If you want a homey feel and fantastic food, The Old Hotel is where to go. The owners are so very nice. And we slept SO well in our piles of comforters and flannel sheets. It’s only too bad that we had to be up early to get on the road!
But before we left, a gourmet breakfast!
Strong locally roasted coffee sure beats hotel pots!
The bread basket with apple butter and jam.
Notice that we both dove for the butter first! Matt has taught me how much butter enhances bread. Just a thin layer on mine – he slathers it on!
While waiting for our breakfast to arrive I taught Matt to do the smiling frown
The ultimate MOM face
I think he’s got it?
To eat we turned down smoked salmon eggs benedict and crepes for what we really wanted: oatmeal and yogurt. But fancified!
The oatmeal was served with hot buttery sweet apples and upon our request – a bowl of peanut butter!!
The yogurt – perfectly plain – had maple, blackberries and a croissant
We took a big bite out of this bad boy but I was more into the yogurt – for real.
Matt and I shared both dishes because we couldn’t decide which was better. I am now stuffed with my two favorite breakfasts and dressed for some snowshoeing! We’re off to Bozeman for the rest of the weekend. Can’t wait to return!

Plain yogurt yum!
I love B&B’s! David and I went to one in North Conway that overlooked Mt. Washington in the middle of winter. The breakfast was the best.
is that why bread & butter taste so good together? the butter enhances the bread? interesting!
The breakfast spread looks delicious. I love it when a place goes the extra mile and answers individual requests. I always ask for a little bowl of peanut butter when we go to brunch and they never fail me.
Bahaha! My little boy does the smile frown…He calls it the “old man” smile.
That breakfast looks delicious – and love B&Bs!! Such amazing experiences in them.
Matt’s smiling frown is hilarious! I think I make that face when the baby is squealing in public
oh man that face over a mug gave me shivers!
Those apples look like they would be a fantastic addition to oatmeal. Like grilled bananas!
your “mom” face is absaloutely perfect! Made my morning …
love,
cathy b. @ brightbakes
I would absolutely devour that pb. Just look at those chunks!
Title = KERF in “Greek”
we are going to be near a Great Harvest this weekend, in Austin, TX. Any reccommendations on what I should buy to bring home? I have never been to a GH but have wanted too for so long! I am super excited to finally be in close proximity to one.
Ask for a slice and taste them all! I love Dakota, High Five Fiber and Flax Oat Bran
B7B’s are the best…they beat a hotel or motel any day!
Congrats Kath and Matt!!! It sounds like you had an incredible time! PS, I giggled out loud at the smiling frown and MOM face. Too cute!
I wonder if I ever make the “MOM face”.
Hahaha I love your smiling frown! Our old principal at my middle school used to do that, so whenever I see someone with a smiling frown, I think of her. I love that cool mug! Looks like a wonderful breakfast.
oh what a great breakfast!
“The smiling frown” you’re so fun, you crack me up! : )
I make that face? Since when? Yuck.
No you don’t – moms who wear mom jeans do!
I’m a mom and I can’t make the face but Matt looks just like my husband when he does it! We (my girls and I) always try to imitate that look. Glad to know it’s called the smiling frown!
Looks like a fantastic breakfast! So much protein in there it’s ridic. Have a good day!
I love B&Bs! Great owners make the experience so much better. I was at a B&B in Edinburgh, Scotland and the owners were two of the nicest people I have ever met. They made me a special breakfast every morning because I am a vegetarian and they told me to call them if I needed anything when I was in London and they would drive down and help me. How sweet is that!?
Sometimes, a little oatmeal and yogurt can seem to solve the problems of the world. And the photo of the flowers is beautiful.
your ultimate MOM face is great!!
My mom does that face too! Is that a universal mom face? That breakfast looks awesome. Have fun snowshoeing!
Looks like a great breakfast – Happy Belated Birthday to Matt!
Enjoy snowshoeing – I have never done that before!
Bahahha smiley frown! I think you need another 30 years of practice, Kath. You have not a wrinkle of your face!
O.k.the mom smile was killin’ me. I laughed out loud.
What a fantastic breakfast spread! It looks like the breakfasts that the hotels in Europe serve. Yum!
I could get into a breakfast like that! Have fun in Bozeman.

