Heaven on earth, this little house is. It was one of those days where I woke up smiling
And cool – because we turned the AC on last night!
While I attacked the task of unpacking my swag bags (x2 conferences!!), Matt made us some oatmeal.
Long time, no see!!
We have no bananas or milk, but I did manage to convince my dad to give us some of his fruit
The Mix
- 1/3 cup oats, 2/3 cup water
- Chia seeds
- Blueberries, stirred in at end
- Half a peach, stirred in at end
- Crunchy Buckwheat Granola (still pretty good after 2 weeks!)
- TJ’s Sunflower Butter
I don’t like iced coffee. But I love cooled coffee!! And black wasn’t too bad.
Our basil is still thriving! I see pesto in the future
Can I just say that I am OBSESSED with my home computer? After 12 days blogging from a netbook, I cannot believe how unbelievably fast and wonderful my desktop is!!
Blogging MACHINE!!!
Today is all about LAUNDRY (which I love doing when I have a whole day to do it), unpacking, cleaning and sorting. I couldn’t think of a better way to relax

Ahhh, I LOVE the smell of laundry! It just can’t be beat.
Sounds like you’ve had a great welcome home morning!
I love the smell of laundry too! It is so comforting.
Ah who doesn’t love the smell of laundry??
Me! Because then it means I have a ton of work to do. =P
Oh, gosh. I haaaaate using netbooks. The keyboard and screen are just way too tiny, and sitting hunched on a tiny notebook isn’t too good for the fingers. Back. Or eyes.
Welcome home!!

Haha, I’m glad I’m not the only one who finds doing laundry relaxing and therapeutic!
Totally with you on the laundry smell – it’s amazing. I think they’ve actually got it bottled up as a fragrance to wear. : )
There is nothing like a clean house with all the laundry done
Such a great feeling. Enjoy your day!
Cute bowls!
Notebooks can definitely strain the eyes and hands! I look forward to the day I can buy a big iMAC. That will seem like such a luxury!!
I noticed this morning that my body soap smelled like dryer sheets. Not sure if that’s good or bad. At least I’ll smell fresh!!
I love coming home as much as I love going away. Both are good! Welcome home!
Yoru breakfast puts me in mind of an icecream sundae – I’ll take that over pesto anyday
I love coming home from a trip and doing laundry all day — I find it very relaxing!
Will you share with us what was in the swag bags?
I can’t even remember and didn’t get a whole one for myself – but I’m SURE someone took a photo of theirs – we gotta find one!
Our laundry vent is right outside my window, so on nights when it’s cool enough to keep them open, and my Mom gets up and does laundry, I can wake up to the fresh scent of clean clothes.
I really like the idea of sizing the Windows Live Writer window so that it fits with the Photo Gallery as well… never thought of that, thanks for the idea.
I thought I was the only one who actually loved spending a day doing laundry!! Enjoy
Also, I love those bowls!
In college, my freshman dorm room was right next to the laundry room…nothing quite like weekend afternoons filled with the lovely smell of six washing machines and dryers! It was one of my favorite things about that dorm room…
ahhh… lazy laundry days rule!
Enjoy
Haha I kinda like laundry too. I love when you put the clothes in your closet and everything just smells so good.
Your basil is so lovely! Mine has dried out and gone to seed – booo!
hurray for being home…there’s really no better feeling in the world
I love the smell of laundry too, but I can’t say that I’ve ever thought of it as relaxing! I do love AFTER the laundry is done and everything is organized, that’s relaxing to me!
You’re so funny that unpacking and organizing relaxes you. That is always the worst part for me after coming home from a trip. Although I do admit I love the feeling when its done.
Your blogging setup looks awesome. I love the dual screen option.
going home is so nice! do you like the netbook? i’ve been in the market for a computer that’s easy to travel with for awhile. what’s your take on it? worth it?
LOVE it – but only for short trips!
Mmmm homemade pesto!! One of the best things in the whole world!
I heart laundry smells too! My laundry from the weekend is still begging to be done though… I need to catch up on all these HLS posts first! Looks like you had an awesome time!
Oooh, I love laundry smell
It is nice when you don’t feel rushed to get it done!
I hate having a full laundry basket. Clean laundry is very calming for me too!
Good luck with your unpacking – I’m sure you will have it done in no time.
Glad you are back home Kath. I attacked a major amount of laundry myself yesterday. Good luck with yours! Enjoy your day at home!
I love the smell of fresh laundry, but I really don’t like doing it
Enjoy your time at home
Your basil plant is looking great Kath! I have a HUGE laundry basket full of clothes that I would love to just be miraculously done!!
I love when I throw a load in the dryer and leave to run an errand… come back, and the whole house smells like clean laundry. Love that.
Kudos to you for actually enjoying the cumbersome task of laundry, it’s definitely on my list of “chores I loathe.” It is nice to have it done, though!
Your oatmeal looks heavenly, as per usual. Don’t you just love how melty sunflower seed butter gets?
Also, how do you keep your basil plant thriving? Mine is seriously ill. Do they require direct sunlight? I currently have it in a kitchen window that gets only indirect light.
Leave it alone for 8 days!?
Seriously, I have a black thumb. Matt is tending to it and I don’t even know what he’s doing to it. Perhaps feeding it bread?
My dad made some EXCELLENT pesto with walnuts in place of pinenuts last week, I highly recommend it if you are a fan of walnuts (and it’s a bit more economical, pinenuts are pricey!).
I always use walnuts!!!
I hate doing laundry. I can’t imagine loving it, though the smell is nice. My hubby does it – yes, I’m lucky.
i love the smell of fresh laundry! makes me want to take a nap.
I love laundry smells too! Especially the steam that comes out on the side of the house that smells like Snuggle. Mmm!!!
I stopped drinking coffee a while ago, but when I was still drinking it I always wanted it cool. People thought this was so weird, but it was definitely the way I preferred it. Glad I’m not alone!
Hey Kath! I’m a LONGTIME reader of your blog and I commented maybe on only once! During the time when I wasn’t reading your blog, I was in the hospital recovering from anorexia. I was down to 50 pounds, unable to walk, or speak, recognize my family. I was taken in by an ambulance. It’s been 7 months since I have been FULLY recovered and almost a year since I was in the hospital. I am at a very healthy weight and Im living life for the first time! isThe eating disorder thoughts are gone and I’m at peace.
I just wanted to let you know that your blog and you, are amazing examples of healthy living. You’re a wonderful inspirtation to many people. By the way, your photos are beautiful too!
And I can’t wait to attend the Healthy Living Summit next year!

