The second half of my journey was much longer, and as the driver I wasn’t able to shift around and got very uncomfortable. Thank goodness for yoga tunas and tennis balls!
I came home to SUPER green grass.
And a husband who is cuter than I remember!
Andddddddddd….. dinner!!
Local bison burgers on local Virginia roll buns and local kale chips! With non-local ketchup.
Matt asked if I wanted any spinach on my burger. I said no. Then I found this leaf had snuck inside!! “For the nutrients,” I’m sure.
Perfectly cooked kale chips!
Served with a puddle of ketchup.
And later, an episode of LOST! Dontcha love it when Hurley’s mom calls him “Ugo”
Excited to sleep in my bed, although I will miss the ocean.

Haha, that’s so funny that Matt snuck in a tiny bit of spinach.
You and Matt totally play food tricks on each other. I guess that is what happens when you give him decaf coffee!!! Too silly
Oh Lost. The. Best.
I’ve fallen back in love with ketchup, today I made carrot and zucchini fries, dipped in ketchup! Glad you made it back safely!
I think you just made me decide on a veggie burger for dinner!
Love the bright dinner pics. Feels and looks like summer!
Nothing like a home cooked meal made by your hubbie! Yummy, yummy!
Aww I miss LOST…. love Hurley!!
LOL! The lone spinach leaf is adorable.
i am not a fan of solo road trips — so much boredom and uncomfortableness!! good thing you had a wonderful hubby and delicious dinner waiting for you
HA! Food games, gotta love ‘em!
We had turkey burgers over here tonight!
And I’m soo jealous of all the vacations you get to take! I’ve actually never taken a vacation before (I’m so ashamed to say that) but we just don’t make a lot of money :*(
I like vacations, but I think I like coming home even more sometimes.
Did Matt have to stay home for work at the bakery? I think its kinda adorable that he snuck in some spinach. Its for the baby <3
How nice to come home to a delicious home-cooked meal after a long day of traveling
So funny that Matt snuck in the spinach leaf!
Finally getting home is always such a great feeling after a long trip. Enjoy your night with Matt!
LOL, tiny little spinach leaf! What a sweet hubby you have
We had almost the exact same meal in Friday! Local beef burgers on GH Virginia rolls with kale on the side! Glad you made it home. Uncomfortable driving is the worst!
I love that Matt snuck two tiny spinach leaves on your burger. What a little prankster!
Aw! Haha welcome home
Love your blog! My husband (who never eats oatmeal) loved the whipped banana oatmeal we had for a late dinner tonight. I managed to remember Chia seeds and stopped by the bakery on Friday for the first time and came away with granola, bread and several butters to try. Thanks for the wonderful writing-I look forward to it every day now.
Thanks Barbara!
One time my boyfriend snuck a little broccoli under the cheese on my pizza. I’m not a broccoli lover, and I was not happy when I found it!
Bison burgers – yum!! Have a relaxing night!
Ha ha. I love how those two tiny innocent spinach leaves just snuck on there…creepin’ in! Looks like a delish burger, though. Happy Sunday!
burgers, kale chips, and shorts. looks like summertime to me
Glad you made it home safe! Can’t get enough of that kale lately!
Such a cute hubbie you have!!
a puddle of ketchup is the way I like to eat just about anything
Welcome home & glad you made it back, safe & sound.
“A puddle of ketchup”–> you’re speaking my language
Haha! I love the little leaves of spinach inside.
I feel his love to you and the baby
Man, it’s been awhile we had burgers
I’m not sure I’ve seen the porch from this angle – it looks WONDERFUL!!!
I definitely have porch envy after seeing this post.
Haha too funny that he snuck on some spinach! Next thing you know he’ll be pureeing veggies into your spaghetti sauce.
I always forget about making kale chips until I see them on your blog…then they are all I can think about! Welcome back home!
So glad that you had a great weekend and made it home safely.
Kale is yummy!
You’ve got to try the “curry ketchup”. Way yum. I found it at the local Whole Foods CVille.
Is it summery and mild weather up in C’ville like it is in Durham, NC?
it’s lovely!
I love road trips! Especially to Blackburg in the fall. (God really is a Hokie! LOL) Anyway your patio is my dream patio setting. I live in Va Beach and want a an enclosed patio that has a beachy feel to it. I might have to “borrow” that pic to use as my design base. I see why you eat outside. So peaceful isn’t it?
S/N what is Sunbutter? Like peanut butter but made with sunflower seeds?
Have a great day!
Yup! Ground up sunflower seeds. It’s even better than the seeds themselves!
I know what you mean about being uncomfortable when driving long trips. The last time I was pregnant, I rode in the passanger side, and my back hurt so bad–I cannot remember how many weeks I was, though.

Somehow my kale chips never look so good — I’ll have to give it another go! Glad you made it home safe.
Nice to have dinner ready when you get home!
love the local emphasis!
You guys are adorable!
Mmmmm ketchup! That’s a vegetable, right ?
