FIVE are the number of pairs of shoes I have packed for a two-day weekend.
FIVE are the number of miles I ran in my new Asics this morning!
and
FIVE is the number of times I have unplugged and reset our internet router with NO LUCK
Damn you AT&T!!!
But three cheers for the “network” wireless connection that I somehow have access to (only on my laptop)
I decided for time’s sake to go running this morning. It’s always a shorter workout because my workout starts when I step out the door! I ran 5 miles in the dark (being careful to choose the most well-lit and well-traveled by runners path). I feel like I’ve lost some of my speed!! My legs just won’t move as fast, but perhaps that was the effect of the walking lunges I did yesterday. Splits were in the 8:50-9:00 range.
I felt like I was just getting in a groove when I pulled back into our cul-de-sac at 4.75 miles. Bummer I was out of time! My new shoes did great – I could feel my bones slightly shifting to adjust to them. Hope I have my best run ever on Sunday!
I ran straight into the shower and then straight down to whip up some OIAJ
Ohhhh yeaaaaahhhh
[I was sure to let it cool slightly before pouring the oats into the jar because Lynn says this jar has melted on her before.]
The Mix
- 1/4 cup oats
- 2 tbsp Bob’s Red Mill Cinnamon Apple Hot Cereal
- 1/4 cup milk
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
- A pinch of banana (as I froze one)
- 1/3 cup pumpkin
- Cinnamon, vanilla, pinch salt

- Dark Choco Dreams residue!
Before the weekend starts, don’t forget your Kodiak Cakes mix! It’s only 15% off this week.

