With the sweet, sweet glycogen
I slept like a log from 10:26 to 7 this morning. Felt nice! I was having crazy dreams when I woke up about being surrounded by kids in a school cafeteria!
Came down to make up a delicious bowl of oatmeal to digest before my big double-digit run today!
This one was quite the winner!!! Best bowl I’ve had all week.
The Mix
- 1/4 cup Bob’s Red Mill Apple Cinnamon Hot Cereal (You can’t really taste the apples, but the cinnamon adds a really nice aroma and the texture is awesome, esp. when mixed with rolled oats)
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
- 1/2 giant ripe banana
- 1 chopped giant date
- Pinch salt
Toppings:
- Hemp plus granola
- Crofter’s Superfruit spread (the last of my Yum Yum jar – can’t wait to open the next one!)
- Cinnamon Vanilla Sunflower Butter (LOVE this, as you know, but it is quite thick and doesn’t melt in hot oats at all. That’s my only con)
I didn’t add any pumpkin or protein or anything because I wanted this to be mostly carb-heavy for easier digestion and optimal glycogen filling. Going to work on my hydration status right now!
Other coffees just don’t bloom like Fresh Market’s! This was Grog and Peet’s Decaf.
Emily and I are meeting at 11:00 for TEN MILES!!! AHHH! But it’s only an hour and a half of running. No big deal!
I’m going to her house for a shower and lunch because our house is having an OPEN HOUSE today!
Then I’m getting my HAIR CUT!!! So excited about that. It’s been like…2 years since I’ve been to a real nice salon for a hair cut.
I’ll be back with lunch late this afternoon!

Good luck with the 10 miler! And enjoy the lovely salon experience!
Good luck with your 10 mile run…I can barely get through 5 so I am very impressed. Hope the Open House goes well!

LOL– that dream is hilarious! I guess you are officially spending too much time in grade school cafeterias
lol @ your dream!! I’m a teacher and I’ve had some FREAKY dreams where children are surrounding me. lol!
I want to come stay with you for a week and hang out.
I’ve been having dreams that my bank is open 24/7. I’ve been spending too much time at work lately!
Good luck with your ten miles, I am sure you will rock it! I hope your Open House yields an offer – how exciting! AND, I love going to get my hair cut professionally. I go 4x a year, and always love how light my head feels after!
Good luck on the 10-miler!
Can’t wait to see the hair cut
Open house! That’s exciting! Post pics of your new do’ and have a great run today!!
Yay haircuts! I’m off for one right now too, in fact I’d better step away from the computer or I’ll be late
Have fun with your 10 miles! You’ll be pulling off half-marathons like a Sunday stroll in no time!
By the way, were you a runner in high school or college? I’ve noticed you have very nice mile paces during your workouts.
I’ve always been active – dance, soccer, running – but I’ve never been an official runner. I think I’m just really competitive and know I can always run faster! The Garmin helps challenge me so much.
Good luck with the open house!!! YAY chicago mug
Yeah! A Chicago mug! (gotta rep my city!)
Hope your salon experience getting a hair cut is amazing! (Being pampered is always nice, no?)
your oats always look amazing! Have fun at the salon!
Mmm oats. Enjoy your run!
Good luck on the 10 miles. As well as on your open house.
Love that Chicago mug…it’s my hometown!
Good luck on your long run and the open house. When we had our open houses it was funny to see how many nosy neighbors came by. The realtor would tell us who they were. hope you get more actual buyers than nosy neighbors!
Mmm The crofters there sounds so good!
Oh, I love great haircuts!!! Can’t wait to see what you do with it! have fun on your run and good luck on the Open House!!!
Good luck on your run! Hair cut…..hhhhhmmmh, now you’ve got me thinking. I could really use a new do.
The oats look great! Good luck with your run!
Can’t wait for my haircut in 2 weeks!
Have a GREAT run, speedy girl!
Love your Dean & Deluca mug!
Gorgeous b-fast spread!
Have a great run!
Hope the run went well! Is the Sunflower Butter jar one that you could pop in the microwave for a few seconds to warm up so that it melts better over your oats, maybe?
Good suggestion, but that only works for the waxier coconut butters. This is just thick!
Good luck on the 10-miler! I desperately need a hair cut too, can’t wait to get it done!
i’ve been craving dates for days!!!
Wow! 10 miles!! Thats awesome! I tried Overnight Oats (Oatmeal Cereal
) and it was Deeeelicious!!
Good luck with the run! I love your blog and had been wanting to try Great Harvest Bread. Finally stopped by the one in Alexandria, VA today and — wow — what great bread! Loved my free sample of the white cheery chocolate (not so healthy) and then bought a couple of other loaves that are a bit healthier to try. Thanks for introducing me to it — I don’t think I would have found it otherwise!
Awesome!!
Looks like a delicious breakfast! I can’t believe you dreamt about the kids! haha
I gave that Chi mug to my bf. I love it!
Have a great 10 mile run!!
Oatmeal is a winner for pre-run fuel, in my opinion!
Usually I’ll bulk it up with pumpkin if I’m going long, since running slower doesn’t usually give me cramps, but it does prevent me from feeling *starving* in the middle of my run.
That is a lovely bowl of yumminess, I imagine. My taste buds are on the fritz due to illness, so I can’t taste very much!!
Good luck on your run!
Jenn
Have a great run! Keeping my fingers crossed for lots of offers on your house too!
Kath, I did 10 today too! I’m currently refueling with a huge Jass salad filled with veggies, plain hummus, raw tempeh, and bbq sauce.
Oooh, I have plans for 10 on Monday but I’m already nervous. I’ve never run that far!
Oats look amazing as usual.
The oats look good. I had the Bob’s apple cin. oats today mixed with another hot cereal of theirs called spice n nice and it was so good. Tomorrow I’m going to try your combo of the apple cin. mixed with oats.
Kath – I’m sure your run is over by now, but wanted to say “good luck’ anyway. I’m sure you’ll do great. You’re an inspiration to me on days when I don’t feel like running. Keep up the good work!!
P.S. Dates in oatmeal sound AMAZING. I will have to try soon!
that is so weird… I ran 10 miles today and then got my hair cut. Hope your 10-miler was better than mine… very soggy and rainy, but done!
Great to hear about your ten-miler. Have you followed any kind of mileage plan with your running, or just go with the flow? I’m working towards a 5K for this spring, but have never been much of a runner until last summer. I want to be able to run the miles without injury, and would love to work up to a 10K at some point.
Really enjoying your blog. Great energy in your work and writing!
I am following a plan that Sarah (Shu Box) made for me based on one of the half marathon training plans. I’m following it loosely. Not focusing too much on speedwork and making adjustments when my schedule conflicts, but I’m following the mileage increases at the same rate to try to prevent injury

Good luck with the open house! Funny about the dreams…..being a teacher I have dreams about the kids all the time!
haha! yes we totally should be friends!
Eek! Good luck with the open house!
Hope you had fun on the run! I missed my run this weekend due to falling slightly off my health wagon … but I plan on getting back into it this week! Here’s hoping I can get as good as you!
