Home Sweet Potato Home

December 10, 2008

Today is the 2 year anniversary of us buying our house!!!!! So to celebrate, I had sweet potato fries :) I was in the mood for a random collection of lunch items today.

And grapefruit - my favorite winter fruit!!! LOVE it – more than oranges!

It doesn’t look like the most balanced meal but all the food groups are there – count ‘em! (Well, I am missing healthy fats that a little ground flax would have fixed)

good luck on your exam! :)

you did just eat two of my favorite foods for lunch – roasted sweet potatoes are a workday staple for me (i roast them with rosemary and sea salt, then reheat them in the microwave) and grapefruit cut like an orange is one of my tricks!!

Awww that’s so nice—2 years in your house! Congratulations! My 3 year anniversary of when I bought my condo was in September :)

Do you count your yogurt as both a protein/lean meat and a dairy? Even with the greek yogurt’s higher protein count the RD I visited still counts it as only a milk. Just curious.

Yum. Sweet potato fries are a long time favorite of mine, but I eat them with a homemade enzyme-rich chipotle & cilantro mayo. Ketchup (in any form) has never turned me on!

Cheers,

Congrats on the house – that’s great.

Aw, Happy Anniversary!

Sweet potato fries are awesome. It’s a shame you can’t get them at restaurants, too. I eat grapefruit all the time during the winter, but I never peel it like an orange. It’s easier to eat that way, so I’m going to next time.

Sweet potatoes in all forms are my favorite. My mom says it was one of my favorite baby foods and I still love them :)

Aw happy house anniversary!! That is so sweet, my husband and I can’t wait to the day we have out own house. :) :)

By the way, I love all of your pretty plates, bowls, cups, and just serving-ware in general. That goes for your table settings too. :)

Mmmm sweet potato fries, those are going on the menu tonight. Do you usually do something, like read, when you sit at the table? I have to be doing something else, I actually find it helps me eat slower.

I was actually thinking that your lunch did cover all the basic food groups before you even said it- I love the randomness :-)
Happy house-anniversary, it always looks so nice in the pics with your cute decor!

Hilary ,
They are Crate & Barrel, last spring’s line.

BethT ,
I just count my yogurt as yogurt ;) The main reason it’s in with milk is the calcium contribution (the “milk” group should just be called the “calcium” group) and the meat and beans group offers a different range of nutrients like iron and fiber that yogurt doesn’t have. So I would still keep it with milk.

Liz ,
Yes, I often read magazines or my book. Sometimes I watch TV from the table. I agree that having a distraction helps slow me down some – so long as I still realize I’m eating and am enjoying the food. Too much distraction I don’t like.

Anne P,
When my sister and I were in high school we complained that my mom never made us hot breakfasts (she said she didn’t know we wanted them) so she started making us oatmeal and eggs + toast in the rotation. Her oatmeal was cooked on the stove-top with water and LOTS of brown sugar – and it was so good! I think that’s when I fell in love, but I didn’t start making it myself daily until sometime in 2007.

Hey Kath! quick question for you…

do you eat a pre-workout snack and just not post it? or do you just drink water or something and wait til after to enjoy your oatmeal?

thanks!

love the blog :)

I have never had sweet potatoes but they always look good on your blog…I will have to try them! Anyway…after reading Cristin’s blog from eat like me for about a year and your blog for a few weeks now and I was surprised by how many other people have them too (I have been looking through the blogroll)…so I started my own!!! I just started posting today so its going to be awhile before its starts being even close to as good as some of the blogs I have seen on here but I just wanted to say thank you to all the bloggers for inspiring me!

Has anyone tried yogurt made from coconut milk? I had some today and it was really good.

And reading through comments-you used to eat instant oatmeal (gasp!) for a snack when you worked at the newspaper/magazine (can’t remember which) and that was waaaaay before 2007 =D

Kassie ,
No, I don’t eat anything before. I do drink a 24 oz water bottle at the gym, which is perfect to delay any stomach growls until I’m ready for breakfast.

Chelsea ,
Wow, have we really “known” each other that long!?!?! You’re exposing me with the instant oatmeal! I don’t even remember eating it! I wonder what kind it was??
