Get Lost!

September 18, 2009

Want to find the motivation to run farther than you ever have? Get lost! I set out on a run today with a new/old CD uploaded to my iPod mini that goes back to Freshman year of college. A few of the highlight songs:

  • Walk Of Shame (a capella)
  • Smooth Criminal
  • It’s My Life
  • Life Is A Highway
  • Paradise City
  • Pour Some Sugar On Me
  • Get This Party Started
  • Where The Party At
  • What’s Your Fantasy
  • Peaches n Cream
  • I’m Real
  • Perfect Gentleman
  • Turn Light
  • Calling Baton Rouge
  • Crazy Game Of Poker

Some of these songs were quite sexual and dirty!!

I ventured into a few new neighborhoods and got completely turned around and what was supposed to be 5 miles turned into 7!!!

It’s all good though!

I came home feelin pretty tired in the legs. My run was a slow and steady one. I didn’t even think about my pace – only enjoying the scenery and music.

Fueled up with a little of this Clif Quench sample. Sometimes when I work out hard I feel like a sports drink takes the edge off of my recovery. I’m not sure I’d buy sports drinks in the bottle like this, but if I start running longer distances or doing more hard-core soccer, I might invest in an electrolyte powder to mix into my water bottle (so I could dilute it some and stretch my dollar). I think this Quench comes in canister form, so that’s what I’d get.

The best part about this lunch was that there was almost zero clean-up! Not even a cutting board.

I started with a salad – leftovers from yesterday plus more leftover green beans, tofu and SP fries squirted with lemon juice

Grapes

IMG_2773 (640x427)

A raspberry-acai applesauce by Musselman’s (sample pack!) topped with a few cinnamon almonds and GoLean Crunch -

IMG_2774 (640x427)

And a slice of Flax Oat Bran topped with some raspberry jam. Very fall-like colors in this lunch!

IMG_2768 (640x427)

IMG_2764 (640x427)

To get my whole lunch in the lens, I had to photograph from the side. Or stand on a chair! The new lens is going to force me to take different kinds of photos. I might not be able to do my traditional overview snapshot anymore. I will try some other creative combos -

I still felt hungry afterwards so I dug this little date bar out of the freezer that Karen made a while ago. 15 seconds in the microwave = instant dessert.

Got to watch The Office!! LOVE that show, but I thought the episode was just OK. I like the shows that star Dwight the best :)

Ooooh, I’m going to have to i-tunes some of those, “Pour Some Sugar on Me” would be a great running song! Peaches (Presidents of America) would be a pretty good old school, dirty running song too!

Old school playlists are the best–they get me through many workouts!

Hehe… I think I ended up walking 12 miles in a day once because my dad and I got lost wandering San Fran.

I love that episodes that showcase Dwight. He is such a weirdo, it’s great. We have a Dwight bobblehead, among others. :)

I love date bars. Growing up, my Mom would always make them (from the box mix). Then, when I was in high school, the box mix was discontinued… it was a family tragedy. That is, until I found a great recipe to make from scratch… healthier and more wholesome too, given that it’s not over-processed!

i love lunches that don’t require dirtying dishes!

I did want to ask you Kath, what is your tried and true way to refuel after running?

I got lost too on a run a couple of months ago. It was in the morning before work of all times. I was lucky I had my cell phone with me. I called my husband and he located the streets on google maps and directed me how to get home. I ended up running more than 30 minutes more than planned. Glad you made it home safe!

I often leave the apt. for a run with the intention of getting lost. I’ll go in a general direction and then start exploring neighborhoods or parks. Half the fun is then trying to find my way back. The other half is when I realize that while I thought I was heading back, I’ve actually been heading in the wrong direction…again…

And boy do I miss the HUGE containers of Gatorade powder that use to sit in my pantry as a kid. Those things would last for months….On the same subject, something to keep in mind: while Orange is an average (at best) Gatorade flavor in bottle form, the powder is top of the line…

Oh wow-some of those songs are hilarious! I remember those from middle and high school!

and I am happy that The Office is back as well. I am loving the Thursday night lineup…SNL, Parks & Rec (gotta love Amy Poehler!), The Office and Community (love Joel McHale from the Soup!)

enjoy your day!

I love your breakfast video! You are great on camera!! I haven’t ever tried oatmeal in a smoothie, but if it gets doughy, that sounds like something I’d love!

Happy Friday, Kath! :)

Thanks for the walk down memory lane with the playlist – I haven’t heard Callin’ Baton Rouge since Senior year of College – need to add it to the rotation!

Why the electrolytes? I’ve started training again, and know I really ought to look into that sorta stuff (esp with my love of Bikram!) but sometimes I just think I should be able to get those from the food I eat.

Care to explain? :)

Your running playlist is awesome. I’ve been putting together various playlists for running, lifting, walking… it’s so much fun to put together different combinations of songs :-)

Oh, was I rolling over that Office episode – I love that they film the couple (I am so bad with names) together now. While I could have used more Dwight, those two really made the show!

I love when I go back and listen to playlists that I made years (or even months) ago. It is fun to listen to the oldies! I agree with Sarah — I’m Real is one of my favs too.

Crazy Game of Poker totally reminds me of the year 2000. I was obsessed with that song. Is that when you were a freshman in college?

FYI. The Office was filming today at my husband’s office building. I think he saw some of the actors, but we don’t watch the show. He said something about the secretary.
Pretty cool.

Baha, I often do the “throw back playlist” during workouts. My favorite is when NSync comes on!

How good was that date bar?? Looked incredible!

Ashley,
Crate + Barrel

JENNA,
Yeah, it was good!

Lizzy,
Eat a meal! I time my workouts so that I have breakfast, lunch or dinner right after.

callinae,
Because I did lots of sweating on my run (electrolytes) and the simple sugars in the drink work to replenish quickly to bide me time until I could eat a full meal.

Devan,
Go back a week – I got a Canon Rebel XSI.

VeganTickles,
SO COOL!!
