I know what you’re thinking: She had cake in her oatmeal again!?

Nope, the encore is for the bikes!! I woke up kind of HOT this morning and the thought of riding our bikes in the cold was appealing. So that’s what we did. It helped that it was 10 degrees warmer today too. I’m so glad we were able to ride them once more. I was kind of queasy this morning – I think I ate toooooo much :( But I did OK at the gym. 30 minutes on the Stairs (including some Organic Chem 👿 ) and some stretching before we biked back home.

Then I made this WONDERFUL bowl of oats in my new bowl!

  • 1/3 cup Windy Hills flax oats, 2% milk, water
  • 1 tbsp raisins
  • 1/2 large banana
  • Salt pinch
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin
  • Pumpkin pie spice
  • Pumpkin butter
  • Flax
  • Almonds
  • Almond butter on a spoon

With tea –

Here’s to a healthy day!

Here’s another belated happy birthday and some words of wisdom…

Let’s see, I was a senior in high school on October 26, 1982 (but only sixteen at the time: I was a bit young for my age! *wink*)

I turned twenty-six myself in early 1992, or nearly seventeen years ago and let me tell you this: it goes by in a flash. I know, I know. You’ve heard that from every other old person on the planet. And no one who’s twenty six can possibly imagine seventeen years going by in a blink. But trust me, it happens. You see the brain, unfortunately, has no capacity for storing time. All we know is that events have past, but we feel exactly the same as ever: therefore, time must be moving fast. There’s no other explanation.

In the movie City Slickers, we learn that the secret to happiness is “one thing.” That “one thing” is different for everyone: it’s up to each of us to find it and stick to it.

I wasted a LOT of time (and money) trying to figure it out. I’m still not sure if I’m there yet, but I think I’m finally getting close. I started an epic novel in 1993 and I’m finally finishing up the second paragraph!

My advice to you: make sure you know what your “thing” is; live life the best you can; and don’t let a day slip by. Someday you just might want them back. 😉

Here here to eating healthy again. I ate and drank pretty heavy this past birthday weekend too and I was definitely feeling the effects by last night.

I can’t wait to start this week off on a good foot :)

12 Justy2003 October 27, 2008 at 8:30 am

Love the new bowl! Meant to tell you on the previous post but there were so many other things I forgot to mention it!
Hope you’re feeling back to normal again! I know how those sugar-loaded weekends can be!

13 Betsy October 27, 2008 at 8:31 am

i’m such a fan of fun bowls too. there’s a great store in NY called Fish Eddy’s that has fantastic bowls and plates and stuff and everytime I walk by it I have to use serious restraint not to buy some!

14 Fancy October 27, 2008 at 8:45 am

This has been the craziest week and I am behind on reading your posts…I just saw that you are coming to Chicago! I live downtown and would love to meet up with you and Jenna while you’re here. Post when you know if you will be able to meet so we can all email each other or something. :)

15 Josie October 27, 2008 at 8:59 am

19 Heather October 27, 2008 at 9:57 am

LOVE the new bowl!! And the gourd centerpiece is so cute, too.

Happy belated birthday! I enjoyed the 1982 facts… it was a good year :)

20 Cat October 27, 2008 at 10:05 am

Love the gourd centerpiece. Hope you are fully recovered by now and do well in your quiz today!

I had a bit of an unhealthy weekend myself and am looking forward to being focused on health this week as well. Cheers!

21 Julie L October 27, 2008 at 10:16 am

Happy belated birthday, Kath! I don’t suppose the husband would share the dressing he used on the kale, would he? Maple-vinegrette? even if it’s a rough idea, it would help – I have some kale to eat up and since my husband loves maple syrup, I thought it would help convince him to eat it too! Thanks!

22 bobbi October 27, 2008 at 10:36 am

love the centerpiece on your table, and the bowl so cute. Have a happy MONDAY!

23 Biz October 27, 2008 at 10:41 am

Great way to start the day!

I, however, chose to sleep in!

Happy Monday all!

24 Dad October 27, 2008 at 10:48 am

Looks like you had a wonderful bday … and so many well-wishers! I got a huge chuckle over the sw potatoes, kale and fish for bday dinner — made me question if you’re your Mother’s daughter?

Looking forward to my bday celebration this weekend — it will be hard to top yours.

Love, Dad

25 runjess October 27, 2008 at 10:50 am

Funny, because it’s a good 10* COLDER here. Boo to organic chem first thing in the morning!

26 Kath October 27, 2008 at 10:57 am

caitlin ,
Cool contest! I know I’d never win because my stuff is all so normal, although always needs replacing :)

Charlie Hills,
Great advice!!

Melissa S.,
Sorry you are having comment trouble. I check the spam filter and didn’t see any of your posts there. Hopefully you fixed the problem?

Fancy ,
We’re definitely hoping to greet some readers. Most likely Sunday morning (the 9th?) for coffee/breakfast. I’m going to do a call for emails soon!

JennC ,
It’s really well written – like it a lot!!

Julie L,
I’m pretty sure it was just maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, hazelnut oil (or you could use olive), salt and pepper.

Dad ,
But clearly since I ate about a square foot of cake this weekend I have to have gotten some of her genes!

A trip to Boston sounds fun to me!!

27 Christie October 27, 2008 at 11:05 am

I kept thinking that I love the whole 26 thing that you had going yesterday but I couldn’t figure out why. But then I thought about it and my b-day is 2/6 (Feb 6) – that’s why!

28 Jess. October 27, 2008 at 11:33 am

Here’s another Happy Belated Birtday Wish!!!! looks like you had a fabulous (and delicious) weekend! i also try to surround myself with all of my favorite things on my birthday- really everyday, but i make and extra effort on my birthday!!!!
I am jumping on the back to healthy wagon with you. Too much food and drink for me this weekend. so far so good- kale chips, butternut sqaush and leftover chick pea cutlet warming up for lunch right now and a big pot of lentil soup on the stove for dinner!!! hope you have a lovely monday!!!

29 Christin S October 27, 2008 at 11:35 am

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATH!! (a day late :( ) I only get to the computer at work during the week. Thanks for sharing all the 1982 facts…we are the same age and I was also born in ’82! (my b-day is Feb. though) anyways, hope you had an awesome weekend, and thanks again for taking the time to share all your inspirational meals and tips. :)

Christin S.

32 Mel October 27, 2008 at 12:28 pm

Your new bowl is really pretty, I’m sure it made your oatmeal even better!

33 HangryPants October 27, 2008 at 3:17 pm

cake in the oatmeal would have been great, but probably not two days in a row! Love the new bowl.

34 Erica October 28, 2008 at 7:59 am