Those apples look delicious!!! Cinnamon Apples are one of my favorite foods and I dont’ eat them nearly enough!
Mmmmmmm looks delicious!!!
Haha… I love the faces!!!
The frown is so true. My mom made that face at me all the time growing up. Your’s is the best but Matt’s is the funnies. I actually laughed out loud when I saw that picture.
Go to the PICKLE BARREL in Bozeman….SOOOOO GOOOOOOD
What an awesome looking breakfast!!! Have fun snow shoeing, I have always wanted to try that! I love your smiling-frown/mom face… my mom makes that a lot
That place looks so great and cozy
I really am so much more of an oats/comfort breakfast person than eggs, although they’re nice sometimes, too. Sooo excited to hear about Bozeman, enjoy!
oh that is a mom face for sure. happy birthday to matt – looks like a wonderful time. congrats on “graduating!”
Haha, mom face, you guys crack me up! That breakfast looks delish!
Gosh, you guys are hilarious with the MOM face. We do a variation called the pug face — Matt’s almost doing it, but has too much smile in the eyes….!
Haha! My mother has perfected the smile frown. It’s her go-to face when we are mid-conversation and her mind has wandered. It’s usually followed by, “Welllll…”
I love Bed and Breakfasts. My family always trys to stay at them when we are travelling. They have the BEST breakfasts.
What a lovely breakfast! I love everything about it, especially the homemade appeal. It’s hard to find service and quality like that in the corporate world of lodging.
That oatmeal looks good! I wonder how they made it…it doesn’t look creamy, but in a good way. If that makes sense?
It tasted like it was made the old fashioned water boiling way to me
Now that looks like a delicious breakfast… mmm apple butter! Flying Biscuit here in Charlotte has some of the best…
There is a lady at our church who does the “frown smile”. It freaks my teenage kids out. So once in a while hubby and I do it just to creep them out! Mean, huh?
Your breakfast looks scrumptious! Love your guys cute faces!!
that “mom face” will serve you well one day im sure. you have it down pat
Okay, I totally cracked up at the MOM face – that is sooo true!!

Haha love the faces! And wow those apples look INCREDIBLE!
Ahhhh hahahahaha…love the mom face!! Please call me out on it if I ever start to smile like that
so happy for you both!! Can’t wait to go on a road trip to see you guys and the bakery!!!!! Enjoy the rest of your time in Montana and happy birthday to Matt!!!
Looks like a very special way to celebrate both a birthday and graduation. Congrats to you both and happy birthday to Matt!
Mmm, I love when I can find me some decent oatmeal at a hotel– they always seem to make it the best!
wow I’m officially hungry! That breakfast looks amazing! I especially want those apples.
MOM face- hilarious!
That place looks so cute and homey. (I would have gone for the oatmeal option too.)
Congrats on your “graduation” and safe travels back!
Sounds like a perfect way to start the day! I never think to order peanut butter with my oats. I need to remember that! Enjoy your adventure today!
Snowshoeing?! Awesome! Have fun
Happy graduation!!!! Snowshoeing is something I’ve always wanted to do
Have a great time!
Those cooked apples look like an amazing oatmeal topping! I went to a Great Harvest near my parents today and thought of you! We bought three loaves of bread:-)
Yay!! What’d you get?!
That is a great frown/smile! My son can do it perfectly..
Oatmeal with Apples and Peanut butter has to be one of the best ways ever to start your day.
LOL – your upsidedown smile is on key! Totally a mom face, bahah
Wow I can’t believe you didn’t go for the benedict! Crazy.
Love the faces! I give the smiling frown to my husband on a daily basis, and reserve it for my son when he is throwing a temper tantrum in public!
That does look like a very comfy place. And that oatmeal- dannng, it’s perfect!
You look so much like your mom in those photos! So fun. Bozeman is fantastic-check out Moose Mart if you’re in need of groceries.
Your overnight stay looks awesome! I need that in my life right now.
Looks fantastic! I am love with breakfast food and could pretty much eat it all day, everyday. Yum!
ahaha… those faces are a crack up! =]
I’ve heard bozeman is awesome! That breakfast looks amazing! Do you like the west?
Cracking up at the smiling frown! hahah I am trying to do it right now.
That breakfast looks delicious. I’m with Matt, real butter really does enhance bread.
Have you ever seen the ventriloquist comedian Jeff Dunham? Matt’s mom smile looks like the face of his old man dummy, Walter
That breakfast does look delicious… it’s been so long since I’ve had a croissant!
Jessica
HAHAHAHAHAH love the mom face. Too good. Also reminds me of like a conniving businessman or something…
That’s the sign of a good B&B – being able to cater to your tastes in a quality way
Also, that expression is HILARIOUS! Don’t think my mum ever did it, though…
Haha! Mom face is super cute!
I love b+b’s especially the breakfast part, yum.
The smiling frown? Hilarious! It IS the perfect mom face and honestly – Matt still needs some work… But, by the looks of things you’re the master, so he’s got the perfect teacher!
That is the best looking oatmeal ever!
You totally win at the mom face
Wow a bowl of peanut butter is dangerous!
I have wanted to go snowshoeing my whole life!!
