Glad to be home!
Everything on our flights went smoothly yesterday. I read some, snoozed some. We were exhausted when we got home. Everything was unpacked within 20 minutes and we watched The Office from bed (HI-larious episode and OMG ending that I totally predicted!!).
I was a little bit hungry, but too sleepy to make anything. I just snacked on a few of these Melba toasts for some crunch
They were delicious and hit the spot
This morning we slept until 9:00!! Guess that’s really 8 New Orleans time, but I haven’t slept that late in ages. The day seems to be half over and I’m just now blogging breakfast!
I had a bowl of old faithful
- 1/3 cup oats
- 2 tbsp 9 grain cereal
- 1/2 large banana (which I bought at the airport before leaving!!)
- 1/3 cup vanilla soy milk (shelf stable is so great when coming home from a trip)
- 1 tbsp flax
- Splash vanilla
- Pinch salt
- Sprinkle almonds
- Spoonfuls of Cacao Bliss and Walnut Butter
With hot tea. BethT sent me some of her leftover sugar cookie sleigh ride tea (she didn’t care for it) and I had that mixed with English breakfast. Thanks Beth!! I had never thought of mixing teas before, but the vanilla-y sleigh ride and the stronger black tea mix was great with a splash of soy milk.
Priority: grocery shopping! We haven’t had good fresh groceries in our fridge for 2 weeks now we these mini vacations. I am violently craving GREENS!! I’ve been saving a ton of recipes for months to make when I have time to enjoy cooking them, so I hope to tackle some of those this week!
I have a lot of things to do today, but nothing that is mandatory, so there’s no rush. We’ve got FALL weather – ick! I want my summer back!

I LOVE mixing teas! Hope you have fun relaxing today – it’s cold here too
Looking forward to some yummy recipes!
Ugh, we’ve got horrible weather here too
C’mon summer!!
I hope you get your greens today–going grocery shopping after a long hiatus is always so exciting to me too
Glad you’re back safe!
I think we are bowl twins. V. random because it’s just a bowl I used to use at my old job.

It does feel like fall out! ICK! I can’t wait for it to warm back up!! Glad you guys are home safe and got some rest in. Enjoy food shopping
I’m glad your flights went well. I’m looking forward to seeing your upcoming recipes.
Your breakfast is making me hungry! And greens sound really good right now. Yum!
Coming home is so wonderful. I’m going on vacation for 3 weeks and I know I’ll have fun, but I’ll miss home and my routine too.
Glad you are safe and home!!! And breakfast looks YUMMY!
i LOVE coming home after being on vacation! its the best feeling! Your oats look so creamy and good on this cold morning! I’m wishing for summer weather too.
I was out of town this weekend too and didn’t have time to go grocery shopping – I need fresh fruit sooo bad! Have a great day!
Horrible fall weather here too! Your breakfast looks yummy!
Yum, Cacao Bliss looks delish. I know what you mean about craving greens and other fresh veggies after not having them for a few days. You start feeling incomplete and unbalanced, as if your mouth feels the need to be cleaned by nature’s goodness!

Welcome back!
We have fall here as well today
Have a wonderful day!! It’s gorgeous here today, which means this weather is coming your way!
Have fun grocery shopping!
Ahhh Istill havent seen that Office episode yet!!!
I love melba snacks with whipped cottage cheese!
Yeah, summer keeps teasing us!!
I know what you mean about craving greens after not having them for a weekend. I would start seeing mirages of salads when I would do weekend jaunts to Mexico while living on the border! (j/k but almost true)
That bowl of oats looks awesome! I bet you’re glad to be home for that.

Glad you made it home safe! Hopefully you’ll be able to relax today!
While breakfast looks scrumptious as always, I am so interested in those Melba Toasts! I must find that flavor and try them! Hope you have a relaxing and lovely day back
Welcome back to heaps of laundry, unopened mail and an empty fridge. I have to say, returning from vacation is the WORST part!
glad to hear y’all had a safe trip!
I’m craving some greens, too. Why not start with a green smoothie then progress to steamed greens at dinner? Sounds like a PLAN!
I’ll trade you your fall weather for our 96 degree heat!
It’s funny – last night I remarked that the weather felt like October! Hopefully the warm sun will return soon
Your cacao bliss looks so good, yum.
Glad you can put the tea to good use!
We went to Hawaii two weeks ago and I was shocked at how little produce is served in restaurants there. I pictured tons of veggies growing in those lush hills, but I guess the soil isn’t great for it – they import a lot of veggies, which are $$$, so restaurants usually serve a protein + starch. By the end of th trip I was dying for anything green.
Good luck on the grocery shopping!
Loved the Office episode. Have fun grocery shopping. It’s my favorite thing to do when I get back froma trip.
I love mixing teas! I regularly throw in a plain-ish black tea (usually English breakfast, like you had) with a fruity herbal tea. You should try it – I bet you’d like it!
Those little melba toasts looks yum! But then again, I think I’d like anything with “spicy” in the name and a photo of gucamole on the box.
Have fun grocery shopping…feel SO good to be re-stocked!
The Office was so funny last week! Loved it…and defiinitely called the ending as well!
Enjoy all your greens!
I loved The Office too, but did NOT expect (heh I said ‘expect’ ) that ending at all!
I didn’t know melba toast came in different flavors, I will have to look for those!
good to hear your flight went well! i’m looking forward to seeing the new recipes!
glad you are back safe and sound. Also watched the office last night — awesome epi!
Nothing like getting a restocked fridge after having a naked one for awhile!
Welcome back! It must be nice to get back to those oats for breakfast!
Have a wonderful, relaxing day to get caught up on things around home!
I have a question for you about coconuts. Coconuts are filled with saturated fats, but I’ve heard that their saturated fat is actually not bad for you. How can this be?
One more question
…
How long does sauteed tofu stay good in the fridge?
Thanks Kath!
new slogan: melba toast. it’s not just for grannies anymore!
What a fabulous day for Oatmeal. I wanted this morning, but somehow in Miami it is more like a sauna than anything else. Walking to my car from my apt: like walking through hot oatmeal. Sorta dampens your craving.
I’ve never thought to mix teas, I’ll have to give it a try! I really fancy those Melba toasts, I’ll have to look out for something similar here.
I know that your shopping will be fabulous! I know what you need about needing to get the greens in!
glad you got home! we’re having pretty cool weather in VA, too – it definitely does not feel like spring!
have fun grocery shopping! I HATE when I go too long without good food in the house.
Heather ,
Saturated fat is not bad for you – it’s in tons of healthy foods in small amounts, and in coconuts in higher amounts. It’s LARGE amounts of saturated fat, especially in proportion to low amounts of unsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats that poses and higher risk of cardiovascular diseases. So if you generally eat healthy with lots of plants and animals sprinkled in, you have nothing to worry about.
Heather ,
I have no idea, but I tend to think you should consume most foods within a 10 days – 2 weeks of opening (sans condiments, nut butters, etc.)

I love crunchy crunchy melba toasts too! That cacao butter on top of oats looks AMAZING! I hope it got all melty and delicious in your belly!
Oh my goddddd. That oatmeal combo sounds amazing. I gotta try it.
You know what I discovered the other day? That some dollar stores actually sell Melba Toasts!!! And nothing seemed to be wrong with them.
