From My Back Porch Looking In

November 19, 2011

Saturdays are so fun because the crew is home resting and I can USE the porch!! It is getting very close to completion!! Maybe another week or so – a bit unpredictable with the holiday. Our new front door should be coming this week, but the back door had an ordering problem, so it’s about a week behind. We also have lots of painting and staining to do, although we need to wait on some of the staining so the floor wood can cure.

We’re going for rustic barn meets Craftsman cottage. Our designer, Andres, did an amazing job!

I requested very shallow and wide steps…they are a DREAM to walk up and down!! SO much better than our rickety cement steps of yestermonth.

And beadboard!!

The beginnings of paint! We’re doing white on all the upper parts. For ultimate beach cottage feel.

I cannot believe we get to live on this porch. It is so much grander than I ever could have imagined, and I thank Andres’s strategic design for that!

Luckily my oats didn’t get cold while I photographed the porch. Because they were already chilled!

Simple overnight oats with banana, sunflower butter, chia and crumbled Hungry Bar.

Choffy!! Much more like hot chocolate than coffee. But nice and roasty!

Your back porch looks amazing already! LOVE the doors, they’re awesome. Can’t wait to see the finished product.

It’s so beautiful! Is that screening in the openings, or will it be glass? Or both? It looks like screen in the photos but I’m not sure.
Love the white paint!

7 KathEats November 19, 2011 at 10:04 am

All screens!

A screened in back porch! My dream!!!

21 Anna November 19, 2011 at 11:03 am

With every new picture of your porch, I get a little more jealous! It looks terrific. What are the dimensions? (it is required by law for me to ask that, because both my parents are architects)

22 KathEats November 19, 2011 at 2:37 pm

:) Ha. It’s 16 x 13!

23 Antonia @ healthinspirations November 19, 2011 at 11:05 am

Love the porch! We are thinking of redoing our porch/patio next summer and this throws a whole ‘nother option into it! I love a covered porch.

Comment 26! 😉

31 KathEats November 19, 2011 at 2:38 pm

32 Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin November 19, 2011 at 12:02 pm

It’s looking great! It’s too bad that it’s just getting finished as the cold weather is setting in. You must be so anxious for the summer to come so that you can use it everyday! 😀

33 Meagan November 19, 2011 at 12:26 pm

That’s so beautiful Kath!

34 Roxanne November 19, 2011 at 12:44 pm

I think it looks a whole lot better than my 4X4 porch….. LOL

35 Cait's Plate November 19, 2011 at 12:49 pm

Have you ever had Choffy on OpenSky? If not…I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing that deal! 😉

Wowzers! What a perfect place to read a book and sip tea. The vaulted ceilings and beadboard put it in the category “over the top amazing.”

47 Alaina November 19, 2011 at 5:23 pm

Beautiful porch! And I love the song that your title came from. :-)

48 Lea @ Healthy Coconut November 19, 2011 at 6:06 pm

I always wanted to live in a house with a porch. I live in SoCal and I didn’t see a lot of houses while growing up with porches but I do see them when I travel elsewhere. I would love a porch like that in the future. Love the extension of the outdoors but within the comforts of your own home.

49 Samantha November 19, 2011 at 6:26 pm

What I’m wondering is about the gap above the doors. Isn’t the point of the screen to keep the bugs out? I do love the way the sliding doors look though…

50 KathEats November 19, 2011 at 8:17 pm

It will be screened!

51 S November 20, 2011 at 9:32 am

The little 1-2 inch gap….will be screened? I guess I’ll just wait and see it! Gonna be sweet!

52 Amanda November 19, 2011 at 6:27 pm

That Choffy sounds amazing. I just went and ordered my own. I’ve been wanting something hot chocolate like without all the added sugar. Hopefully this will be a great substitute!

53 Gina @ Running to the Kitchen November 19, 2011 at 8:19 pm

That porch is a food bloggers dream! I love the bead board. So cottage/beachy feeling :)

54 Katie @ Talk Less, Say More November 19, 2011 at 9:42 pm

It’s coming along quite nicely!!

55 Michaela November 19, 2011 at 10:00 pm

56 Julie November 20, 2011 at 1:14 am

59 Julia H. @ The Petite Spiel November 20, 2011 at 4:35 pm

Ooooh it’s going to be SO nice! I’d probably spend every minute out there…even in the cold. Hello space heaters, blankets, and hand warmers!

60 JenATX November 20, 2011 at 5:43 pm

i have a question if you don’t mind me asking- did your rent go up at all? Its such a nice porch and an investment for the owners so I was wondering if they passed any of the cost along to yall… hopefully not!

61 KathEats November 20, 2011 at 5:45 pm

Jen did you miss that we bought the house!? We moved in in September.
