So glad that the storms are over. I have been terrified of tornados my whole life. Especially since I grew up in a house built in 1833 that moves in wind. I used to have a weather radio so I could be alerted by any severe weather if the power went out! We did ride out Hurricane Fran in that house –which was pretty terrifying – but it made it through. Although a tree missed our house by 1 foot!
Today things are calm and beautiful:

Isn’t it WONDERFUL outside?! So glad to see the sunshine this morning =)
Have a great day, Kath!!
It’s a good thing you don’t live in the Midwest then! That smoothie looks so good, too cold for a Northern Illinois breakfast unfortunately.
The sun is finally peeking out — I hope to be outside today too!
Gosh–I forgot what it was like to be outside all day until mom said it was time for dinner. Funny how back then, eating was not a good reason to have to go back inside. I would ignore the first few calls to dinner.
I can’t believe how different the US is – tornado threats?? It’s crazy – England’s last hurricane was in the 80s, and my house lost 1 tile!
Have a fab Sunday
Glad your storms are over! We have another type of storm going on…snow. Crazy weather!
The storms were horrible here too
Stay safe in case they come back!
I’m glad you weathered the storms well. I heard they got pretty bad down that way.
I have sometimes been compared to Hurricane Fran. My sister always loved the headline “Frances headed inland…thousands flee!” I thought it was pretty funny too! I’m much calmer these days…;-)
I love the cloth/napkins (?) with the dragonflies. Are those from your grandmother’s treasure chest or did you order them somewhere? Thanks and have a great day!
They are from Gram : )
Gee, the only time I remember the house moving was when you were up in your bedroom practicing cartwheels.
Ha!
I just adore having breakfast outside in the beautiful weather!
Enjoy your day!
Oh… I remember those childhood days! So much fun. Molly’s right though, the midwest is still FREEZING cold, hopefully your weather will work its way west… I’m pretty sure that’s not actually how it works, but I’m still hoping
Glad the tree missed your house! Those were some crazy storms – spring must be here. Enjoy some nicer weather today!
Yesss I love that motto!
I try to achieve dirty “summer feet” by the end of the day. Then I know I’ve been outside enough!
sighh I can’t wait for it to get warmer here in Chicago – it’s a windy 30 something degrees outside! brrrrr
Have a great day!:)
Storms freak me out too. We used to have to sit in a cold damp concrete hole in the ground whenever there was potential for a tornado and it was not pleasant. I’m glad you made it through okay!
Looks like a gorgeous day! Have fun! And..I am totally obsessed with that bowl! What a fun shape!!
Kath, you’ve officially inspired me to spend the day outside except for meals
It’s entirely necessary since I too spent the day inside yesterday hiding from the storm, reading in bed (if you haven’t had a chance to read it yet, James Franco’s book is very good!). Playing outside — go!
Beautiful, beautiful colours! But it’s now 11:44pm where I am so I’ll be toddling off to bed. Hopefully I dream of this deliciousness
Glad the weather turned around for you – enjoy the beautiful day playing outdoors! Love that smoothie color.
I think the storm you just had has moved towards me because the weather is crazyyy! Early this morning it was beautiful outside and now its thundering and lightning-ing! (<—Is that even a word?)
Have a great day outside, Kath!
Candy cane lane is my FAVORITE tea! I’ve already gone through a box and a half since christmas.
Love purple food! So pretty and so yummy!
That’s a wonderful goal! I miss those days. I hope to have more days like them this year!!
Don’t ever go to the top of the Empire State Building. It sways about 4 inches back and forth in normal weather and you can feel it.
I have never felt our house sway in the wind. Squeak and moan yes, but sway, no. Remember it’s built with much heavier timbers than modern houses — and HAS BEEN STANDING in good stead since 1833.
The fact that it has stood the test of time IS comforting. But remember I am the Princess and the Pea and can detect small movements that others cannot!
Enjoy the day and the weather.
Is it warm there?! Love the purple – but that’s ingredients for 2?
I really want that granola too…
Playing outside…I love it! I think it’s so easy to forget how to “play” once past a certain age. But I love that tired feeling of just coming in for meals.
Your smoothie looks fabulous!
Tornadoes are my least favorite type of weather. We had a tornado warning one night and my mom woke us up and told us to come downstairs. I was grumpy because my sleep was interrupted, and promptly told her I would rather sleep through the tornado. At least then I wouldn’t worry for my life!
I am also terrified of tornadoes. I have always refused to live in a house without a basement for that very reason! We’ve had three tornado scares since I moved to St. Louis over Labor Day and we have the rest of spring and summer to get through yet!
I’ve noticed the weather here in St. Louis can be pretty intense! I think we’ve had probably 3 or 4 tornado warnings already in the month we’ve lived here! And luckily we do have a basement if we ever need to take cover!
