Laura- not sure if you will see this but I'm from the states and have lived in Dublin for 2 and a half years- so I'm in the same boat in not being able to get some things here! I always bring my lunch to work here even though no one else does because I can't do those prepackaged triangular sandwiches!
Anyway, Kath- love the blog! I never post but read daily!

Hi Laura! I replied to your post in Kath's 'breakfast smoothie post" but I am from Birmingham! I know exactly what you mean about large portions of wine and hard to find healthy foods. I find it exciting to know that someone who reads this blog also lives in the UK. I want to get to London sometime to go to the Wholefoods.. are things really that pricy there?

Kath- that sounds like a fantastic sampling. I hope you enjoyed every moment!

On the comments on your blog, you are such a dutiful "answerer," so thank you! And, personally, I kind of like some of the personal tidbits like finding out where you got cute housewares of seeing wedding pictures. I think this healthy eating blogging community is a really supportive and positive one, and showing support and interest in things other than the food itself is just a product of that.

Thanks to all of you for being such a great group, especially Kath!

Ouch, sorry, I just thought the CFA was some crafty Kath acronym, not something Google worthy. On the plus side, I don't care where Kath bought any of her clothing.

I normally read all the comments before posting mine, "mais" today I didn't, and yesterday I had people coming over for the St. Jean, Quebec`s National Day, and was busy , so didn`t get the KERF pill. Now, I came back to read the comments and I see a lot of action. It`s funny how each of us knows he/she is right. It reminds me of my son's last words before going to bed tonight : "Mommy is mine!" and my daughter who was waiting for her kiss said, "No, she's mine." And they both believe they're right, but they are only kids. Let's grow up, guys!

Heather ,
No, this was my first time having them. I tried one of the fake sausages once and thought it was gross, but these were great! I can't wait to try them at home.

BethT ,
Unfortunately - no! It was the one sample I threw out :( It was just kind of gummy to me.

Emily + Courty ,
It was about 2 cups chopped broccoli plus onion (I don't recommend those!) and garlic sauteed. Then you make the "egg" part with 1 block firm Nasoya tofu, 1/2 C milk, 3 tbsp parmesan cheese grated, tsp mustard, tsp cayanne, 1/2 tsp salt. Blend together in blender and pour over veggies in a pre-cooked store-bought crust (the tofu was thick so we had to press it in). Bake for 40 minutes at 400*. I'll try it sometime and do a formal recipe, but that should get you there.

laura ,
Thanks so much :) I studied in Cambridge for a summer and LOVE England. You're so right about the "extra large" size glasses of wine. I miss those! The husband has never been to England and we really want to go, but we've got a lot of saving to do first.

KrisT ,
I second KatieTX. It really varies - even from your own self. I've burned anywhere from 350 to 500 depending on length and intensity, but most classes I'm probably around 450 or so. I'd lean more towards 8 kcal/min. But that's just me.

KrisT--There are so many variations because it depends on so many factors! Age and heart rate, how hard you are working(interval or endurance class), how much you weigh, and length of the class. Usually I go by 10 calories/minute if it is a moderately intense class.I burn 500 for a 50 min ride and about 350 for a 30 min ride because it is usually intervals.

Hi Kath,

I have a quick exercise question. I've heard and read so many different answers, and i wanted to know your 2 cents. About how many calories would an average person burn in an hour spinning class?

** anyone else feel free to answer.. Thanks!

BethT,

I did not mean my comment the way that you took it. I said nothing about Kath - I love her blog - nor did I call anyone stupid or incapable. Honestly, I wasn't trying to be hostile in any way. I was merely expressing my frustration at the frequency with which questions whose answers are quite easily found get posted. That's all.

Ok, I accidentally posted on the earlier post - but just wanted to see if anyone that reads this lives in London? I am from San Francisco but have lived in London for 2 1/2 years. Living here is so different food wise than it is at home. They've got crazy options - pretty much only prepackaged sandwiches and sushi for lunch, for example. And none of the same brands that you girls talk about like Kashi. And although they've opened up a Whole Foods in Kensington, I am not impressed with it. I prefer Waitrose. Anyway, just wanted to say I LOVE reading this blog and am addicted - while I love living here I miss certain things about living in the U.S. Reading this each day reminds me of home. Plus it is great for health - Kath is amazing and I am pretty confident she is going to become famous in the next few years - she'll have her own show on the food network or she'll have a cookbook, probably both! Anyway, just wanted to post this, because I am really enjoying the blog (not so much all the weird arguing in the past 2 posts) but generally it is great. Thanks Kath, keep it up. xx
