Definitely a day to hit up the indoor activities. It’s been pouring all morning. I hear there’s sunshine on the menu for tomorrow though!!
Karen is a trooper for trying out group exercise. She joined me for a cycle class today. She made it through half of the class and then slipped out for some track walking. She said there will be a next time, and she is also willing to try BodyPump too!
The cycle was was DIY, so I was not a huge fan. I need to be challenged and guided. If I wanted to make up my own workout I wouldn’t have come to group exercise… but thankfully I was experienced enough to make up my own workout and got a pretty good one in. My legs are tired!
Before I left I had a crusty Turkish fig (LOVE these!) and a date
Home. For. Lunch.
I made a cheddar + peach jam sandwich
With fruit and veg (and a tsp of almond butter for the veg)
And a mug of leftover lentil soup
I think I ate too fast because my stomach is all in gas knots right now!
What’s a food blogger to do when it rains?

Oh peach jam and cheddar sounds simple yet delicious for a sandwich! It’s raining here in DC too and has been ALL day. boooooooooo.
“MAIL TIME” <— said in my best Blue's Clues' character voice
Cheddar and peach jam sandwich sounds good to me!
haha, I still say “Mail Time” like that too!
I’ve had some interesting instances “finding the light.” Let’s just say my apartment neighbors think I’m wacky!!
Check out Ashley’s (on The Edible Perspective) paper towel idea for adding light to photos. Also, Ashley ( on (never home) maker) posted recently about making your own light box. Both are great, easy, cheap options for dealing with low light situations.
I’m discovering that I now suffer from stomach-in-knots from eating too fast. :-/
Mmm cheese and jam sounds delicious right now! I’m baffled that they would have a group exercise class where you “do what you want.” I thought the point was to workout as a group under instruction. Otherwise, isn’t it just like going to a crowded gym?
I love getting the mail!
your cheese and jam sandwiches always look so good! i don’t know why i don’t try that myself
I know exactly what you mean by needing to be guided from time to time!
Looks like a warm and comforting meal. I need to make some lentil soup, ASAP
Oh I am so not a fan of when they leave you up to your own devices in spinning class. Good reminder to eat slow, I wish someone could sit here and remind me every time I eat. You can eat the healthiest thing in the world but if you shove it down too fast you get a stomach ache. Grr.
It must feel good to eat homemade after all of that traveling!
That would have bothered me too. I like having the guidance and push from a teacher in a class.
Glad your mail finally arrived.
Rainy days are so beautiful in their own special way. Your rainy leaf photos are serene.

The cheddar and jam sandwich sounds so good right now!
Hilarious! I find myself grabbing at the smallest ray of sun when I’m trying to take pictures on rainy days or late in the afternoon. Glad to see I’m not alone!
Lentil soup is THE BEST lunch on a rainy day…just ate some myself on this SUPER rainy DC day!
I love cheddar and jam sandwiches, or Swiss and jam. The combination of salty and sweet and savory is just right.
We’re having a cloudy and rainy day too, which is sad because I was hoping to take some photos today, but our house is quite dark. Have you ever used a light box?
“Here’s the mail it never fails, it makes me want to wag my tail – when it comes I wanna wail MAAAIIIIIILLL”
Wow, I’ve babysat way too much in my days
Cheddar and peach jam?! YUUMMMMM!!!!!1 Oh man, I can’t wait to try this one!

I’m always struggling for natural light instead of the orangey type that I get when I shoot at night. I love cooking and baking late in the evening. A habit I might have to change soon I think
Man do I love getting mail! Especially when there’s lots of it! I might not be saying this when I have to start paying bills and such! Right now, that’s mom and dad’s job
Love that you “found the light!” I do that all the time – I refuse to use the flash!
My gym is starting the Bodypump classes in Jan. Are they worth signing up for?
Yeah, I liked the one I went to a lot
Ah, I have such a bad habit of eating too fast. I need to work on that
Hope you get your sunshine!
I have been eating a lot of peach jelly lately… not with cheese though… yet.
If I showed up at a spin class and it was DIY, not sure that I could make it through the hour… As you said, isn’t that why you go ?! What a bummer!
It’s been raining a lot here too! I’m ready for some SUN.
I’ve never tried a cycle class..they intimidate me!! (because of things just like that!)
It is so great that your mother-in-law is working out with you. I wish mine would work out with me!
I had the same problem with finding the light this morning! It’s been rainy here as well..and unfortunately the only surface I can take pictures on is my desk way away from any windows.
it’s all about the lighting!!!
I hope the rain goes away!
New to your blog and love it! Excellent work!
oh your lunch looks great and I always love these “behind the scenes glimpses”!
Hate to say it but that rumbly feeling is probably the lentils -especially if you only cooked them 20-30 minutes like your recipe said. I like lentils but my tummy sure doesn’t!
I heart cereal and soup in a mug : ) It makes me happy.
Lovely post, as always.

i love turkish figs too. they’re almost date-ish?!
Lovely shots. I must try jam and cheese sandwiches. I have never tried a cycle class – I’m no a huge fan. I think I would need to be guided too – what is the point of DIY classes? haha.

I love getting mail. I always eat too fast as well! I must learn to slow down.
DIY, what a lazy instructor, that doesn’t even make sense. Boo to that instructor.
Love inside days, gives me an excuse to be lazy!
The lentil soup looks great! And I always eat too fast also and keep trying to remind myself to slow down.
My stomach is always in knots after eating legumes! Too bad I love them so much.
I’ve just been getting back into cycle classes in the past few weeks and I love it! I’m with you though on the more structured classes–I need someone telling me what to do and pushing me to work hard.
Loving the “swingin’ Christmas” channel on Pandora that you recommended earlier–it really has put me into a better mood!
The window never fails! Love the photo of the leaves
You’re like my old boss who always put jam with cheese
At the moment I’m loving cheddar and chilli jam… one day I’ll try your SWEET jam version
I seriosly love everything you make. I can’t wait to be able to go to the farmers market here in San Luis Obispo and make my own food! I am a freshman in college here, so it’s dorm eating for me, though it isn’t too bad. I miss my rolled oats though, I have to make instant now. Anyways, once I get a kitchen again I will try to cook more!
Guess what I had for lunch today?? Organic Valley Raw Sharp Cheddar w/ homemade peach jam on whole wheat bread
After visiting your blog daily I sometimes end up making such similar foods.
Salad from today looks killer good.