Have fun playin’ outside! The storms passed over us, thank goodness! We live in a teeny, tiny trailer and every gust of wind feels like it’s going to blow our house clear down the street, hehe
Even the purple in your morning mix reminds me of spring. I am glad the storms are over too! Here, it is still really windy though!
I love your plan! Alas, the responsible adult in me knows that I need to spend the day digging out our apartment. Boo, responsibility! Hopefully some outdoor adventures await me later in the week.
I love days spent outside
I like to do my homework on the patio. It makes it less painful!
It’s so nice out today it’s hard to believe yesterday was so stormy!!! I plan on enjoying the day outside too. That breakfast looks DELISH.
glad you weathered the storm. now that i live in LA, i am terrified of earthquakes, since i didn’t grow up around them.
I live in Raleigh, NC & the torandos were very scary yesterday! Luckily my family is fine & my house intact! Others are not so lucky!
Your breakfast looks delicious!
the winds are here now! beautiful breaky, and you looked amazing in that dress last night!
It looks gorgeous in Cville! Unfortunately, it’s blizzarding here in Ontario right now. I swear, every time I think about getting my winter tires taken off, and we get more snow! Enjoy the fresh air!
I wish that was my day today, but we are on day 2 of Spring cleaning so it will be an inside day again for me, but the windows will be definitely be open! Have fun today!
Kath, I’m curious–I’ve been putting chia seeds in my smoothies as well, but the seeds seem to remain intact even after they’re blended up. Do you think it’s that my blender (I have a magic bullet since I don’t have room for anything larger) just isn’t great, or do you have this problem as well?
I do think it’s your blender – the Vita-Mix would blend them up. But I’d still enjoy them in little balls!
I actually put chia seeds in after I blend my smoothies in my vitamix! I love the chewy texture!
Aren’t sunny days after a big storm the best? We have a lot of those in the Midwest…
Love the last sentence, I was just thinking the same thing. I ran past some boys playing in the yard and then nearly an hour later ran back by and they were just getting started on their fort!
I wish I could play outside all day!! Wait… it’s windy and cold here… never mind! lol I want the REAL spring to come!!
Today is so nice out. Everything is getting a chance to dry out!
Since growing up in the midwest, tornados have always been my biggest fear. When I first moved to the east coast, I heard a fire truck siren that sounded JUST like the tornado sirens in IL. Needless to say, I freaked out the first few times I heard them. And now living on the west coast, I have been able to replace that fear with earthquakes…
But I think I’m going to take your lead and try to spend a lot of my day outside too! It’s beautiful out!
I have lived in the Midwest my entire life! I have never been in a very severe tornado so I have always thought they were kind of cool! I think it would be cool to go along on a storm chase with a pro. I wonder if they let people do that? lol
Also–I love that spoon so much!
You’re never too old to play! Have a great day outdoors and enjoy the weather while you can
Isn’t Candy Cane Lane the best? I stocked up over Christmas to have enough for the year.
That smoothie is so beautiful! Have fun outside.
I’m terrified of tornadoes too – I always have nightmares about them! Luckily we don’t get too many of them up here in Ontario.
So pretttyyy:)) It is still FREEZING and dark/windy here, but your pictures cheered me up:) I have been looking at your smoothie oat recipes for aaaages but I still have yet to put oats in my smoothies! I wonder how it would taste with cooked grains?
I’ve done it with cooked – really good!!! Just more work
I love to call exercise “play” instead of exercise– sounds more like a chore than fun
Have a lovely day!
Isn’t Candy Cane Lane the best? I stocked up over Christmas to have enough for the year!
Is it weird that I almost like the excitement of bad weather and tornadoes? I guess it’s because I’m from Mississippi… that tornado in Clinton was only a few miles from my office!
It is a beautiful day outside, but very windy! I do not mind the wind, though.
I love the color of the purple smoothie! That is a great way to brighten your morning!
http://faithfulsolutions.blogspot.com/
Hooray for purple food!!
that is a fabu spoon! sunday funday rocks!
I was thinking of you with all this severe weather. I am glad you guys are okay. You are the only peeps I know in that part of the country. Well, I will use the term “know” loosely since I only read your blog. LOL!
ahhhhh 1 foot?! that is TERRIFYING!!!!!!! I’m so scared of big storms, but i love them, too…
You’re so creative with your smoothies! I would never think to put PB on a berry smoothie…
I have a question about the Flying Squirrel PB, I just got mine in the mail today (YAY!!!) but was wondering whether i should keep it in the fridge or not?
I’d ask them, but I didn’t refrigerate mine
Sounds good! Will make sure to do so. THANKS!!!
Dear Kath,
This looks fantastic! I have some of the Bright Eyed and Bushy Tail PB Too. I keep it in the fridge and it is in a very solidified state. How should i go about melting it?
Just let it sit at room temp for a while. Don’t refrig it!
