House Work Before Work

April 13, 2010

We have a HOUSE SHOWING today!!!

Crossing my fingers it’s someone who came to the open house and is returning for a final visit before making an offer. First-time home buyers have 2.5 weeks to go for their tax credit, so it’s now or never!

I got up at 5:26 and made the house re-sparkle

Folded laundry. Vacuumed. Cleaned 3 bathrooms (which just needed a light touch). Made breakfast. Cleaned up the kitchen. Straightened all living areas.

And still managed to blog and enjoy a House Hunters with my breakfast! (One set in Raleigh, NC too!! They never come to NC!)

In an effort to dirty less dishes, I made a SIAB with hot tea today!

The Vita-Mix

  • 1 cup Trader Joe’s frozen berries
  • 1 banana (small-medium)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 scoop Vega Vanilla Chai
  • 2 tbsp raw oatmeal
  • Toppings: Nature’s Path Granola + melted/hardened coconut butter (I’m running low!)

IMG_0413 (640x427)

Golden Moon Teas sent me this lovely sample basket of many of their flavors!

IMG_0400 (640x427)

I was ooohing and ahhhing over the flavor choices! Vanilla Jasmine. Coconut Pouchong. Caramel Chai. Vanilla Mint. Moroccan Mint. Sugar Carmel Oolong. I’m excited to try them all!!

IMG_0403 (640x427)

Today I doubled up for extra caffeine – hope I don’t get a coffee headache :( Vanilla Mint + Irish Breakfast. LOVED the vanilla mixed with mint. One of my favorite flavor combos!

IMG_0405 (640x427)

I just take a tbsp of milk in my tea –

Filling!

Off to do some real work!!

Also, I don’t know if you’ve ever done this, but try adding a few almonds to the smoothie- in the vitamix. Adds amazing flavor!

Those tea flavors sounds incredible! I’m excited to hear how they taste.

I stopped drinking coffee sort of accidentally last week after being an every day and sometimes two-a-day coffee drinker and managed to get away without any headaches. Good luck!!

I hope everything goes well with the house with all of the effort you’ve been putting into it!

What kind of milk do you use for your SIAB? (At least this one) It seems like plain milk and water would be a little too un-sweet, even with the banana, but I could be wrong – I’m just wondering if the water dilutes it too much or if it’s still tasty~

Reply

20 Kath April 13, 2010 at 4:10 pm

Regular organic cow’s. It was plenty sweet – esp. with the Vega.

Sending good luck vibes your way! All it takes is that one right buyer. House selling is stressful and moving just adds even more stress to that.

I watched that House Hunters too, they had some really nice options.

Kath – thanks to you, I am now addicted to green smoothies!! Which is a good thing. I experimented the other day because I had run out of spinach (and I had just been baking chocolate beetroot cake) by making a beetroot SIAB – I just blended beetroot with a some different fruit and it was delish! If you haven’t already, you should definitely give it a try. Its not like the spinach ones where you can’t taste the spinach, you can taste the beetroot (well, I suppose that depends on how much you use) but provided you like beetroot, its really good.

Reply

27 Kath April 13, 2010 at 4:11 pm

I’m not the biggest fan of beets…

Reply

28 Jo April 15, 2010 at 10:43 am

fair enough – I used to hate beetroot and love it now.

You would like chocolate beetroot cake though – I made one and took it to work and not one single one of my colleagues guessed the “secret ingredient” – including one guy who claims he hates beetroot so much it makes him physically vomit (Drama queen? never!!) . Best excuse in the book – eat a chocolate cake just so you can eat beetroot!

Best of luck omitting coffee from your morning routine. I had a seriously hard time quitting, and ended up falling off of the no-java wagon. I made my first smoothie in a bowl recently, and it was divine. The only thing missing was the coconut butter, which I’m anxious to try in it! Best of luck with the showings.

I hate cleaning. Two summers ago the owner was selling the condo that we were renting and we had to show the place which really stunk because we weren’t getting anything out of it but had to make it sparkly clean as well.

I hope that they LOVE it and give you a great offer !

Hey Kath,

I looked at your Open Sky shop for the Artisana Coconut Butter, and noticed it was described as “low in fat,” with 114 cals and 10g of fat per 2 tbsp serving. I recently purchased the coconut butter and it has 186 cals and 18g of fat per serving. Are there two different varieties / variations of this product? Please let me know.

Thanks, and i LOVE your blog!!!

Greetings from Canada!

I just had my very first bowl of overnight oats and woke up earlier than usual, thanks to your influence! Blueberries, almond milk, a pinch of sugar and some ground flax, I feel wonderful! As a new comer to your blog, I had a suggestion to avoid much confusion. Do you ALWAYS do overnight or are some of them cooked? I felt like if you put the overnight recipe right at the beginning of your ‘Tribute to Oatmeal’, people would not be as confused over whether to cook them or not (as some other comments say this also). I actually had to google whether or not you were cooking them before finding the recipe!

Just a little thing to help newcomers out, otherwise am loving your blog.

Thanks Kath.

73 Kath April 13, 2010 at 4:15 pm

Nooooooooo I almost always COOK THEM FROM SCRATCH!

The only time I do overnight oats is if I write “Today I had overnight oats.”

Otherwise I’m making whipped banana oatmeal

Good luck with the house showing! I have so many childhood memories about having our house on the market, as we moved several times before I was 12. After the showing, my mom and I would inspect the carpet in order to see if it had been walked on. If they actually walked around rooms, our theory was that they were more interested in the house.