Thanks so much Lindsey. SO glad to hear you’re feeling great again. All the best!
Oops I signed my name twice…haha
Lindsey, Thank you for sharing–nice to learn you are healthy and now living life and at peace
Kath really does seem to be an inspiration to many. Wishing you all the best life has to offer!
Not only do I love the smell of fresh laundry, but I love DOING laundry. It is the only household chore that I really enjoy. I have always thought that I would like to work in a laundromat.
Yeah. I’m strange.
Doing laundry is so much fun, I love when my closet is full of fresh clothes!
Your bowls are cute!
Hi, Kath. Welcome home. Thanks for the great pics and updates. Sorry to hear about your grandfather.
I was wondering if there’s a reason you prefer rolled oats vs. steel cut. It looks like your morning oatmeal fixes are primarily rolled. I’m hooked on steel cut and just wondered why (or if) you have a preference.
Thanks.
I prefer creamy to chewy and think rolled oats give more plump and volume. I dont’ dislike steel cut, but I just like rolled better.
Sorry to hear about your grandfather kath, never easy, I bet her lived an amazingly full life though : ) I love the smell of laundry too, definetly very picky when it comes to my laundry soap hah!
I really wish I could grow basil at home but we have no sunlight to put it in. It would be amazing to use really fresh stuff for pesto! Guess I will have to wait until I move to the suburbs and can have an entire garden full of good fresh herbs and veggies!
I made pesto last night because I have an overwhelming supply of basil! I ate it with the little box of Eden Organic Veggie Pasta from the HLS swag bag. Pretty tasty!
you don’t like iced coffee?!?! All this time I thought you did
That basil looks terrific!
Wow Kath, that basil is doing well. It looks like it is about to flower, make sure you trim it before it does!
i do love the smell of laundry, and folding it, but for some reason i HATE putting it away!
I love doing laundry too! unless i’m rushed
The granola looks perfect on top. It looks like such a good bowl of comforting oats.
Ooh girl… I love your oatmeals! You inspire me.
You are a much better woman than I am. I absolutely hate laundry. Maybe if I had my own washer and dryer at home I’d enjoy it more, but laundromats around here really suck the happiness out everything. =/
