Goin’ On A Bear Hike

June 13, 2010

I did it again!! I woke up at 6:30 and made myself go back to sleep. I thought maybe 20 minutes had passed and realized it was 8:35 when I woke up again!!! Guess I needed the rest.

Stumbled down to make muffin oats

Ironically because we never use it, our air conditioning appears to be broken. Matt cut a wire while cleaning brush and despite repairs it’s not working.

We’re supposed to be leaving town on a mother’s day hike at 1PM. Crap.

See y’all after our bear hike!

Have a lovely afternoon :)

2 Jessica @ How Sweet It Is June 13, 2010 at 9:30 am

Oh geez!! I hope your AC gets fixed! I know how stressful inspections are!

3 Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) June 13, 2010 at 9:31 am

Yikes, that stinks! Hopefully they can fix it quickly! Enjoy your hike! Now I need blueberry muffins! I wonder if the blueberry patch is ready for pickin’? I am off to find out!

4 Nicole, RD June 13, 2010 at 9:33 am

Eep! I hope it gets fixed!!

5 Coco @ Opera Girl Cooks June 13, 2010 at 9:34 am

Ok, I’ve seen your muffin oats so many times now that I feel like I am missing out. I will make some soon!

6 lynn (The Actors Diet) June 13, 2010 at 9:35 am

have a good hike! i was up at 5 this morning and couldn’t get back to sleep, despite ear plugs and eye mask. grrrr!!!

7 Marilou @ Mostly Healthy June 13, 2010 at 9:39 am

Belated Mother’s Day in June? hehehe :) Cute!

Cut wire are really easy to fix, don’t worry! (Don’t look at me like that, the boyfriend is an electrician, not I!)

Have a good hike!

I wouldnt’ worry too much about the AC. If anything, I think they’ll just make you sign something agreeing to have it fixed before you close… that’s what we did with needed repairs when we bought out house (and some things like the broken dishwasher weren’t caught, so we didn’t find out about them until we moved in, which meant we were SOL).

9 Lindsay @ Summit Sandwiches June 13, 2010 at 9:43 am

I seem to have the opposite problem. I can’t get to sleep late at night, but can then sleep till the cows come home. Argh. I need to get in the habit of going to bed earlier. Hope you have a great time on your hike!

10 Samantha June 13, 2010 at 9:44 am

So nice to see you using the word crap!
The AC can be fixed before they move in. Don’t stress on it.

11 Ashley@thehungryscholar June 13, 2010 at 9:55 am

I love the idea of muffin oats.

Sorry about the A/C. I hope everything gets solved with that! Have fun on your hike!

12 A Teenage Gourmet (Sami) June 13, 2010 at 9:57 am

I thought today was Fathers’ Day!

13 Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter June 13, 2010 at 10:10 am

I hope the inspection goes alright! Enjoy your belated Mother’s Day Hike :)

14 Claire June 13, 2010 at 10:13 am

It will be fine.just enjoy your day.It all seems to work out in the end:-)cc

15 Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ June 13, 2010 at 10:16 am

Don’t stress it’ll work out. That really sucks though.

16 Amber K June 13, 2010 at 10:17 am

That always happens when I just want 10-20 minutes of extra sleep. I know I should just get up because I WILL fall asleep for 60-120 minutes more.

17 Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine June 13, 2010 at 10:35 am

I love it when I can get a little extra sleep after my usual wakeup time! Feels so good. Good luck with the air conditioner and have a great hike!

18 Jil @ Peace, Love & Munchies June 13, 2010 at 10:43 am

Have a good hike – good luck with the air conditioning!

19 Krystina June 13, 2010 at 10:43 am

You have the ability to always make oats look tasty. A hike sounds fun!

20 Lisa June 13, 2010 at 10:44 am

Love the look of a crumbled muffin in oatmeal. I just never seem to have any muffins around. (You’re lucky to have a constant load of bakery goods.)

Have a fun time hiking – I wish I was hiking today. But misty and rainy, so it wouldn’t be the best weather for it.

22 Kath June 13, 2010 at 10:55 am

(And ON!)

23 Helen June 13, 2010 at 11:20 am

I’m glad you’ve fixed the air con, was it in time for the inspection! I love the idea of crumbling a muffin on your oatmeal, I must definitely try this, it looks delicious.

24 theemptynutjar June 13, 2010 at 11:20 am

looks good.
i forced myself to sleep in (a little)…i always get up super early…but all night and morning i was (still am) super sick, so tried to stay in bed …dont want to face the day :)

25 Wei-Wei June 13, 2010 at 11:34 am

Yay, AC is fixed! Just in time, too, right? 😉 I love muffins crumbled over oats! A lot of baked goods are good over oats. I don’t know about cookies, though… I guess it’d add a crunchy element to them? And macarons?! (I’m obsessed with macarons – the fancypants french variety.)

