Morning! Afternoon!
We’ve had a lovely start here in Missoula. We began with sleeping until our hearts were content, followed by a morning workout in the super nice Precor fitness room. I covered ~4 miles spilt between treadmilling and ellipticaling and watching Real Housewives on the TVs.
Silly me forgot about my hurt wrist, which hasn’t bothered me since the Homewood Suites, and picked up a 15 pounder. Ack! It seems that bicep curl motions are impossible, so I need to remember not to attempt those for a few weeks! Period!
I had a banana before and after my workout. Not too much because we had big plans for breakfast!
After showers and stuffing every last corner of my duffel bag with clothes, we headed out on foot downtown.
I really like Missoula! So many cute shops and restaurants. And lots of amazing menus!
Breakfast was a tough call, but ultimately the Shack Café’s buckwheat pancake got us in the door. This place was recommended by a friend.
It was 9:30 and coffee was a must! We were so happy to see that it was STRONG!
Spiked with some milk – I think I drank four cups! It’s so easy to just keep gulping it down when you have unlimited refills.
We saw this bowl full of cherries and other fruits dance by our table and knew we wanted one too. It was pricy, but worth every bite – really good fruit!!
Loved the touch of the POM arils!
And then my pancake!!! It was MONSTROUS and so good! I ordered one pancake (glad I just got one because it was so big) with two over easy eggs for a side of protein and maximum satiety for my day ahead.
It was deeelish!
With a drizzle of thick syrup and a schmear of butter
We kept raving to our waitress how delicious the breakfast was. She said we made her day being so enthusiastic about it : )
Overeasy is my favorite egg style. I always forget and order them sunny side up, but I prefer overeasy because the yolk is more evenly distributed throughout the white yet you still get that great runny inside.
Matt got a huge omelet with hashbrowns and sourdough toast. It was both of our goals to eat a large brunch since our lunch hours are busy. He cleared his plate and helped me with mine!
To the airport I go! My flight gets in at 11PM tonight – gonna be a long day.

I love good fruit at restaurants. I was in a place in TN once who told me they didn’t have any fruit b/c it was winter, even though fruit bowl was on the menu. I was completely shocked. We have grocery stores so we can have fruit year-round. Come on! Over easy is my favorite too.
Love over easy too. That bfast looks great.
What a great looking breakfast!!
Safe travels home
Your breakfast looks delicious!
For anyone else with long days, I have a great pot roast recipe on my blog. Start it in the morning, crank up the crockpot, and have a fantastic dinner ready for you at night!
Your coffee looks pretty. I always love watching the cream swirl into coffee.

Your food photos are making me SO hungry! I forgot my lunch and snacks at home today and looking at that bowl of cherries and other fruit is not helping! Glad you had a great morning!
buckwheat pancakes are one of my faves. So hearty and delicious, and the perfect base for a big shmear of peanut butter and drizzle of syrup.
Safe travels!

One BIG pancake is usually enough
My grandmother used to make me GInormous ones! Yum!
I’ve been LOVING a treadmill/elliptical split workout for the past several weeks leading up to half marathon training which starts next week. It’s such a greet combo. Looks like y’all picked the perfect place for breakfast.
Looks good Kath. I have an unrelated question. Or perhaps readers might help. What do you feel is a healthy weight gain for a 31 year old woman, who is quite underweight and needs to gain? Doing only minimal activity (just walking leisurely each day). It is daunting because if weight gain is slow, this person could be just walking for a long time as she gains weight.
And how does it vary according to if a person only has a little or a lot to gain? Or somene like Michael Douglas who lost 30 lbs? etc , etc.
Hey A, I’m sorry but I can’t answer questions like these over the web. I suggest you seek the advice of a healthcare professional in your town.
That looks like a delicious & hearty breakfast! Have a safe trip home
Yummmm I love pancakes! Your photos are gorgeous in this post Kath! Sounds like you had a delicious brekkie
Over easy is the best! Breakfast pics look amazing!
That breakfast sure looks mouth-watering! Best part of any day is breakfast
Have a safe and happy travels!
I haven’t been out to breakfast in so long. That made me want to get up and go right now!
I really have to watch my coffee drinking when I’m at restaurants. It is just way too easy to keep getting more and more! Make sure you always check refills are free, though. One restaurant I went to only had one refill, and anything past that was three dollars!
You’re making me want pancakes! The NYTimes just had some fun pancake recipes, including one made with oatmeal, apricots, and cardamom. I’m going to try it tomorrow morning
Pancake, eggs, and fruit… the ultimate in breakfast love! Have a safe flight!
The pancakes look great!
Unlimited refills….oh they are fun, arent they
Safe travels back home! Good luck w/ your journey back!
Deeeliciousy breakfast!!! Pancakes, eggs, and fruit..can’t beat it!
I rarely find coffee at restaurants that good and almost never that strong, anyone else?
That buckwheat pancake looks AMAZING…. my little sister is EXTREMELY allergic to buckwheat (apparently it’s a rare allergy but really serious)… poor kid can’t eat buckwheat pancakes or crepes, or any Kashi products at all
Yummmmm…all of your breakfast looks amazing!
So nice to end your trip with a fun breakfast out
. Pancakes are my absolute fave thing to order when dining out for breakfast! Safe travels Kath.
What a perfect send off brekkie
Travel safe!
That looks like an amazing breakfast! I love eating out in the mornings – always such a special treat!
The bigger the pancake, the better
Fly safe
Have a safe flight!
Those cherries look so good.
I recently discovered over easy eggs. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I always go for scrambled or sunny side up.
That pancake looks good!
Laura
I hope you have an easier time getting home than you did getting there!
That pancake looks AWESOME! I am looking forward to my Saturday breakfast already!
Wow– that pancake IS huge!!!! I love the side of eggs– good choice!
Safe travels!!
I love that you were watching the Real Housewives! Have a safe flight.
That’s such a wonderful breakfast! I would have opted for that lovely fruit bowl, too. Over-easy is my fav, too. Love runny yolks! Now I want a pancake.
That is my kind o’ breakfast!
Do you have an estimate of when your store will open?
Hoping for May!
how exciting! I hope to make the venture to your store one day!
have a great flight! i prefer over easy too but for some reason i always say sunny side up! maybe b/c i’m such an optimist
Buckwheat pancakes? How yummy indeed- all they need is a big smear of peanut butter, no?
Ohh, I saw cherries at Trader Joe’s and was tempted to pick them up…but they didn’t look like your fruit bowl did – delicious!
yum…the runny insides on eggs are lovely, especially if you dip toast into them…
MMMMM the pancake looks so good! I love buckwheat flour
P I wonder how it tastes raw….nahhhhh..Yesterday I tried the most delicious latte in my life! It’s called the “Spanish latte” and it’s European style coffee. They also make really pretty foamy shapes on top for you. This place is called Urth Caffe and if you’re EVER in L.A. Cali then you should definitely try. Have you been here to socal before? Would you ever have a reason to come down here?
Overeasy is my favourite way to have eggs too, but only if someone else is cooking. Whenever I try to do them myself, I always overcook the yolk.
Wow those pancakes look amazing. Perfect breakfast to start a long traveling day.
Wow wow wow! I haven’t eaten a pancake in years (not even in my own kitchen). This has GOT to change!
Pancakes and fruit are one my favorite breakfasts. Yum
This breakfast looks amazing! Thank you for showing Matt’s order too.
I haven’t been to Missoula but I once took a road trip by myself from Portland to White Fish, MT. It is the most gorgeous road trip I’ve ever been on. Glacier National Park is amazing.
