Up and at ‘em at 5 this morning. I got a number of good tasks completed last night that had piled up over the weekend, so I’m feeling in control of my crazy life again. Hope this afternoon I can enjoy another spring day and watch that Gossip Girl that I saw on my DVR! (I want to watch "The Debarted" once more before I do though!)
I headed to the gym for some light cardio and a weight session. 35 minutes on the elliptical plus a solid 15 of weights. I tried to lift heavy weights and work each major muscle group. Think it worked because I was shaking in the shoulders as I photographed breakfast!
Good ole oatmeal. Nothing fills me up quite the same!
The Mix
- 1/4 cup oats
- 1/4 cup Bob’s Red Mill Apple Cinnamon Hot Cereal
- 1/4 cup soy milk
- 3/4 cup water
- Half banana
- Half tbsp chia seeds
- Pinch salt
- 1/3 cup cottage cheese, stirred in at end
- Vanilla + cinnamon
- Toppings: TJ’s Pumpkin Butter, coconut, walnut meal from some I ground for a recipe and Naturally Nutty Vanilla Peanut Butter!
Christmas Blend. Trying to use it up so I can open my SPRING BLEND!
I’m going on a limb and saying this is a kneeling woman with a baby dot growing inside of her

beautiful breakfast! it looks like it snowed in your oatmeal.
as a nutritionist i was wondering about your take on recent findings that alcohol consumption might not be directly related to weight gain (http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/03/08/women-drinkers-gain-less-weight/?em). i know you drink very little alcohol, lots of “mocktails” etc…..obviously drinks have calories but do you think more may be at play than a “calories in, calories out” train of thought?
i don’t know….it interests me a lot. i suppose everyone’s body and metabolism is different though.

the Paris Food Blague
Everything I learned about alcohol metabolism in my classes indicated that alcohol = fat gain. From the processes in the liver (alcohol metabolism shuts off lipolysis) to the hangover effects – there’s just nothing good about alcohol! That said, I don’t think 4 oz of wine at dinner is going to make you gain weight or shut off all fat burn. I think it’s more 2-3 glasses a few times a week. But still, I think of a glass of wine as a treat – not a daily “medicine.” The risks outweigh the benefits, in my opinion.
PS. I think with that article – I bet they are eating less. Alcohol does take away my appetite (with 1 drink, not 3
)
And I see now that the researchers mentioned this
OHH that oatmeal looks good! I hve to say, I have OATS IN A JAR all lined up for tomorrow (I just finished my PB jar
) and I feel here is one of the few places I can state that where fellow PB lovers will share my excitement
In regards to the above post, I’m a big believer in the ‘cals in, cals out’ thing – I don’t think it matters what you eat or drink, if it’s too much, you gain!
I love your red floral bowl! So spring like! And every time I see Naturally Nutty I want to try it even more! You make it look so yummy
E-mailing is such a great idea for giveaways. Whenever there is a giveaway, I feel like I can’t comment on the actual post!
I am obsessed with Gossip Girl and usually go to the gym very early Tuesday mornings so that I can come home and enjoy Gossip Girl with my breakfast. Thankfully Gossip Girl was on last night so I had a nice morning treat today. What would we do without DVR?
That is an awesome idea for the giveaway! And I would love to try vanilla peanut butter…sounds so yummy.
Great solution for the giveaways! I wish I ate dairy because I used to LOVE siggis when I did.

Ooo, I opted out of oats this morning, but am slightly regretting my decision after seeing your deeelish bowl! Yum!
Oh, and I saw some green sprouts the other day in my flower beds and practically jumped up and down in excitement…only to realize they were weeds that had broken through to the surface and not my flowers! Rats! Oh, well…give them a few weeks, I guess! Your tulips look so Springy.
I totally see the kneeling woman with a baby. Jesus coffee!
Love the picture in the coffee this morning. I saw the same thing!

