Went on a nice walk with The Strong Mama today, followed by a yoga class at our gym. The walk was great, but the yoga class was not. The only part of me that got a workout was my concentration (which is good!)

I got home just before dinnertime to find Matt getting a head start "for the sun." So nice of him! We just caught it again tonight.

On the menu: Roasted Apple Sausage, Roasted Potatoes and Braised Cabbage

For me?

Wait, you mean this isn’t for drinking?!

Cabbage braised in beer!

Here is the recipe page: Beer Braised Cabbage. The sweet brown beer sauce was REALLY good!!

Brace yourself…

…."They call him, Flipper, Flipper, faster than lightening. No one you see, is smarter than he!" Do you see him!?

For dessert, we tried the these Ghiradelli Luxe Milk chocolates sent via the Foodbuzz Tastemaker Program. I loved the hazelnut one – reminded me of hazelnut butter love!! I have to say though, I really don’t love milk chocolate anymore. Bring it on dark! Hazelnut + dark would be dreamy. Still, these were great after a good meal Thumbs up

I have to be up early tomorrow to travel to Richmond for a dietetics day. Might have juuuuust enough time to squeeze in a movie first!

Yum yum yum!
It’s time I hop on the roasting train… tomorrow’s dinner!

3 lynn (The Actors Diet) October 19, 2010 at 7:02 pm

that beer braised cabbage sounds delightful! just posted the recipe on my facebook fan page so i can remember to go back to it later!

4 Chelsea @ Strawberry Sweat October 19, 2010 at 7:10 pm

I love the picture of Flipper in the beer! So fun :)

I love the idea of beer braised cabbage–perfect for fall!

5 Di October 19, 2010 at 7:15 pm

Sounds yum, although I’d have to do the braising in something else, as beer is a major migraine trigger for me. We had apple sausage for dinner tonight too – the chicken/apple one from Aidell’s. So tasty, with mashed red lentils, a very KERFish dinner, if I do say so.

The lentils are super easy – I followed the directions on the bag!

6 Mads October 20, 2010 at 12:38 am

I’ve been on a chicken sausage kick too!
We made pizza tonight, but plain with some veggies on the side sounds delightful.

7 Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine October 19, 2010 at 7:16 pm

Mmm hazelnut dark chocolate is the best…though milk chocolate sounds like it would be pretty good too :) Hope you have a great night!!

8 Krystina (Organically Me) October 19, 2010 at 7:19 pm

Haha I see Flipper! You’re cute. :)

9 Amanda (Eating Up) October 19, 2010 at 7:19 pm

I’m a huge fan of sausage and anything roasted. Sausage and veggies are my go-to dinner probably.

10 christina cadden October 19, 2010 at 7:19 pm

mm, it looks so good!

11 Mom October 19, 2010 at 7:21 pm

Flipper! Do you remember watching? Those were fun days!

12 Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) October 19, 2010 at 7:25 pm

I love Ghiradelli — used to buy the brownie mix all the time in high school but haven’t tried it in years.

13 Anna S @ History Running Girl October 19, 2010 at 7:25 pm

I see flipper!!

Your dinner looks delicious. I used to like the yoga at my gym, but after going to a studio, I don’t like it anymore.

14 Lisa @bakebikeblog October 19, 2010 at 7:35 pm

What a great way to use beer!

15 Jessica @ How Sweet It Is October 19, 2010 at 7:37 pm

16 Lauren October 19, 2010 at 7:38 pm

You are seriously the queen of these food symbolisms. How freaky!!!!

Sorry that yoga didn’t meet your expectations tonight. At least dinner did. Looks fantastic! :)

19 Kath October 19, 2010 at 8:53 pm

Yay and yes!

20 Mary @ Bites and Bliss October 19, 2010 at 7:42 pm

Cabbage and roasted potatoes are my favorite! So simple, so satisfying…well satisfying if it’s paired with a little protein..but you know what I mean 😛

21 Cathy B. @ Bright Bakes October 19, 2010 at 7:45 pm

mouth watering supper! and I see we share an affinity for dipping things! :) I agree…sausage hasta have some mustard, and roasted potatoes need the ketchup. Yummy.

I totally see Flipper! That’s so weird.

23 holly @ couchpotatoathlete October 19, 2010 at 7:50 pm

haha! I see Flipper :) Makes me wonder what kind of shapes or tv stars I could see in my beer!

24 Macrae Carreker October 19, 2010 at 8:01 pm

There is dark chocolate with hazelnuts! Ritter sport makes a great chocolate bar (or square) with huge hazelnuts in it. I hope you can find some!

25 Marisa @ Loser for Life October 19, 2010 at 8:02 pm

Mmmm…I’m making roasted potatoes tomorrow! Love em :)

26 Maddie October 19, 2010 at 8:03 pm

27 Hannah October 19, 2010 at 8:04 pm

Beer-braised cabbage – what a brilliant idea!

28 Camille October 19, 2010 at 8:08 pm

Dolphins are my favorite animals :)

31 Susan Mc October 19, 2010 at 8:09 pm

Saw Flipper!! Your meal looks amazing, LOVE every dish!

32 Jamie @ Food in Real Life October 19, 2010 at 8:09 pm

FLIPPER! Hilarious!

I had roasted potatoes on the side of my dinner too. Love em!

33 Erin@ Shortcut to Bliss October 19, 2010 at 8:21 pm

I love your table on the front porch. Mine is wrought iron on the patio and I think wood is definitely the way to go.

