Guess who went to BodyStep today! Me!!
I was hoping for something amazing, but it was really just a typical step class. Except for ONE song that was a jazz-hands dance number! I loved that one song. The rest of the class was good though, and I do hope to go back. It was a great change from the elliptical, and my legs will be feeling it tomorrow. [Boy-oh-boy was biking to the gym and back super cold today! I think my ankles have frostbite!]
Came home. Got sloshed.
Can you guess what the fun contribution to my juice was?
La pina!
Into the juicer – 2 carrots, 3 celeries, 1 whole cuc, 1 knob ginger, a big hunk of pineapple.
Dogfish represent!
The other half of lunch was a morph of hummus soup from last night – into hummus SCOOP!
Take a chip, any chip!
Hummus, spiced up with sriracha, more lemon and cilantro with chips for dipping
The chip forest was a great idea – until I realized they were all soggy on the bottom!
Did you look closely at my Pisgah glass?
Those are bubbles – made from our own KEG OF SPARKLING WATER!! Matt used his kegs and CO2 dispenser to turn water into magic. MAGIC! I’m super super excited about this because I’ve wanted a Soda Stream for ages but never wanted another appliance in my kitchen. This makes me more happy about the mass of beer equipment in our basement. We can put it in bottles and I’ll have tons and tons of my favorite water.
But get this – the keg was apparently not AS clean as Matt would like because after sitting overnight there is now a slight hoppy taste to the water! It’s like beer flavored seltzer. I’m likin’ it!
So the next, next big thing? Another beautiful giveaway:
A Breville Juice Fountain courtesy of OpenSky.

I love, love your chip forest! And jazz hands–how fun!
Every time I hear jazz hands I think of Bring It On. Jazz hands in step class sounds so silly, yet so fun.
Now I’m craving hummus!
Oh boy, I’m on a commenting role here
JAZZ HAND dancing!!?? I need that class in my life!
I want your lunch!
You’re just on a roll with the awesome giveaways
I’ve been wanting a juicer for ages
I love pineapple!
And how cool is your keg of sparkling water!
I have the Juice Fountain Elite (all stainless)…I love to juice, hate juicer cleanup. I wonder if you could give away a personal juicer cleanup person to go along with the juicer since it takes me foreverrrr to clean mine?
Woo, glad I’m already entered!
I’m dying for a Soda Stream. That’s awesome he made it with his brew equipment!
I LOVE those blue chips! But yeah, the crunch is the best part– soggy chips = no good!
I have no idea how you do cold drinks on cold days. You are a super hero in my book! Lunch looks delicious and the juice looks really good! Have a great afternoon!
What an amazing giveaway! Hummus is my addiction right now…
I recently sold my juicer and I kind of wish I still had one! I hope I win
Too bad about the soggy chips — the pictures sure looked neat though!
LOVE your chips in a bowl! mmmm crunch.
Have a super night with the GH people. Someday D, Ab, and I will stop by for a hunk of love!
(love = warm slice of bread from Matt and Kath)
I am entered… hope I win!! I’d love to juice, never tried it!! XOXO
I’m so excited to make the hummus soup! It looks amazing!
Ok seriously I’ve been dreaming of vitamix and juicers! I hope I win this one
Oooh what a great giveaway! I’ve never made my own juice (just smoothies) so I’d love to put one of these babies to the test! Have a great afternoon with the GH folk!
Love that you guys are making homemade carbonated water. Genius!
And, I sure hope I win the juicer. I would love, love, LOVE to have one in my home! Very exciting giveway! *fingers crossed*
Homemade bubbles! Love it! I’m dreaming of the freshness on a warm day spiked with cucumber? lime? berries? Sounds great! So do jazz-hands…jazz hands are always great.
Kath, have you seen Mark Bittman’s latest article in the NYTimes. He tells people to EAT REAL FOOD. Sounds like you’ve been ahead of the curve. Thanks for continuing to live that message.
Yup!!
Oooh, juicy giveaway!!
I’ve been thinking about a juicer lately, flavored nutrients appeal to me. hehe
I <3 fresh pina!!
That hummus looks so good! Love that you are able to make seltzer at home! That is one of my favorite drinks. Of course I always buy the flavored ones and I feel like I’m drinking a cocktail.
So, I just had to say I have a whole new respect of the time commitment your blog is.
As a fun little experiment, I decided to take a picture and post everything I eat today, and it’s time consuming!
Feel free to come check it out!
I’ve never heard of this BodyStep you speak of. Sounds like it requires coordination. I’d like to try Zumba, but my hips don’t really shake that way.
My hips don’t shake that way either
Jen, I’ve been going to Zumba for a long time – TRUST me you don’t have to be able to shake your hips any way! It’s SO MUCH FUN and there are always a variety of fitness levels there. You should try it! The hour FLIES by!
I only just started following with this post so wasn’t sure if I needed to comment also. I’d love to start juicing!!
Two beer glasses and no beer…..how sad! That’s clever idea for the sparking water though, even if it is a little hoppy!
I am really dying for a juicer – for years the clean-up daunted me, but now no longer.
