Yay for a great night of sleeping and a great day of napping!!
We were up at 7 today and met our new friend Kipton for a refreshing morning walk! One hour and about 3 miles later, we were off to a great start to the day.
Post-walk breakfast was a bowl of greek yogurt topped with Autumn Spice Granola, banana, pumpkin butter and Barney Butter.
And Shenandoah Joe’s Ethiopian Decaf – my new favorite coffee!!
Today was stuff n save day at Old Navy and 40% off for those with Old Navy/GAP/Banana cards, so we braved the outing to look for a few items for me (a new fleece, 2 shirts and 2 pairs of “transitional” jeans to act as a placeholder between maternity jeans and my old lot. I was blessed with a great napping baby while I tried on a few things!
Sadly they were completely wiped out of 0-3 month boy baby clothes (they whole reason why I went – not my wardrobe!) but I did get this great shirt for Matt : )
After we were home and one of us was fed and napping again in the swing (yay!), I acted fast to try to minimize lunch prep time so I could maximize eating time.
This lunch took me literally 3 minutes to put together thanks to prep I did earlier: hard-boiled some eggs, chopped some veggies, spiced pecans and purchased pre-washed greens.
Baby kale, pepper, carrot (I can’t even describe how much I like carrots after a 9-month hiatus!), spiced pecans and Annie’s Woodstock dressing.
Eggin’
This pear looks sad, but I promise he was happy!
And some AB + AB (almond + apple butter! This reminds me of algebra).
This afternoon I was able to get some work done and then we did lots of playing!
Bath, jammies and a smile!
Storytime. The Hungry Caterpillar is likely my favorite children’s book. Because I love how after he eats all the junk food he has a “salad” the next day. That’s called balanced eating!
Late afternoon snack (plus a handful more mini wheats from the bag! I also put some in my nightstand for midnight feeding snacks. They are so fun to eat as a finger food).
Matt was in charge of dinner while I fed Maze.
We had a sautéed harmony of tofu and eggplant tossed in olive oil and pesto and then cooked in a pan.
Along with another combo of green beans + shrooms in Worcestershire and garlic.
And Cheddddar Garlic bread!!
I need to be going because my eyes are nearly wide shut…
OH but one more thing – Happy Birthday Larbs!!!

Glad to know that M is sleeping better, that makes a big difference for tr parents. Have u done anything different? Have u started EASY with M? I loved Baby Whisperer books, both of them and wonder when we should start implementing it.
He was pretty much already doing easy by himself. I think he is just getting older
That’s great! I hope mine gets to do that too, now it’s kind of all over the place, close to every two hours, even at night, which is pretty exhausting.
Love that photo of Mazen in his PJs after his bath – adorable! I totally forgot about “The Hungry Caterpillar”! That was easily one of my favorites growing up, and my dad would read it to us allll the time.
Great onesie!!!
Oh little M in his jammies – so precious! glad you guys were able to get a good night’s sleep.
Lol I love the picture of him modeling his new shirt!
Sleep and naps are worth more than gold to new parents! Mazen’s little face is just adorable.
Hooray for the new shirt on Matt, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Laura’s birthday, and good naps and shopping outings!
glad to see the sleep schedule is getting better! it’s a long road…
hey did you know that mini wheats were recalled? metal in the box! we threw all of ours out, but it pained me to do it.
I did hear that but these are Whole Foods brand that I bought a while ago. Thanks for the heads up !
I was just going to mention the same recall. Maze is too cute!
Pictures of sleeping babies are so sweet! Everything seems to be falling into place and going well. The food looks delicious, I like the simplicity of it all.
Aw, it was the perfect way to start the day! Love that I have “new friend” status. Gorgeous pics of Maze.
Next time you’ll just be friend
Your lunch looks yummy!! I haven’t seen baby kale before. Does it taste different than regular Kale? And I have found the roughest looking pears are usually the sweetest!
