Igloo

October 21, 2009

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! One might expect to be frigid outdoors this time of year, but not under a layer of two quilts! When I went up to bed last night around 11 I couldn’t fall asleep because parts of me were so cold. Matt and I were like two peas in a pod but my outer shell was still iced. So I sleepily retrieved the down comforter from the hall closet and was much happier till morning.

I am now all packaged up in my organic cotton robe that Quaker sent me last year :)

Mmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

Today’s oat blend:

  • 1/3 cup oats, milk, water, pinch salt
  • 1 medium banana (from the airport!)
  • 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp raisins
  • Drizzled plum jam
  • Costco PB

IMG_6385 (640x427)

To make the jam drizzly, I put it in a tiny bowl and microwaved it for 10 seconds.

Coffee!!!

Highlander Grog and Spring Blend Decaf mixed

I am simultaneously working on about 3 computer projects (NERD KERF Episode 4 is uploading soon) and in a little bit I’m walking to the grocery store for green things and then exercising. Thankfully this week isn’t super pressed with school work so I have time to space my list out.

Happy Monday Humpday!

It’s been shockingly cold where I live too. The only thing that can get me out of bed in the mornings is the thought of hot oats and a hot shower!

It is so hard to get the temp right this time of year! Last week in Boston I was freezing in my apartment, this week I am nearly sweating!

The weather has been absolutely bizarre. I either wake up freezing or sweating… what happened to fall? :(

Here it’s finally starting to get colder but not too much. I don’t think we could handle the kind of cold you do. Oh well, different countries. :p
That oatmeal looks fabulous.

I’m really cold, too. The highs and lows are so extreme here right now, 30′s overnight and almost 80 in the day. Crazy!

Hopfully your oats and coffee warmed you up! We are actually supposed to have our first nice day here in awhile! It’s been in the low 40s high 30s at night!

Oh my gosh – we’ve had a warmup here the past week – but I was just like you last week! A little ice pick in bed! My husband and I had to spoon all night to keep warm!

I hate when my feet are freezing in bed. I can’t sleep with socks but I don’t like cold feet. Such a perdicament. I usually pile an extra blanket on them (or a fluffy dog will lay on them :-) )

Glad you have a relaxing week after your super busy trip.

Kath,
I rarely comment, but absolutely love your blog. I get a lot of meal ideas from you!

A question though–I really want a french press, but I’ve read that because french press coffee doesn’t use a filter, some of the chemical compounds that remain in the coffee can raise LDL cholesterol levels. Have you heard of this? thoughts?

48 Chelsea (Chelsea's Chew and Run Fun) October 21, 2009 at 1:07 pm

Kath, your life looks like a gourmet cookbook. Your food could seriously walk the runways of Milan. Superfood Supermodels! I’d much rather see that than all of the waifs in impossibly expensive clothing, ha.

Reply

49 Kath October 21, 2009 at 2:19 pm

Caroline,

My personal opinion is that people without high LDL cholesterol need not worry about this. I really can’t imagine that it has that large of an impact.
