Food Cures

November 5, 2009

Blog was down for a few hours this evening – thanks DreamHost  It’s now 3AM and I woke up in a panic that something was wrong. LOL – had to come down and post!! Back to bed!

Kelsey and I wrapped up our studying and were on our way. I grabbed a few snacks for the afternoon!

Honeycrisp. Best apple bag of my life. I ate it at 5:00 just before my test!

IMG_7574 (640x427)

And a fruit leather by Stretch Island Fruit Company that I got as a sample lately. I’m not the biggest fan of fruit leathers in general, but this one was very good and all natural and great fuel for my study walk. Lauri and I walked for about 50 minutes while going over our notes one last time.

IMG_7576 (640x427)

Lastly, a new Bear Naked Grain-ola Bar, which I also ate at 5:00 before my test and shared with my friends.

IMG_7572 (640x427)

This bar is so new it doesn’t have a label yet! But if it did…here’s what it would look like:

IMG_7581 (640x427)

It was awesome. Like a chewy oatmeal cookie. I couldn’t get a clear photo with my phone, but here’s the general contents:

photo

Kelsey loved it

IMG_7578 (640x427)

Test went well!!

A few hours later I came home to find Matt cooking!! Clearly he’s feeling (and looking!) better. Here’s the icing contraption we worked out involving a stretch band and a black sock!

IMG_7582 (640x427)

I made a POM + Tonic mocktail to sip while we cooked

IMG_7584 (640x427)

IMG_7585 (640x427)

Dinner was a repeat!

Baked Potato Soup

Coined as one of my top 5 best soups!

IMG_7593 (640x427)

Tonight’s version was made exactly like the first and was delish!

IMG_7597 (640x427)

Enjoyed on a tray while watching the movie Be Kind Rewind, which I did not find very good and left in the middle to blog. Matt‘s enjoying it though!

IMG_7588 (640x427)

Mid-way through the movie we broke for a little dessert brought over by Mama Karen for the patient! I’m not sure whose day it brightened more: mine or his!

IMG_7600 (640x427)

She found this gelato at Fresh Market, and there is nothing light about it!

IMG_7601 (640x427)

But it was some of the best iced.cream. I have ever tasted!!! Especially with a VeggieGirl Brownie Points Outsider on the side! SO fudgy. SO chewy!

IMG_7603 (640x427)

Served with hot tea to counter the chill

IMG_7609 (640x427)

Nothing makes things better like ice cream! Looking better by the minute:

IMG_7607 (640x427)

Off to catch the end of the movie and get cozy for bed. Tomorrow is all about packing and gearing up for this trip. SO. EXCITED.

That soup looks SO good! Sounds very comforting and cozy on a chilly fall night. Yummy!

Ice cream is the perfect ending to any kind of day. :)

Matt is looking less puffy — yay! Poor fella!

I am so glad Matt is doing better! That last photo was really scary when he couldn’t open his eyes :( Poor guy. He’s looking so much better!

I think honey crisps are the best variety of apple this year! I haven’t been disappointed by any of the ones I’ve had.

Glad to see Matt’s feeling and looking better… the ice cream sounds awesome.

So glad he is doing better!

Potato soup is my fave. It is so delish. We have that gelato at my grocery store and I’ve had it a few times. It is sooooo good.

Yay!! SO glad he is doing much better. Phew, I was nervous for you! Glad your test went well! I have never really liked fruit leathers until this year. I guess when you find a good one, you can be hooked! The perfect amount of fruity sweetness. :)

That gelato looks amazing!

I remember reading that you like Biscoff biscuits, and was wondering if you’ve ever tried Lotus Caramelized Biscuit spread? It sounds a bit strange, but it really tastes like Biscoffs, just in spread form. It’s probably not so healthy, but I’ve been using a little in my morning oatmeal (instead of pb), and on waffles :)

You have no idea how glad I am to hear that Matt is doing much better. I was so worried. Really, I was checking your page all day for updates. Poor guy! But you are right, he is looking sooooo much better. Thank GOODNESS!!!

I LOVE the Bare Naked Bars. The Tropical is also lovely but I’m not sure how I feel about the Chocolate Cherry. I think I’m just not a fan of a chocolatey granola bar but if you try it, let me know what you think.

Have a great day! Good luck on the exams.

Aw yay, glad to see Matt is doing better. That bear naked bar looks really good! Hope the price scale isn’t based off their bags of granola, you’d think there was flecks of gold in there or something :P

I’ve been following your blog for a while now, but this is the perfect moment to post a comment! I see you have a Chimay beer glass, that’s belgian beer! (I’m a proud belgian… :-) )
I didn’t know it was exported to the US!
And the Lotus Caramelized Biscuit spread suggested by Jun, you really must give it a try. It’s a belgian product also! :-) It is full of calories but soooo good… It was first produced only a little while ago and since then a huge success here.

Gosh, I can’t help feeling so badly for Matt! I can imagine how uncomfortable he is feeling with that swelling!

Kath! I actually just posted that granola bar on twitter! I love it! It’s my new favorite bar. My mom actually found them at Costco, and for a huge box they were a really good price. Can’t wait to meet you tomorrow, so excited for San Fran :)

That soup looks fabulous! Do you think you could use all skim milk instead of buttermilk, or does that really change the flavor and consistency? Maybe use a little 1/2 and 1/2 to offset the loss of fat?

And HOLY YUM! That gelato looks to die for. It really doesn’t get much better than “Caramel Cookie Crunch”…except when you add a Veggie Girl Brownie Point!! So jealous right now…

Re. Bars: Maybe Bear Naked was just cleaning out their cabinets!

Jun,
Oh my….sounds amazing!

Stefanie,
Chimay is delicious! Love the glasses too :) Hope I can visit Belgium someday!

Hi Kelly!

Sophie,
I think you could omit the buttermilk. I would use 2% milk if you do, although I bet it would be just fine with skim.

Hahahaha…I actually have my name in the credits of Be Kind Rewind despite not really working on it at all. Long story. I’ve never actually seen the film myself! From the little snippets I’ve seen, it didn’t seem like my cup of tea.

That gelato looks ridiculous. I always see it at the store and don’t splurge…but I think I might have to now. ;)

I just had that Bear Naked bar 2 days ago and I liked it but I didn’t like that it was refined sugar free EXCEPT for the cranberries-that seemed stupid to me.