It’s less earthy in taste…and I get it in the tubs near the baby spinach
Looks like you and Maze had a happy and relaxing day! He has the cutest baby wardrobe ever.
On my must order list: Autumn Spice Granola
I love Mazen’s outfits – they’re so cute!
Oh wow, that first picture of Mazen is unbelievably gorgeous. He is so adorable.
Your timing is perfect for getting your taste for carrots back – they’re so good this time of year when they’re fresh! Most of the year, carrots are kind of “filler” for me – we have them around and eat them sometimes, but they’re not that interesting. Then in the late summer and early fall when they’re in season at the farmer’s market – wow, carrots! They’re so good.
That stinks that ON didn’t have any clothes for Maze, but the shirt you got Matt looks nice! Hope you found what you needed. Your eats look really good, and that is so awesome that you are enjoying vegetables again! I have to say The Hungry Caterpillar, Where the Wild Things Are, The Giving Tree are all some of my favorite children’s books. Have a wonderful Thursday!
Your lunch and dinner both look delicious. Love the combo of tofu and eggplant! Happy Birthday, Larbs!
The Hungry Catepillar is such a fun book. My boys loved the story, The Big Red Barn by Margaret Wise Brown. I loved story time with my boys!
That bowl of green beans and mushrooms has me trying to reach through my monitor! So simple and yet so delicious… I think this is happening at my house tonight. Thanks for sharing!

Man, I love baby pajamas. There is something so cuddly about a baby in jammies, especially if it’s a freshly bathed baby! Soo sweet!
And I need to get my hands on some cheddar garlic bread.
love his little smile in that first picture. and what a yummy looking day of food.
Wow, I actually consider The Very Hungry Caterpillar to have an unhealthy message (though it’s still a cute book.) Eating tons and tons of followed by a salad the next day = binging and restricting, not healthy eating, in my opinion.
I don’t think he was binging because he was unhealthy – he was hungry! But then he followed his hunger cues the next day. But maybe he could have satisfied his hunger with less junk food…
I’ve always looked at it like he’s a caterpillar and is just eating what he runs across because he’s hungry. I don’t think he meal planned. That’s the first book that Harper memorized. It’s so cute!
We always have a discussion when reading it to our toddler…I say “0h he ate salami, do we eat salami?” and my toddler says, “no we don’t eat anything that has a mother!” (We are vegetarian.) And it is one of our favorite books. it can still be used as a springboard to discuss eating habits and why we do or do not eat some of those things. I also focus on the fact that the caterpillar’s belly hurts after he eats all that food.
Omg I LOVE the hungry caterpillar! And old navy sales! Sounds like a great day, and it makes me want to go shopping…
hehe Matt models that shirt very nicely! Love his expressions in his photos, they’re so expressive.
And what a relief that he’s resting better! I bet even one night makes SUCH a big difference.
Awww… Hungry Caterpillar. That is the best book, ever. Takes me right back to my childhood! Maze is too cute in those little outfits.
Oh my goodness-that picture of Mazen napping is just too sweet!!! Love it-so glad you are all doing well!
OMG those pajamas are adorable!!!
Oh how I love “The Hungry Caterpillar” and ALL Eric Carle books really- the pictures are always fantastic! I have to keep my daycare kids from going to war over who gets to read which one
Glad he’s sleeping better!
Love that HC book
M is getting cuter every day! Thanks for the bday shout-out!
LOOOOVE his little outfits! So cute!
I think you’ve just inspired me to hard boil some eggs. My lunches seem to take FOREVER to throw together despite all of my fruits and veggies being pre-cut. What’s up with that? *shaking head* A 3 minute throw together lunch sounds wonderful!
My little guy is wearing the same car jammies, while I read this!
Eric Carle likes to have a toy or play aspect to all of his books, part of the reason why he has the caterpillar eat through all the foods. Kids like to poke their finger in the hole!
Yes! My baby loves the holes as much as the story!
M looks so cute in his PJs
I think he’s looking like Karen!
