounds like my kind of day!
Sigh. Your life is like my vacation : (
I agree with the others, very nice pictures of you all today!
Forgot to say that I want that salad. Think I’ll try to recreate the veggie and protein parts at home tonight. Don’t know what I’ll do about the fig balsamic.
What a great date! And you all look GORGEOUS! Well, I’ll go for “handsome” for Matt, but you and Karen especially…gorgeous and happy ladies
What a fun beer event! Looks like you had a great time – so nice that Karen could join you two!
Great photos of you guys. You look gorgeous Kath!
I’ve never heard of Eye-Fi. That’s so interesting. Must investigate with Brad!
Great pics of a great day! I had a great time when I went to Monticello…must have been about 10 years ago. I would love to go back again.
Pretty pictures!! Chicken and feta on the salad look amazing!
We waisted time last week with email crap…it is so frustrating. Looks like you had a fun day celebrating this holiday! I hope you have a great afternoon. Enjoy your tea!
Love that picture of you and Matt, as well as the one of you and Karen! You all look great!
OMG: that salad is like the salad I’ve been craving all day. The only way it could be improved would be through the addition of fresh figs, I think
It’s been too long since I’ve had orzo, methinks…
Good luck with the Eye-fi.
Karen looks fantastic in that picture! How is she doing?
I second that – how is she?
Thanks for asking. She’s doing well – ups and downs depending on the day. She’s 10 days out from first treatment and seems to be doing better than last week, which was harder.
ORZO!! I adore that stufff! 10 x better than any pasta
Orzo is pasta. Just in rice shape.
I’m watching a special on Thomas Jefferson on the History Channel
So jealous you live so close to Monticello!
You’re lucky to live close to Monticello! I’ve never been to the South (only FL) or really the East Coast (only NY state). I’d love to go see all the historical sights one day. It doesn’t help that I’m addicited to PBS and just watched a couple of 1990s episodes on Jefferson that talked about Monticello … and, now I’m thinking I once saw a PBS special or food network or history show on those guys trying to replicate that old beer … Maybe not, but I do think so!
Orzo is the cutest restaurant name!
Your earrings are so cute.
That sounds really interesting. I LOVE beer and tasting all different kinds. I also love history, so good mix!
Karen looks beautiful! Please tell her we’re asking for her and that I’m keeping her in my prayers. You also look lovely in your black blazer!
That salad sounds great! That’s really cool that you are so close with your mother in law too.
I seriously think I’m going to plan a vacay around there! It looks like there’s so much to do! Would be a great weekend trip for sure
Great pics!
I heart Karen! Kath, you should encourage her to start a blog of her own. She seems to have fabulous tastes in home interiors! Perhaps that could be her focus??
Haha. She does have good taste, but I don’t think she could manage a blog!
I have never heard of Eye-Fi, sounds awesome. Will have to check that out. Your pics today are beautiful!!
Food looks great!
What a fabulous day out
And I agree-great pictures and yummy looking food!!
Well, THAT’S a very groovy thing to be doing on President’s Day!! TJ, beer and great food. Awesome. It’s Family Day in Canada (not having any presidents…just a Queen and some hunky princes…and a soon-to-be new princess!) so I spent the day with my Little Sis. Sadly, there was no beer.
I’ve never had orzo! It looks great though
Happy President’s Day Kath!
Your lunch looks deeelicous. I love grilled veggies – I can’t wait until all the snow around me melts and I get to start grilling again!
Glad to see you had such a great day.
It was great to see Karen out and about!
Black is your color, Kath! You look very sophisticated in it.
I had orzo with my gyro yesterday. YUM! I would have stole Matt’s lunch, hehe.
PS. Jefferson is one of my favorite Presidents!!! I’d love to visit Monticello.
I went to Monticello as a child and would love to go back now when I would really appreciate it. Maybe Karen could do a guest post or some type of Q and A with us readers? Just an idea….
Mmm, that veg panini looks so good! I’m a huge sandwich/wrap/panini kind of gal…they’re just so versatile and easy to make.
That salad sounds exactly like something I would have ordered! The fig balsamic sounds especially delicious.
That’s salad sounds like a perfect combination. Matt’s orzo is looking pretty tasty also.
you look gorgeous!
Hey! I know this is random, but I was on the Whole Foods website today and I just wanted to tell you (and the other followers of this blog) about the online coupons for whole foooods =]

I love checking out the historical sites around where I live. I would love to get back down to Virginia and explore.
Karen looks fantastic! I hope she’s feeling well!
