There’s nothing worse than being bored at work, and we are never bored on a Saturday here!
More wonderful things about working in a bakery are:
1) The temperature is always 80* – like a tropical island year round!
2) There is no shortage of food if you get hungry
3) There is always fun music playing
4) Every day is a fresh start at the elimination game. The goal is to get rid of everything in the store, so it’s a very organized process for type A people like me

5) People interaction all day long. Our customers are so nice.
I discovered that I was suddenly starving at 11:30, but then a tub of frosting presented itself after Alex has frosted some cinnamon pecan buns. A [clean] spoonful was enough to keep me going.
Healthiest snack of the year award : )
By the time I actually did have time to sit down for lunch after the lunchtime rush, I was craving protein and veggies badly!
I put together a salad with tuna salad, hummus, pimento cheese, cheddar and lots of veggies, plus a few croutons of bread.
The farmer’s market sold out of bread an hour early!
And we are OUT of Honey Bunnies here already!
Next year = make more!
Happy Easter Weekend!

I’m so glad you’re enjoying your Saturday, Kath! Happy holiday!
Thats so awesome!! Those bunnies were so cute
Im kinda jealous for you and the bakery, sounds like such a fun and enjoyable job, i bet you neverget bored :]
That frosting. I want that whole bowl
And never thought about the “always 80F” phenomenon. That would be perfect for me…along with the frosting
Ironically, I am checking the blog on my lunch break at work and am having a painfully slow day!! I am hoping they will let me go early!
We Sooooooo need a Great Harvest in Va Beach. You guys should open another one here.
My mom picked up our honey bunny this morning – SOO adorable. I can’t wait to have it on our dinner table tomorrow. That’s awesome that the bread sold out an hour early! Well, not so awesome for late-comers, haha, but great for you guys. Love those colored eggs! My mom, sister, and I are coloring our eggs now but they’re very light – I like your brilliant colors!
I would love to be in 80 degree temps all day (except when I’m working out). Plus, I’m sure the smell of fresh baked bread makes it all the better!
Love the vibrant egg colors! Hope you take some time to put your feet up off and on throughout the day!
I am not a baker, I mean I bake some times but I am more of the savory type kind of cook … I have to admit that lately I am enjoying baking a lot more … I follow your blog and it sure seems like a great place to work!
Have a great Saturday!
Those bunnies were amazing looking! I want one!!!!!!
Wow! Awesome sell out at the market! Not surprising…your bakery goods look soooooo good!
Sounds like Great Harvest had a Great Day! Happy Easter!
Healthy shmealthy – those buns look delicious!

Do you guys sell dig treats? I picked one up at our GH because the were too cute!
Mmmm dig treats!! [Yes we do
]
Good grief! I need to stop commenting on my phone. Ha
Never!
congrats on a successful business day!! I waitress and also LOVE all the people interaction, it keeps things fun and interesting.
love the bright and colorful eggs!! we did not dye our own for the first time in years (sad!), but i’m still looking forward to tomorrow’s easter egg hunt
Congrats on a successful holiday weekend! I’d like some frosting, too, please. You can kern the 80F though!
That’s great for you all that you already sold out of bunnies! Great business day!
80F sounds lovely!! I think working in the bakery would be so much fun – like you said, the customer interaction and delish food (and smells!) would be enough to make me want to stay there for hours – and the frosting spoons of course!
Congrats on a great weekend of sales!
just got back from a visit to the rockville great harvest store! got to sample all sorts of amazing bread!!!! the bunnies were super cute to see in person
That sounds like an amazingly fun day. Right up my alley. Happy Easter and I hope you got a Honey Bunny for yourself.
That salad looks good! Happy Easter!
I can feel the busy-ness
It might be interesting to do a future post about the ups and downs of owing/opening up a new business. Most new places struggle to build up in the first few years but it seems you guys are doing well!
I knew the bunnies would go fast!
I love working in an environment with food… but the only thing is that when it’s free for me to eat it, I tend to overeat
What a fun day in the Bakery! Whenever I eat straight up sugar, aka frosting, which is sometimes quite often (ha), I always crave veggies and protein after too. And your salad looks lovely! But so does that frosting…about to make a Bunny Cake for tomorrow and now I have frosting on my mind.
I don’t know how you show such restraint. I’d be 800 lbs if worked at that bakery.
I don’t work there everyday
And also, you really do get “carbed out” quite quickly!
yayyyuhhhh!!! I now live a liiiitle closer to the GH in socal so I’m quite stoked!
hehehe. I would love to work at a bakery like that too~except I used to once upon a time, and I had a bad habit of eating 5-6 pastries at once. I hope you have a very happy EASTER Kath!!!
Congrats on a successful day at the bakery!

Thanks for the GREAT lunch on Tues. We were the family (2 tall D’son grads with kids in tow) that came by Tuesday. We had a great picnic at Monticello thanks to you, Matt and your wonderful crew. A great trip to VA– Hot Springs, Douthat State Park, Monticello, Crozet’s Pizza, FOAMhenge, paddled the James, biked the Creeper…can’t wait to head back.
Happy Spring–Katherine
So glad you enjoyed it!