Hahaha love the mother kneeling with the baby dot inside her. You are too cute.
Great workout, Kath! I love that shaky feeling after a good, sweaty strength session.
Your oats look particularly yummy this morning too. I’m dying to try that nut butter!
I love that bowl, Kath!
I love it that you are having people e-mail to enter this contest– SO much better than hundreds of comments for the people who actually just want to comment on the post!
Looks like a great start to the day– that bowl is one of my fave’s of yours!
The oatmeal looks like a great mix of everything. Looks like it all went together so well! Yum!
Never tried Siggi’s yogurt, I have always been curious to though. I adore all your cute little oatmeal bowls
Enjoy your day at work!
I am having some good ol oatmeal myself right now . . . but I didn’t wake up at 5am, in fact it was more like 8:30 am . . . but I’m sick so I have a good excuse!
A lot of the book blogs I read use embedded Google spreadsheets to run contests. That way, people just enter their info, and all you have to do is choose from a spreadsheet. There’s an example of it at the bottom of the post here (http://www.thestorysiren.com/2010/03/author-interview-amelia-atwater-rhodes.html). Maybe this only works on certain platforms? I don’t know, but it could make your life easier!
That could work!
I agree, nothing feels me up like oats does. Absolutely nothing. And they are more delicious than any other breakfast too.. haha
LOVE that bowl, so pretty!
Favorite yogurt mix-in is walnuts!
Coconut in oatmeal looks divine
it’s always good to get little tasks accomplished so you feel in control of your life and can get on to bigger projects. i’m off for a light cardio day as well–love them.
Sounds like a great morning workout! Love getting mine out of the way before work, too – plus makes me feel great the rest of the day! I’ve got to pick up some of that nut butter soon. ?

I like that you saw a pregnant lady in your coffee. I am on my labor and delivery rotation right now… sitting in the obstetrics ER… waiting on patients to come in… I probably would have seen the same thing! Hope you have a wonderful day!
Mmmm! TJs pumpkin butter is amazing!
uuuughghggnhn make me breakfast!
Your oatmeal always looks so good!! Do you cook it stovetop or do overnight oats?
Stovetop! I’d call it overnight oats if it were soaked
Favorite yogurt mix-in: definitely banana slices. Yum!
Awesome giveaway. Have tweeted and will e-mail! Thanks!
That bowl is so adorable! Any chance you remember where you bought it?
Love the bowl!!! There is nothing like a big bowl of oats for breakfast! I have never put ground nuts on mine though and now I wonder why!!
the cherry blossom bowl is beautiful!
I think I need to reduce my oat/oat bran portion from 1/3 cup to 1/4 cup – my bowl of oats was HUGE today ; )
Your breakfast bowl is so pretty!
i love oatmeal too….it is the most comforting and filling b-fast food!
I think that bowl is my favorite – it’s so pretty! The oats sound delicious.
I kinda tried your overnight oatmeal today… kinda. I stirred some instant oatmeal with cranberries in water to soak, then a half cup of oatmeal, topped with peanut butter. Best I could do while travleling, but it was yummy!
I sent an e-mail and also tweeted, my tweeter is KitchenspaceAna, can you see my tweet Kath? I am not sure I did it right… I am new to the tweeting world!
Ana
I think I’m in love with that bowl–it’s so gorgeous! Red and white together is a beautiful combination.

Awesome giveaway! I tried to find Siggi’s at my favorite “Natural” store last night and they didn’t carry it.
Boo!
Jenn
That’s a good looking bowl of oats. I am addicted to the Bob’s apple cinnamon hot cereal right.
Hi Kath,
You have -beautiful- flatware. This one spoon in particular has a beautiful, antique feel. Would you mind telling me where you got it? And where you generally find such interesting/beautiful flatware and dishes?
Thanks
Thanks! All of my antiques I’ve inherited from my grandmother, and she has either collected them from our family or flea markets and clearing houses.