Your chip forest looked yummy, soggy or not. And, I’d bet that beer flavored seltzer water might just catch on!
I’ve been thinking about hooking up my own CO2 tank for a while! Great moneysaver. I looked into the Soda Stream and it just doesn’t seem worth it.
p.s. I emailed OpenSky peeps and got no response. Should I email you again? <3
Email me at Katheats at Gmail Dot Com!
I might be alone in this but I like when the chip gets a little soggy. I do the chip forest biz too! Makes it so easy!
you are NOT alone in this, i soak my chips on purpose, in my rice in beans, chili, etc… So good!
Your camera seems to have woken up
I’ve been dreaming about your hummus soup since last night! And I need a juicer in my life too
Great giveaway! I’ve been wanting a juicer for a while now!
Mmmmm…fresh pineapple is the best! So jealous
Your food and drinks always look delicious!! We’ve been contemplating getting a juicer for a while now. Do you love yours??
Looks like you’ve had a fun afternoon already. The chip forest was especially entertaining. Your juice looked really tasty, too! I need to get (or win) a juicer : )
Hope you have a lovely rest of the day.
Definitely need to make some juice today!! Pineapple would be an awesome addition!
Seeing your Pisgah glass has me so excited for my May trip to the North Carolina mountains!! Yay!
CROSSING my fingers that I win that juicer!! It would be so cool!
Love that lunch – jealous.
Ha, it really does look like beer!! I was like-she’s really drinking that after a workout? lol Love pineapple in smoothies/jucies. Looks great!
Does your gym offer BodyCombat?? I used to take BodyStep all the time and got burnt out. BodyCombat is amazing and a great change up (for me) from running and biking.
No, it doesn’t. But I hear there’s a Body Dance of sorts that I would probably love!
Oh, but not at my gym
That looks like a very cool lunch
What a fab idea!
I have to try the Hummus soup recipe!
This is off topic, but what are your thoughts on “food combining”? I am reading about it, and it sounds reasonable, but to me it seems like it might be difficult to incorporate in my day to day. Just curious to hear your thoughts. Thanks.
I think our body has enzymes to digest all kinds of foods, so I think it’s a bit over the deep end. Our ancestors didn’t care about food combining – they just needed to eat for energy.
Sweet! I want a juicer so bad!! And that hummus soup please
That would be so great to get a juicer! woooohoooooo
Ah what a fun giveaway!! I have been researching juicers for the past few weeks but haven’t bit the bullet yet. Soo exciting!
that juice looks amazing!!!
I just have to say that I nearly jumped out of my seat when I saw the Dogfish glass. I LOVE DOGFISH!! :c)
Love the chip forest!
Your juice looks so refreshing!
The huz did this with our kegerator too in December, its genius!! I have picked up the soda stream water flavors and they taste awesome without the acid of citrus. I love that I can drink mass quantities of bubbly now without the guilt of all the packaging or the cost. Yay bubbles!
Just wanted to leave a note about the SodaStream – I have one, and it’s FANTASTIC. I hear the concern about another appliance on the counter, but it’s really light and portable, and would be easy to take in and out of a cabinet when needed as long as you have the space to store it.
It is SO much easier than lugging home bottles or cans from the supermarket, and saves a ton of packaging. It’s also extremely cost effective. One $15 canister will last me about a month and I drink a lot of seltzer – liters and liters of it – so it would probably last a normal person a lot longer! BB&B just started carrying their products, and with a coupon the canisters only cost $10.
I know I sound like a commercial – but I really just love my SodaStream!
oooh I love Body Step!
Man, now I want some beer flavored seltzer. That’s what’s missing in my life.
Have you tried Zumba!? Love it!! That juicer is rockin!
Ohhh sad I would’ev thought the chip forest idea was so smart, too! i’m not a fan of soggy chips, though. But I sure do love me some hummus! Also, that’s pretty funny about the water, ha! Way to spice up your Wednesday
That giveaway you just annouced made my heart flutter…. I’ve been wanting a juicer for SOOO long!!!!!
LOVE that you added Sriracha to to the hummus! I LOVE that stuff!!
I hope the great harvest dinner at your place tonight goes great!!!! Cant wait to see what you made!! : )
OMG! if this isn’t serendipity, then i dunno what it’s called! my Breville just got busted this morning – yes JUST. THIS. MORNING.! i know i am going to win it…. i know. i just know. LOL.
moreso, i have been wanting to do that BodyStep thingy for a while now. Kath – what are you, my angel or what???!
Hi Kath! I love your blog and read it daily. I couldn’t help but notice the Dogfish Head class today! My husband is a home brewer and LOVES Dogfish Head. I have ordered him several of their pint glasses but the one you featured today is new to me. Where did you get it??
Matt got it! I’m not sure where. He didn’t go to the brewery though
What a fun lunch! I’ll take the chip in the middle please, haha
Yay for a giveaway! And good for you for braving the cold
I like to eat my hummus with sriracha too! Love the spicy kick!
I gotta give you the creativity factor for both decor and food. You and Ashley- in my terms and opinion- should be featured in Vegnews or Clean Eating. As for decor, Anthropology, C&B or Pottery Barn. I’m not even joking
Just recently bought a Jack Lalanne juicer from costco- use it every morning and love it. Still scared to juice a pineapple, for some reason
Juice made with pineapple sounds awesome!!
