We have arrived in Oak Ridge, Tennessee! We’re staying with Matt’s grandmother here and commuting to Maryville (which I have been corrected is not pronounced Mary Ville but ‘Murville’
) for Matt’s cousin on his dad’s side’s wedding.. Elizabeth and Trevor!
On our very long 7 hour ride we snacked on plums and clusters. And we each took naps!
Our drive took us straight to Hot Bagel Co, which is owned by Karen’s sister, Aunt Donna.
Matt and I shared a Lox on Rye bagel sandwich and an amazing Mediterranean panini.
We traveled to Gran Bett’s where we were promptly served delicious pumpkin roll and walnut and blueberry coffee cake!
Gran Bett does not remember her internet password so I’m phone blogging until I am reconnected tomorrow. I’ll be sure to share a wedding glimpse tonight!
xoxo

What a great day for a wedding, be sure and share the cake with us. This morning it was chilly in Springfield Missouri, so I added pumpkin, cinnamon and Roasted pepitas to my old fashioned oat………….it was like eating pumpkin pie but better. I also baked some sweet potato vegan muffins. Found the recipe on Hungry Girk site. If you have not tried them you must.
kath your pictures are always so beautiful… even of a strip mall!! now that is a real photographer

Pumpkin roll? Blueberry coffee cake. Does Matt’s gram want another visitor? ; )
I didn’t realize that baking was in the family! Would love to stop over for some of that coffee cake… It’s just not the same unless someone’s grandmother has made it!
Mmm. Bagels. Welcome to Tennessee!
Did not realize you were coming to Oak Ridge and Maryville – I live in Knoxville. In fact, I ate at the Hot Bagel company this morning after doing a 5K. What a small world. Have a fantastic time!
Oh wow!! Just missed you!
Read your blog every day..totally never comment but I live in Knoxville! def going to check out Hot Bagel when I’m over in Oak Ridge next time..they have a lavender festival every June that we go to. Hub’s in the Air Force so we’ve lived all over..but there’s no place like home..where’s my red slippers?
enjoy your time here in TN
Pumpkin roll and walnut and blueberry coffee cake…mmmm sounds delish!
1. Just you talking about bagels makes me want to go get a veggie bagel sandwich from Beagle Bagel!
2. My grandparents lived in Oak Ridge when it was first created. He helped on the Manhattan project during WWII.
3. I living in Oak Ridge for a summer when my dad worked at the physics “institute” there. I have VERY fond memories…except for the school shots I got at the health department. My best memory is the daily trip to the pool followed by Crunch-n-Munch while watching “Jaz” (that cartoon that was the rock star with pink hair?!). LOVE the 80′s!
4. Have fun at the wedding!
My husband has been down to the lab in Oak Ridge for work before. I’ve only driven through the very northeastern corner of TN on our drive from NJ down to GA a couple years ago. The mountains are so pretty!
Sounds like a nice drive down! Have a great time at the wedding and visiting with family!:)
Again Kaci and I are really sorry that we missed meeting up with you guys! We cannot wait to see pictures from the wedding! Yep, Maryville is one of those words that has to be pronounced with a Southern accent. =p Only if it wouldn’t put a kink in y’alls plans, we would love to say a quick “hello” tomorrow before you leave town, but if that doesn’t work, then definitely no biggie. Have fun tonight!
It might. Not sure of AM plans yet
Ha! I grew up in Oak Ridge, TN & went to high school in Knoxville!! What a small world………My parents get bagels & challah from Hot Bagel all the time
Enjoy your time in east TN.
If you need any help with figuring out the password.. I can help. Stayed with a family member recently and had to figure this out for myself! (On a windows machine)
Sure! Anything I can try to look it up?
This explains it pretty well.. hope it works out!!

Never got to try it – I think she had Windows XP – but thank you!
Pumpkin roll! That is one of my favorite fall/pumpkin treats
My aunt makes a delicious homemade one.
Glad you guys made it there safe! Love the pictures, have a great time at the wedding!
Sorry…don’t care for the “effects” added to your photos. I think your gorgeous photos by themselves are stunning and prefer seeing them in the original format.
I think it’s because she said she’s blogging from her phone Greg and not a computer.
Exactly. Can’t get to a computer with internet..
OK. Cool.
That last pic looks like a HUGE yodel…even though it’s probably not…is it the pumpkin roll?
I think the “vil/vul” is an East Tennessee thing–so many places where the “wille” is generally pronounced “vul”–Knoxvul, Greenvul, Crossvul. . . . etc.:-) At least it’s not “Vol,” LOL. (I went to UT.)
I had to drive from Roanoke to Johnson City and back today–one of the prettiest stretches of highway there is!
Hey Kath! I am from the Knoxville area, and we have always said Mary Ville. My husband is from Sevierville, and it is pronounced Sevier Ville.
I hope you enjoy East TN as much as we do. While you are in Mary Ville
or Knoxville you MUST eat at The Tomato Head. It will not disappoint- promise!
Your pumpkin roll looks SO YUM-O! I’ve been craving pumpkin so much lately! Have fun at the wedding.
There’s nothing better than a good bagel! And that one looks amazing.
I bet there’s nothing better than being greeted with rolls and cakes after a long drive!
I’ve lived in East Tennessee all my life and have been following your blog for about a year and half, so this post definitely makes me happy! I hope you enjoyed your trip here, and believe me, if I’m ever in C-ville, I will definitely be checking out the bakery!
Mmm, bagels! Sounds like you had a fun time!
ps. Doesn’t Retro Camera rawk?!
I like the frames around the pics. — nice added touch!
