Glad to be home!

Everything on our flights went smoothly yesterday. I read some, snoozed some. We were exhausted when we got home. Everything was unpacked within 20 minutes and we watched The Office from bed (HI-larious episode and OMG ending that I totally predicted!!).

I was a little bit hungry, but too sleepy to make anything. I just snacked on a few of these Melba toasts for some crunch

They were delicious and hit the spot

This morning we slept until 9:00!! Guess that’s really 8 New Orleans time, but I haven’t slept that late in ages. The day seems to be half over and I’m just now blogging breakfast!

IMG_6352 (1024x768)

I had a bowl of old faithful

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 2 tbsp 9 grain cereal
  • 1/2 large banana (which I bought at the airport before leaving!!)
  • 1/3 cup vanilla soy milk (shelf stable is so great when coming home from a trip)
  • 1 tbsp flax
  • Splash vanilla
  • Pinch salt
  • Sprinkle almonds
  • Spoonfuls of Cacao Bliss and Walnut Butter

IMG_6351 (1024x768)

With hot tea. BethT sent me some of her leftover sugar cookie sleigh ride tea (she didn’t care for it) and I had that mixed with English breakfast. Thanks Beth!! I had never thought of mixing teas before, but the vanilla-y sleigh ride and the stronger black tea mix was great with a splash of soy milk.

Priority: grocery shopping! We haven’t had good fresh groceries in our fridge for 2 weeks now we these mini vacations. I am violently craving GREENS!! I’ve been saving a ton of recipes for months to make when I have time to enjoy cooking them, so I hope to tackle some of those this week!

I have a lot of things to do today, but nothing that is mandatory, so there’s no rush. We’ve got FALL weather – ick! I want my summer back!

I think we are bowl twins. V. random because it’s just a bowl I used to use at my old job.

Coming home is so wonderful. I’m going on vacation for 3 weeks and I know I’ll have fun, but I’ll miss home and my routine too.

Yum, Cacao Bliss looks delish. I know what you mean about craving greens and other fresh veggies after not having them for a few days. You start feeling incomplete and unbalanced, as if your mouth feels the need to be cleaned by nature’s goodness!

I know what you mean about craving greens after not having them for a weekend. I would start seeing mirages of salads when I would do weekend jaunts to Mexico while living on the border! (j/k but almost true)

Glad you can put the tea to good use!

We went to Hawaii two weeks ago and I was shocked at how little produce is served in restaurants there. I pictured tons of veggies growing in those lush hills, but I guess the soil isn’t great for it – they import a lot of veggies, which are $$$, so restaurants usually serve a protein + starch. By the end of th trip I was dying for anything green.

I love mixing teas! I regularly throw in a plain-ish black tea (usually English breakfast, like you had) with a fruity herbal tea. You should try it – I bet you’d like it!

Those little melba toasts looks yum! But then again, I think I’d like anything with “spicy” in the name and a photo of gucamole on the box.

Have fun grocery shopping…feel SO good to be re-stocked!

I didn’t know melba toast came in different flavors, I will have to look for those!

Welcome back! It must be nice to get back to those oats for breakfast! ;) Have a wonderful, relaxing day to get caught up on things around home!

I have a question for you about coconuts. Coconuts are filled with saturated fats, but I’ve heard that their saturated fat is actually not bad for you. How can this be?

One more question :)
How long does sauteed tofu stay good in the fridge?

Thanks Kath!

What a fabulous day for Oatmeal. I wanted this morning, but somehow in Miami it is more like a sauna than anything else. Walking to my car from my apt: like walking through hot oatmeal. Sorta dampens your craving.

Heather ,
Saturated fat is not bad for you – it’s in tons of healthy foods in small amounts, and in coconuts in higher amounts. It’s LARGE amounts of saturated fat, especially in proportion to low amounts of unsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats that poses and higher risk of cardiovascular diseases. So if you generally eat healthy with lots of plants and animals sprinkled in, you have nothing to worry about.

Heather ,
I have no idea, but I tend to think you should consume most foods within a 10 days – 2 weeks of opening (sans condiments, nut butters, etc.)
