Food In The Fridge

IMG_0323

I spent a good hour at the grocery store today getting things for the week. I had to look at all the prices and labels to ensure I was getting the most cost efficient yet healthiest option. It’s tough when you don’t have time to go to 5 different stores hunting the best deal. I received a few coupons from Quaker as a holiday gift to try some of their other brands – like Near East – and I picked up a few boxes of couscous mixes that I’m excited to try. I also got 3 boxes of Oatmeal Squares. We have so much cold cereal in the house right now that I feel like I should eat at least 1 bowl a week for breakfast. Maybe on Wednesdays when I have class from 9am-9pm and need to get to the gym before I leave the house as well.

Tonight’s recipe is unfortunately a mystery. I’m developing a recipe each month for a project that I can unveil to you all in just a few weeks – and you’ll be able to see all the recipes on the web this time! Just not quite yet ;)

This one was a winner!

We’re on the couch watching The Dutchess, which Karen brought over. You guys know how I love historical films!! We took a break to clean the kitchen and blog and my time is up!

I so went over budget this week food shopping! I spent entirely too much. It is really difficult some weeks to stay within my grocery budget so I get what you are saying.

stop by my blog!

Kath,
That looks scrumptious! Quick question…what is your favorite flavor of LaraBar? I’ve never tried one before, and can’t decide where to start!

I know what you mean about the grocery store deliberation! Probably 3/4 of the time I spend there is me holding two+ containers and thinking, this one is 30 cents less, but this one has fewer ingredients, but this one has more protein, but this one …

Hooray for food-shopping and the “mystery recipe” meal!! :-)

It is time consuming to always hunt down the best deals. I live in a wonderful place that is within 1 mile of 2 conventional grocery stores, a Whole Foods, and a Trader Joe’s.

Can’t wait to see that recipe, because I can see many favorite ingredients.

Meaghan, if you are new to Larabars, I would recommend the Cashew Cookie, Peanut Butter Cookie (seems to be the most popular), or if you can find it, Chocolate Coconut – that’s the best but hard to find!

Kath – I love Near East brand stuff but I didn’t know it was related to Quaker. Huh! Always learning something new from you! :) I made the pumpkin chocolate chip bars from this site again today – I can’t get them out of my mind – they are soo good!!

Your comments all made me smile!

Meaghan,
Here’s a post where I ranked them. I’d add Pistachio along with Apple Pie. I have yet to try Banana Bread but it’s coming up!

Your dinner looks so comforting, and not to creamy!

We tend to shop places that we can buy in bulk. Our WF has a great section were we can get our grains. They also have a bulk veggie section, great for odd portions!

Hey Kath
If you want a warm bfast but need to use up cold cereals, try warming up the milk!

jennifer ,
I said in the post that I had coupons for free boxes.

Mel,
Great idea! I’ve done that before but need to remember it for morning cereal too.

Yelena ,
He’s usually pretty agreeable. I’ve watched some of the more action/male movies lately and he’s watched the feminine ones. But he’s not always that agreeable with TV shows!

We just watched The Dutchess the other night. It was really good. Got me a bit angry but it was a good movie. Guess it was really a man’s world back then.

I am glad the rest of your evening went better/smoother than your morning and afternoon :) Some days just seem to go haywire like that!
I was wondering – how do you like Larabars versus Luna Bars. I have always eaten Luna’s and never tried Lara’s before, but after all the talk about how wonderful the Lara Bars are, I might just need to give them a shot! Are they nutritionally equal; how do they compare in cost? Thanks!

I definitely prefer LaraBars. They feel more like real food and I enjoy the crumbly texture, which I take a long time to nibble through. I like Luna bars, but find them a little sweet for me, and they are not as natural.