I love the dark chocolate dreams flavor of pb & co peanut butter. And what a good idea to have your oats in the jar. Love it! Hope you have a fun two day trip!
Your oats quite possibly, look like they could rival my delicious breakfast this morning
nothin beats OIAJ!!
I had a week of my legs feeling like c*** last week – I’d recommend you take a few easy days/up your carb intake – that’s what I did and it worked a treat
Have a good day!
Your oats look good.. but somehow I am craving coffee this am.
Have a safe drive.
i would take you “slow runs” any day! no matter how hard I try, I am just NOT a runner – at least I can admit it
have a safe drive!
What a delicious breakfast! I bet dark choc dreams was amazing. I hope you have a wonderful time at the wedding/vow renewal this weekend. I love weddings and spending time with friends.
Happy Friday, Kath!
Probably the leg workout you had made your legs a bit heavier this morning. But at least they loosened up and finally caught up with your mental run by mile 4.75, even though it was the final stretch.
Do you have a race this weekend or a long run?
10 miles on Sun
Five is the name of my old cat (RIP) ! Happy driving and happy weekend, Kath!
Awwww
Those OIAJ look really good!!! Mmmmm!
5 shoes?! I only have 2 pairs even at college
Dark chocolate dreams makes the best OIAJ!
I think I’m picking up some of that Dark Chocolate Dreams this weekend. It just looks too dang good!
Hi, Kath.
Speaking of Kodiak cakes – does your online store ship to Canada?
YES!
wow! you must have loved DCD- you did some damage
jenna
It was mostly empty when Lauri brought the jar to me!!
Wow, look at the swirl in the jar! It looks delicious!
Have a great weekend!
Gah! I’m sorry for your failing Internet- have a great time this weekend!
I think the foam shape in your coffee looks like a woman sitting in a chair reading a book.
OH MAN I forgot to say – it’s an Aztec woman!!!
PB&Co. peanut butters are the ideal way to do OIAJ–they seem to “melt” better than any other nut butter. So good!
I loved the Kodiak pancakes, I just tried them the other day but they were semi-ruined by bad blueberry syrup!
YUMMMM, Dark chocolate dreams OIAJ! Hope your internet gets better, it SUCKS not having it when you NEED it– believe me, I know!
Jenn
I feel the same way during my runs a lot of the time- it takes me about 3-4 miles just to warm up and start feeling good. Good for you for getting up so early to run! Have a safe trip
Five pairs of shoes for a 2 day trip? You’re my kinda girl! Hope by the time you get home that your Internet has healed itself! Have fun!
I love the swirls of chocolate and oats. How artistic! =)
Breakfast looks delicious! Love the swirl! Have a safe and fun trip!
Wow, those OIAJ look fantastic. You always make me crave oats! I love them already, but yours are so decadent. Yummmm.
Nice job on the run! I need to get ballsy enough to go on morning runs in the dark. I don’t really live near any runner’s “paths” though. I suppose sidewalks would do, though! Hopefully it will start to get lighter out earlier soon
Your OIAJ look fabulous!
so glad you arent eating melted jar!
that would not be healthy
That dark chocolate PB is my favorite!
Oh how I love breakfast. I bet those were chocolaty and so good oats. Such a delicious breakfast on a Friday morning.
Ohhhh my Kath, I think you just created the best OIAJ EVER!!!!!
I tried OIAJ in the micro and got all kinds of melt action!
Five is a good number for today!
safe driving and fun weekend! and your chocolate oats look to die for.
Glad the shoes seem to be working out for you! I’m sure your run will be GREAT Sunday!
The oats and peanut butter look so pretty together – love the swirl!
mmm those oats loook like dessert!!
I’m so sick of running in the dark! Due to my schedule I run outside in the AM all winter and i’m so ready for it to be getting light while I run. I love early summer mornings!
Letting your oats cool before you add them to the jar is probably a good idea. While no one wants the jar to melt (!) you may want to consider that the plastic was probably not meant to be heated and may result in some leaching into your food. If you’re hesitant about throwing your leftovers in a plastic container into the microwave to reheat, then you may want to reconsider the oats in a jar – or at least let ‘em cool!
It’s definitely a concern, but once they cool for a minute, they are merely “very warm” and not really hot. I do prefer OIAJ with glass jars for this reason though.
I love when my feet feel like they are running on pillows in new shoes.
I have only ever made OIAJ with glass jar so thanks for the tip.
Sorry about the internet! Sounds like a nice run though
Have a great weekend!
Whoa….love the swirl in the oats!!! I am SURE your legs weren’t moving as quickly because of lunges..those are killer! Love that chubby vase
Yay weekend..hope you can BREATHE!!
Enjoy your weekend! Love the swirls of color in your oats.
Awesome oats! I should try out the chia seeds.
your OIAJ look so pretty! i’ve never had a jar melt on me before, but i think i’ve only done OIAJ with glass jars so far…thanks for the tip though!
This darkness in the am makes it so hard to workout in the morning! I’ve been good about am workouts since February, because things always seem to come up at night, but I don’t like running in the dark! I haven’t seen any posts about it, but do you have a RoadID? I won’t leave home without it!
I don’t. I do need one for sure.
OIAJ is so wonderfully yummy! I just finished a jar this morning and may just have to have that for lunch or dinner!
Looks like your day of 5 might be a great one, outside of the internet issues of course.
You did NOT take the label off and then put it back on! I’m giggling over here.
OMG you are SO OBSERVANT!! I always take the “overview” shot first
1. that first swirly DCD/oats pic is just evil. ok, that was dramatic. but i REALLY wanted to lick my screen. i didn’t.
2. i purchased DCD yesterday because you’ve bestowed upon me a craving i really couldnt (nor had any desire) to kick. Soooo now I have White Choc Wonderful and DCD in my possession! DANGEROUS!
Hi Kath, I was wondering if you had seen the article on ABC about the teacher who is eating school lunch for a year and blogging about it? It reminded me of you and those presentations you made to the school-aged tots about REAL food and the work with the school lunch ladies.
It was an interesting read…here’s the link.

Thanks for the link, but about 500 people have already sent it to me
oh yay – glad it didn’t warp on you!!!
oooh i love your oats!
sounds to me like you had a great run-that is speedy in my book for sure.
Have a great day
I got the same pair of Asics last week in blue and I don’t have the pretty insole! My runs have been really hard this week, I think because my legs are having to work harder in the less-broken down shoes. Maybe you too?
I’ve sometimes wondered if it’s safe to make OAIJ in plastic jars… glad to know you’re being careful!
Your OIAJ looks so pretty with the swirls! Shoe packing is always the hardest part for me, too.
WHat great looking oats!!!!
Gah I hate internet issues. I’m constantly trying to get mine to work- hope yours gets straightened out!