Oh, and the other M looks cute in his new plaid
Mazen has the cutest outfits! I LOVE his facial expressions. Your meals remind me I need to go pick up some tofu this weekend.
Jammies and a smile, oh so adorable.
Perhaps have missed something along the way when reading your blog, but am wondering the origin of your referring to your sister Laura as Larbs. Perhaps a family secret you are not wanting to share, but would love to know. Also, does she have a nickname for you also?
It’s a nickname from her childhood that has to do with a language she had with a friend – just stuck!
Love “The Hungry Caterpillar” so much! Haven’t thought of that in forever. I love Maze’s pj’s too!
Thanks for the pesto on tofu idea! I have an opened jar I need to use up!
I snack on mini-wheats before bed too- yummy!
We have “Very Hungry Caterpillar” wall decals on our playroom walls. Love that book.
God bless a sleeping baby in the dressing room! Love that!
That dinner looks amazing. And Maze just gets cuter by the day!!
It is great when the baby naps while you are out-and-about! Although, my daughter has always been well-behaved since she was a baby — now 4 years-old — when we would go shopping & such.
Kath- I visit your site often but rarely comment, but oh my lord maze is too cute not to comment! such a beautiful baby. enjoy him
Happy Bday to Larbs & that first Mazen pic and last two pics of you and her – love the family pics!
And the tofu and eggplant tossed in olive oil and pesto sounds crazy good. And sometimes the saddest pears (and that one doesnt even look sad – you should see some of mine!) taste the best. They’re the sweetest and most ripe!
I love seeing Mazen grow and change every day!
Happy Birthday to your Sis aka the New Auntie
Hopefully Maze gets to facetime/skype her to wish her a Happy b-day! I think your birthday is coming up too if I remember correctly?!?
Yes next Friday, 10/26! The big 30!
You have the greatest bowls! I love the red one with the flowers
LOVE Very Hungry Caterpillar, that was the theme for my daughter’s 1st birthday party! The menu writes itself!
Your lunch plates are always so appealing! Do you ever make your own pumpkin butter? I can’t find it online to get shipped in and I’m considering making some! Gorgeous pics of Mazen as always!
I did once, yes, but it was from canned pumpkin. It was good, but not as good as Trader Joes. Maybe less sugar though? I’m not sure of the stats. http://www.katheats.com/?page_id=11482
New reader…love your blog! You look like Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina the Teenage Witch) to me. You and Mazen are so cute.
I have gotten that my whole life! Except people used to say “You look like Clarissa Explains It All” — old school!
Your lunch is my kinda lunch…little bits of this and that.
Is it a conscience effort to eat well everyday? Is there ever a time when you think ahh to heck with it im gonna eats chips and burgers and whatever else I want to eat? Just wondering.
I do eat chips and burgers : ) It’s all about balance and choosing nutrient dense foods most of the time
Love reading your posts every evening, Kath. They rhythm of your family is wonderful. : ) Enjoy! I look at my 6′ sons and say, “Gosh, where did you come from?” Seems like just yesterday they were the size of your little guy. He’s so healthy and cute.! Anyway, just wanted to stop by and say “hi”!
Up at 4:00 and unable to go back to sleep— ah, the mommy worries (going back to work soon is killing this heart of mine!)
Awesome sale going on there at Old Navy!
I’m coming over for lunch.. and dinner!! YUM!! Is Maze wearing a short haired Penny in the first photo!! Too cute!!
Come visit and I will cook all of your meals : ) bring penny!
I’ve been meaning to leave this comment for a while… And I just want to say – thank you for eating real food, in realistic proportions. You are a true inspiration in a world full of tiny portions and strange concoctions! THANKS!
I love the photos of your food plates. They are so well-balanced! I need to keep that in mind when I take photos and create meals.
Oh my gosh I totally forgot about that book!!! I remember sitting in the library as a child for story time and hearing that story! LOVE it!
Love Hungry Caterpillar for the same reason!
