Home Again, Home Again, Jiggity Jig

March 18, 2012

The second half of my journey was much longer, and as the driver I wasn’t able to shift around and got very uncomfortable. Thank goodness for yoga tunas and tennis balls!

I came home to SUPER green grass.

And a husband who is cuter than I remember!

Andddddddddd….. dinner!!

Local bison burgers on local Virginia roll buns and local kale chips! With non-local ketchup.

Matt asked if I wanted any spinach on my burger. I said no. Then I found this leaf had snuck inside!! “For the nutrients,” I’m sure.

Perfectly cooked kale chips!

Served with a puddle of ketchup.

And later, an episode of LOST! Dontcha love it when Hurley’s mom calls him “Ugo”

Excited to sleep in my bed, although I will miss the ocean.

Haha, that’s so funny that Matt snuck in a tiny bit of spinach.

2 Sana March 18, 2012 at 7:45 pm

You and Matt totally play food tricks on each other. I guess that is what happens when you give him decaf coffee!!! Too silly :)

Oh Lost. The. Best.

5 Katie @ Peace Love & Oats March 18, 2012 at 7:52 pm

I’ve fallen back in love with ketchup, today I made carrot and zucchini fries, dipped in ketchup! Glad you made it back safely!

6 Katie @ Talk Less, Say More March 18, 2012 at 7:59 pm

I think you just made me decide on a veggie burger for dinner! :)

7 katie @KatieDid March 18, 2012 at 8:00 pm

11 kathleen @ the daily crumb March 18, 2012 at 8:18 pm

i am not a fan of solo road trips — so much boredom and uncomfortableness!! good thing you had a wonderful hubby and delicious dinner waiting for you :)

HA! Food games, gotta love ‘em!

13 Macy March 18, 2012 at 8:34 pm

We had turkey burgers over here tonight!
And I’m soo jealous of all the vacations you get to take! I’ve actually never taken a vacation before (I’m so ashamed to say that) but we just don’t make a lot of money :*(

14 Jessica March 18, 2012 at 8:41 pm

I like vacations, but I think I like coming home even more sometimes. :D
Did Matt have to stay home for work at the bakery? I think its kinda adorable that he snuck in some spinach. Its for the baby <3

15 Justeen @ Blissful Baking March 18, 2012 at 8:47 pm

How nice to come home to a delicious home-cooked meal after a long day of traveling :) So funny that Matt snuck in the spinach leaf!

16 Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) March 18, 2012 at 8:48 pm

LOL, tiny little spinach leaf! What a sweet hubby you have :)

18 Lindzjane115 March 18, 2012 at 9:16 pm

We had almost the exact same meal in Friday! Local beef burgers on GH Virginia rolls with kale on the side! Glad you made it home. Uncomfortable driving is the worst!

19 Kelly March 18, 2012 at 9:34 pm

I love that Matt snuck two tiny spinach leaves on your burger. What a little prankster!

20 Lauren @ What Lauren Likes March 18, 2012 at 9:43 pm

Aw! Haha welcome home :)

21 Barbara Hutchinson March 18, 2012 at 9:50 pm

Love your blog! My husband (who never eats oatmeal) loved the whipped banana oatmeal we had for a late dinner tonight. I managed to remember Chia seeds and stopped by the bakery on Friday for the first time and came away with granola, bread and several butters to try. Thanks for the wonderful writing-I look forward to it every day now.

22 KathEats March 19, 2012 at 7:45 am

Thanks Barbara!

23 Michelle (Better with Berries) March 18, 2012 at 9:55 pm

One time my boyfriend snuck a little broccoli under the cheese on my pizza. I’m not a broccoli lover, and I was not happy when I found it!

24 Kerry @ Totes My Oats March 18, 2012 at 10:00 pm

Bison burgers – yum!! Have a relaxing night!

25 Laura @ She Eats Well March 18, 2012 at 10:04 pm

Ha ha. I love how those two tiny innocent spinach leaves just snuck on there…creepin’ in! Looks like a delish burger, though. Happy Sunday!

26 Grace March 18, 2012 at 10:32 pm

34 Amy @ Nourishing Power March 19, 2012 at 7:40 am

I definitely have porch envy after seeing this post. :)

35 Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin March 19, 2012 at 6:27 am

36 Jodi @ Jodi, Fat or Not March 19, 2012 at 6:33 am

I always forget about making kale chips until I see them on your blog…then they are all I can think about! Welcome back home!

37 Hope @ With A Side Of Hope March 19, 2012 at 6:47 am

So glad that you had a great weekend and made it home safely. :) Kale is yummy!

38 DeskSnacker March 19, 2012 at 7:24 am

You’ve got to try the “curry ketchup”. Way yum. I found it at the local Whole Foods CVille.

39 Jasper Naomi @ crunchylittlebites March 19, 2012 at 8:02 am

Is it summery and mild weather up in C’ville like it is in Durham, NC? :D it’s lovely!

40 Jeri March 19, 2012 at 8:20 am

I love road trips! Especially to Blackburg in the fall. (God really is a Hokie! LOL) Anyway your patio is my dream patio setting. I live in Va Beach and want a an enclosed patio that has a beachy feel to it. I might have to “borrow” that pic to use as my design base. I see why you eat outside. So peaceful isn’t it?

S/N what is Sunbutter? Like peanut butter but made with sunflower seeds?
Have a great day!

41 KathEats March 19, 2012 at 8:21 am

Yup! Ground up sunflower seeds. It’s even better than the seeds themselves!

42 Angel7 March 19, 2012 at 8:43 am

I know what you mean about being uncomfortable when driving long trips. The last time I was pregnant, I rode in the passanger side, and my back hurt so bad–I cannot remember how many weeks I was, though.

43 ~Christy @ wonderofallthings March 19, 2012 at 10:01 am

Somehow my kale chips never look so good — I’ll have to give it another go! Glad you made it home safe. :)

44 Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count March 19, 2012 at 10:55 am
