Full Gas Tank

October 7, 2009

That tank would be me! Do not eat more than a cup of brussels sprouts in one sitting!!!

[Remember this image anyone!?]

Brussels sprouts

Not much to report other than I aced my third test with a third 97. What’s up with the numbers this semester?!? I can’t complain though ;)

All food from the previous post was eaten happily. It was all delicious.

However, this is why I am a not a grazer: I ate my apple on the way to Winthrop, then confirmed my negative TB test and finally got to eat my veggies + bread at 2PM. I was still hungry after waiting a little after that and had my yogurt at 3:30.

Point of the story is that despite eating constantly, I was basically hungry from 12-3:30. Granted it wasn’t the biggest lunch ever, had I eaten it all at once I would have not had to experience hunger that whole time! Or thought about food. My body just likes bigger meals. Sometimes I do wish I could be a grazer. It’s fun to nibble away.

Thinking about going to bed early. It’s dark and scary down here. I’m loving the Time Traveler’s Wife now that I’m nearing the end (I’ve been reading a chapter a night or so, so that’s why it’s taken me so long to get through!). Can’t wait to see the movie!

Goodnight

I’ve been waiting for my mom to finish that book so I can read it. I didn’t see the movie either!

Yikes … I ate an enormous amount of roasted cauliflower tonight, and I fear the same problem!

Congrats on the great grades!

I’m not a grazer, either. I run a lot, and when I’m hungry, I need a MEAL. And the better-rounded my meals are, the less I go for junk.

Mmmmm….love the sprouts.

I enjoyed the book, but the movie…not so much.

Have a great night!

I am a grazer, I admit it! However, I try to make it “good” grazing food! Yup, brussels will do that to ya! :)

I had to read that book twice! I still haven’t seen the movie though! Have a great night

Yes, those brussels will certainly fight back if you eat too many! I become a bloated wreck if I overdo it!

They are so tasty roasted in the oven, though!

7 Graze With Me October 7, 2009 at 7:36 pm

I’ve always taken the grazing route throughout my day but have noticed that on weekends I do just fine with a large brunch, small late lunch and dinner. No snacks.

I still like eating my meals in pieces though – it’s fun to always have something to look forward to every couple hours. :)

Congrats on the test! And I hear you. I’ve been living off of beans from the dining hall this week and have felt so bad for people near me at the treadmills

But I LOVE brussels sprouts!
I can’t ‘graze’ either, but full meals don’t always sit with me. I love having LOTS of mini meals- more substantial than grazing, but I’m never hungry when I eat 5-6 meals in a day!

I agree. I need 3 bigger meals, and at least two snacks a day. When I graze I am always hungry! Enjoy the rest of the Time Traveler’s Wife! It’s one of my all-time favorite books!

I just got the notice that my Time Traveler’s Wife came into the library for me finally! I’ve had it on hold FOREVER. I can’t wait to dig into it. The movie was fab :)

Grazing for me doesn’t work. I have to schedule eating or I am constantly wondering when I’ll eat next.

I’m glad you like the book. The movie is slightly different but still wonderful!

I’m not a grazer, either. I like big meals much better than eating little bits here and there. It leaves me unsatisfied for some reason.

Heheheh – I love to graze as well but I need a “bigger” meal every few hours too!

I have Time Traveler’s Wife on my bookshelf – I need to pick it up.

Congrats on the test! My mom calls me a grazer because I am so bad about not eating actual meals. I have gotten better but I still eat like a cow munching all day long!

Kath, Once again I have learned something from your blog…1st it was gourmet oatmeal, then there was kale chips and your delicious butternut squash kale soup…I had no idea I even liked kale and now, maple syrup on brussle sprouts! I have always liked them roasted, and tonight I added just a few teaspoons and it carmelized up beautifully and added the perfect amount of sweetness.

This my friend is why today I voted for your blog under all the categories that it was nominated for on Foodbuzz!

Thanks again!

ok ok you have gotten me to try all kinds of things…tonight I came up with a concoction with lentils, I have never had them before but it was AMAZING
I combine whole grain rice with lentils cooked seperatly and added together with crushed black pepper and a table spoon of honey….

beside grilled chicken….
lentils ARE good.

I’m listening to the audio version of that book right now, and I really like it so far. I think having two readers (male & female) probably makes it easier to follow on audio vs. reading. I actually listen to a lot of audiobooks (free downloads from the library!) these days – good for driving and working around the house!

I learned the hard way this summer that eating smaller meals more often may work for some people, but not for this chick! I feel deprived and hungry all day… like I’ve never eaten a full mean. In turn, I overeat! I’m a three round meals and 1-2 snacks kind of girl!

Reply

35 Nicole October 7, 2009 at 9:54 pm

Some days I feel the need to graze and other days 3 well rounded meals is what I need.

I just saw Audrey Niffenegger’s new book at Barnes called “Her Fearful Symmetry” which sounds great! It’s a mystery about two sisters who inherit their aunt’s apartment in London, with a few conditions attached.

That is a good point about grazing. I never thought about it but I tend to lose more weight when I don’t graze, and that is probably why (as they say, “I can’t get no satisfaction”)!!

I’m about to start that book too. Right now I’m reading the 2nd twilight book (i know, i’m too old for that!) but the Time Traveler’s Wife will be next. Can’t wait!! :-)

It has taken a really long time (like all my life) to finally FINALLY in the last 2 months realize that I, like you, need a good sized meal to feel satisfied. This nibble pick thing just was not working for me. Metabolism be damned- I’d rather be full and happy!

I agree with you on the grazing front. It doesn’t matter how much I eat, if I haven’t sat down for a meal then I still want to eat a full meal later on anyway.

Great job on the test!

I hear you, I definitely have to keep my brussels to one small serving. Congrats on the test scores!

My body can go either way, depending on the day an my activity. Sometimes I like big meals, sometimes I just need to graze. Each day I never know which it will be ;-)

Kath, I DON’T recognize that photo. I don’t get it? When is it from? I like brussel sprouts a lot but I noticed they kind of smell like sweaty socks. Did you ever notice that? It’s almost like they break down or something when cooked. I still love them anyway, gas tanks or not hahahaha

Good luck finishing the story… it’s definitely an emotional ending!

MMM I love brussel sprouts. It’s so sad when you have to limit yourself to such delicious foods to minimize the uh…side effects :) You have some willpower, girl! to only read 1 chapter a night – I usually turbo through a book. I try to slow down but they are usually so darn good I can’t stop!