26 Tish June 13, 2010 at 11:57 am

Good for you! Enjoy your hike. Bears? Don’t run into any bears. I was hiking in Glacier NP with little granddaughter one time. She was 4 and we were stragglers behind the rest. She and I held hands and sang John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt really loud, over and over, so the bears wouldn’t get us.

27 Cynthia (It All Changes) June 13, 2010 at 12:03 pm

Eeek! See if you can get an HVAC guy out there asap. Worse case scenario you’ll have to get it fixed as part of the contract.

28 Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] June 13, 2010 at 12:13 pm

Mother’s Day? Ain’t it almost Father’s Day? : )

29 Lauren June 13, 2010 at 12:20 pm

I’m still distracted by how lovely your apartment is, even empty! Ah!

Enjoy your hike— I’m jealous. The closest I’ll get to a hike today is climbing to the top deck of Dodger Stadium here in Los Angeles. Which, when I think about it, is just about the greatest hike ever.

30 Little Bookworm June 13, 2010 at 1:10 pm

Hope you had fun on the hike! :)

31 Stacy (StacyGrowsHealthy) June 13, 2010 at 1:20 pm

Good luck with the AC. Have a nice hike!

32 Amy @ Amy Starts To Run June 13, 2010 at 1:32 pm

Glad your AC was fixed in such a jiffy, nothing like surprise stress. And least it keeps the blood pumping. Have fun on your hike!

33 Mary @ Bites and Bliss June 13, 2010 at 1:44 pm

I guess that’s one drawback to never using yout air conditioner! :S Hope you get it fixed before the inspection!! and have fun on the hike, but why for mother’s day? lol

34 Kristen @ Change of Pace June 13, 2010 at 1:50 pm

Remember to breathe! Everything will work out… It always does right? Love the blueberry oats :)

35 Katherine June 13, 2010 at 2:51 pm

mother’s day not father’s day? I hope the timing all worksout; enjoy the hike! (it’ll be hot!)

36 Katie June 13, 2010 at 3:23 pm

I love reading your blog and getting food ideas! I’m curious, I have never made oatmeal other than instant, how do you heat yours? Microwave? Crockpot? And for how long? Thanks!!

37 Kath June 13, 2010 at 8:34 pm

Check the “Tribute To Oatmeal” page for all the details!

38 Jackie (Peaces of Earth) June 13, 2010 at 3:35 pm

Yum, yum, yum! Those oats look fabulous. Good luck with the AC and enjoy your hike!

39 Kellie June 13, 2010 at 4:13 pm

My kids have the book Goin’ on Bear Hunt. Have a fun hike!

40 Beth @ DiningAndDishing June 13, 2010 at 5:02 pm

Never too late to celebrate mothers day :). Enjoy your hike!! Hope the weather is cooler there than here in DC!

41 Lana June 13, 2010 at 5:12 pm

do you presoack your chia seeds before having them in your oats? i bought some but am not so sure how to use them

42 Kath June 13, 2010 at 8:38 pm

Nope! Just put ’em in!

43 Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin June 13, 2010 at 5:52 pm

That’s awesome that you got a whole 2 hours extra sleep! I fell back asleep for 30 minutes today and I thought that was something to get excited about. 😛

44 Tina June 13, 2010 at 5:52 pm

Hey Kath, I just found your blog about a month ago and I absolutely love it! I was reading through some of your older posts and noticed that you have a grandmother who lives in Lakewood, NJ. How funny, because that’s where I grew up and where I work now! Oh and also, I’m going to be in Charlotte in October and thought it was another interesting coincidence that you live there. Was thinking of hitting up Rock Bottom. Any good?

45 Kath June 13, 2010 at 8:39 pm

Hi Tina! My grandmother from Lakewood actually passed away in May :( But I’ve been going there my whole life.

I’d recommend The Liberty or Brixx Pizza over Rockbottom myself…

46 Tina June 13, 2010 at 9:40 pm

Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that. :(

47 Kelly June 13, 2010 at 6:16 pm

Hey Kath! I love your blue bowl! Can you tell me who it’s made by? I’m in the process of registering for my wedding and on the lookout for pretty things! :)

48 Kath June 13, 2010 at 8:39 pm

I think it’s a Blue Willow bowl. I’m not sure if they make them anymore? I inherited it from my grandmother.

49 Hannah June 13, 2010 at 6:41 pm

Hurrah for AC being fixed! And that really is one of your most delightful looking oatmeals. I have some cornbread muffins in the freezer, I’m thinking cornbread oats with maple syrup 😀

50 Lisa @ bakebikeblog June 13, 2010 at 7:33 pm

Hope you have a great hike!!! and that things go smoothly for the inspection tomorrow :)

51 runnerforever June 13, 2010 at 7:34 pm

Hope you enjoyed the hike and that the inspection goes okay!

52 Paige (Running Around Normal) June 13, 2010 at 8:21 pm

Oh no! Hope the air conditioner issue gets resolved seamlessly!
Have fun on your hike:)

53 af @ .the food. June 14, 2010 at 7:29 am

i bet it gets resolved in time! (eternal optimist speaking…)