Your juice looks so pretty! I don’t know how I feel about the hoppy-water though
Hummus Scoop! Love it.
Haha – I was waiting to see where the Rum was in that pineapple drink…should have known better
Have fun with GH – I was looking at their website…and now I want to open a Bakery…sheesh
I actually like soggy chips! When I was younger, I used to open a container of refried beans, put them in Tupperware, put a bunch of tortilla chips on top, stick them in the fridge, and eat them the next day with a spoon. Sounds disgusting… but I swear it is good!
AHHH I am so excited!! And your bowl of hummus soup/chips looks delicious, it makes me wish I had some blue corn chips in my pantry!
What a beautiful machine!
Beer flavored water, new drink trend?
That drink sounds awesome! And beer flavored water? Sign me up.
i’ve only taken bodystep once and i didn’t really know how i felt about it..but i also take step classes @ my university’s rec center and i love those. they add in strength intervals with barbells and dumbbells too so it’s a good mix of cardio and strength! =)
that juice looks amaaaazing.
i wish i had a juicer. im registed already on your opensky, so ill cross my fingers!
These giveaways are awesome – and lovin the pineapple!
I have so much frozen pineapple in my freezer right now for smoothies! I don’t have a juicer, but I can recreate the favour of this juice in smoothie form
Oh, Christmas in February! To win that juice fountain would MAKE MY YEAR. I love blue corn tortilla chips with hummus – prefer it to pita these days.
lately I’ve been eating so much hummus! and I think adding pineapple to anything makes it better.
This is weird, but I actually like a freshly-soggy chip. I know, I know… gross.
AWESOME give-away! Thank you!!
Hey Kath,
I’m sure a hundred people have shown you this by now, but I just read it and couldn’t resist sharing!

Enjoy!
Saw it!
eeek soggy chips. still so cute though!
Hi Kath, I recently started following your blog (since last week) and have been really inspired on all fronts-nutrition, activity, home neat home… Just signed up for your newsletter, can I still put my name in for the juicer giveaway? I just started going to my local health food store for juice and would love to try it at home on my own, ESPECIALLY with this pina, cuke, ginga recipe!!
If you signed up, you’re in!
I have a juicer, but it’s gotten a little bit dusty sitting in the pantry since the end of summer. That colorful orange juice has tempted me to bring it back out though
One of my favorite lines from So I Married an Axe Murderer is when Charlie’s mom is talking about her Garth Brooks Juice Diet! Cracks me up!
Your giveaways are amazing! I love that you have the opportunity to share positive healthy experiences with your readers. Very admirable.
Hey! pineaplle in spanish is piÑa not pina
I know! I just didn’t feel like figuring out how to do the tilde electronically.
mmm your juice looks delicious! I would love to win a juicer and be able to make it
Sometimes biking this time of year can be so cold.
I love soggy nachos, so maybe I would have liked those soggy chips!
Stoked to be in the running for the juicer!
That hummus “scoop” looks delicious! I think your camera got its groove back
Fresh pineapple makes me think of summer… too bad it’s absolutely freezing outside!
Lunch looks fab! And that pineapple looks so fresh, especially at this time of year!
i love looking at the photos of your food because they are absolute works of art! making me hungry
1. I laughed out loud at the jazz hands comment! How fun!!
2. Hummus soup – can’t WAIT to try that!!
3. OH! how I want that juicer!!!!!
One of the best juices I’ve ever had is pineapple and parsley. I know it sounds a little odd but it is so refreshing and delicious! Why haven’t I thought of putting sriracha on hummus? I’m a bit slow and dorky sometimes. I want a soda stream, too. I have this burning desire to figure out how to make chocolate soda.
I could see how that would be good!
What a perfect way to use those leftovers!
DogFish is one of my husband’s favorite breweries also! Super cute glassware
Step is fun-you need to try combat or body attack! Attack is the best workout I have ever had sans trainer.
I follow your newsletter and on Google Reader, but I wanted to enter here too, because I don’t get KERF via e-mail, and I wasn’t sure which you meant!
I was the one asking about the VitaMix, so I’m crossing my fingers for this!!
Beer flavored seltzer? Hilarious!

Ha – I’ll work on it!
Unrelated to this blog post because I am very behind in my blog reading…but thought you might want to read this article with your acronym http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/02/08/is-eat-real-food-unthinkable/?pagemode=print
That’s funny because when I saw the bowl my very first thought was “Oh no, soggy chips!”
I see you have juicing down to an art. How fun! I bet there are some surprises to be had with juicing random fruits and veggies.
I have been telling the hubby that I really need a juicer. You have had some really great giveaways lately!!
WOWZA! Another fab giveaway!! =D
Being from Delaware, I LOVE that you have a Dogfish glass!
I love the Keg full of sparking water! But I cannot lie — the SodaStream was the BEST. Christmas. Gift. EVER! It is so awesome the and the water is seriously so different than any other carbonated water, I wasnt even a fan of carbonated water until the SodaStream!