34 Angela (the diet book junkie) October 19, 2010 at 8:49 pm

agreed: dark chocolate is THE BEST. actually scratch that, chilli chocolate is, but dark is a close second. :)

35 chelsey @ clean eating chelsey October 19, 2010 at 8:50 pm

I had to do a double take, but I see flipper! Crazy!

36 J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) October 19, 2010 at 8:56 pm

I do see Flipper!! You have a lot of frothy friends, lol.

37 Ashley October 19, 2010 at 9:05 pm

I’m kind of scared that flipper is in your beer!!! Eeeek! Also, I did not like the milk chocolate..blegh! Way too sweet :)

38 Cara Craves... October 19, 2010 at 9:10 pm

Who knew beer watching could be as exciting as cloud watching ?!

39 Alayna @ Thyme Bombe October 19, 2010 at 9:11 pm

Holy Crap there is a marine mammal swimming in your beer!

40 Kristen @ Kristen, Sweetly October 19, 2010 at 9:15 pm

Sometimes the concentration is all I need for a good yoga class! I hope your next one leaves you shaky and tired, just like you like. :-)

Dinner looks great, but I think my favorite part was the dolphin in the beer. And I wish I were more refined with my chocolate loves, but they all agree with me so, so much.

41 Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday October 19, 2010 at 9:32 pm

Braised in Beer?? That sounds awesome!

42 Laughter-Loving Stacy October 19, 2010 at 9:36 pm

Oh, I will put that on the menu this weekend! And I totally see flipper :)

43 Jessica @ The Process of Healing October 19, 2010 at 9:43 pm

That meal sounds incredible in pretty much every way.. reminds me I haven’t had cabbage in AGES!

44 Kasey October 19, 2010 at 10:09 pm

It totally looks like Flipper!!!
PS- loving the pics from the new lens :)

45 Liz @ Tip Top Shape October 19, 2010 at 10:09 pm

Your meals always impress me! You take simple ingredients and then do such interesting things with them. That apple sausage sounds delicious!!

46 Allie October 19, 2010 at 10:13 pm

I feel the same way about milk vs dark chocolate! I’ve gotten on such a dark chocolate kick the past few years that milk just isn’t the same. Hazelnut + dark does sound like a yummy combo!

47 maya @ finding balance in tokyo October 19, 2010 at 10:30 pm

I used to be obsessed with flipper when I was younger! Spending part of my time growing up on an island in Belize sure didn’t help with that. I think I kept up a constant lookout for a while just in case he decided to stop by. 😀

48 Alaina @ The Jogging Concierge October 19, 2010 at 10:47 pm

That is so weird, I totally see it!

49 Diana @ frontyardfoodie October 19, 2010 at 11:03 pm

Now that is what I call a for reals Oktoberfest meal! Complete with mustard and beer. Love it.

Your rosemary photo makes me want to run to my herb garden and harvest.

50 Jean@RoastedRootsandPumpkinSpice October 20, 2010 at 4:39 am

This is truly a comfort meal. Perfect for this season. I never braised anything in beer before. I must try it!

51 Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) October 20, 2010 at 5:10 am

I see Flipper! He’s got that smile and everything…haha. 😀

Your meal looks fabulous! I love dinners like that. Simple but delicious. 😀

52 Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) October 20, 2010 at 6:14 am

I love cooking with beer! It really gives things such a great flavor! Dinner looks delicious!

53 Erika @ Food, Fitness, & Fun October 20, 2010 at 6:22 am

Mmmm. That looks like such a comfort food/fall lunch…YUMMY! <3

54 Annie@stronghealthyfit October 20, 2010 at 6:38 am

That meal looks amazing! I keep forgetting to use the cooling rack when roasting potatoes. i don’t like milk choco anymore either! Been eating 70-80% dark chocolate :-)

55 Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin October 20, 2010 at 6:55 am

I had roasted potatoes with my dinner last night too. I love that they are so simple but so delicious! What seasonings do you use for yours?

56 Andrea October 20, 2010 at 7:35 am

Milk chocolate is like a high school boyfriend who you just cannot see ever dating again even though you loved him madly at the time because now you are really into mature men (dark chocolate). At least, that’s how I feel about it. Milk chocolate no long has any appeal to me, bring me the DARK chocolate. The darker, the better!

57 Paula October 20, 2010 at 7:51 am

Flipper is the best so far!

58 Natalia - a side of simple October 20, 2010 at 9:55 am

Aw man I am such a fan of Flipper! Oh Sandy…..

59 Suzanne S. October 20, 2010 at 1:07 pm

Could you tell me at what temp and how long you cooked the sausage/potatoes?
I have never roasted sausage in the oven (I’ve always cooked it on the stovetop).

Also, what brand of apple sausage did you use?

60 Kath October 20, 2010 at 1:28 pm

400* for 30 minutes, I believe.

Don’t have the squash brand with me…it’s an organic one from Whole Foods

61 Suzanne S. October 20, 2010 at 2:39 pm

Thanks, Kath! Did you mean you don’t know the brand of sausage? (you wrote ‘squash’) :)

When you say organic brand from Whole Foods – do you mean a brand that is sold at Whole Foods or specifically the Whole Foods brand itself (365 Organics)?

I shop at Whole Foods every week and haven’t found a sausage I love yet. So was just curious! Thanks!
