Holy transformer, the sky was raining raindrops and blue sparks! Two giant explosions took away our power for a few minutes. It was scary. I hope things are OK now. We have rain, but no wind or lightening, so I’m not sure why the sparks or why the rest of Cville seems to have intermittent power!?
Totally unrelated, our kitchen light seems to be out. And it’s not the bulb or the circuit breaker. We should have an electrician coming this week, but in the meantime….
We have a floor lamp! I actually LOVE the ambiance! The kitchen is so cozy
[And what's funny is that we worked in the kitchen in the dark for two nights before we thought to bring in a lamp. DOH!]
Tonight’s dinner came out of plastic. We weren’t really hungry and had a date to attend, so we just threw together some leftovers.
Tuesday’s Enchilada Black Beans
Tofu from who know’s when…
It was pretty good, but it needed salt, which I was too lazy to get up and retrieve!
On the side: half a pear and a fig!
Blog reader Stormy introduced us to Stephanie and Evan because he felt we have a lot in common. WE DO!! We now have another awesome set of friends who share so many of the same likes that we do.
Evan is a homebrewer, and they invited us over for a post-baby-bedtime nightcap.
We tried a handful of his beers, including the above AMAZING Basil IPA – one of the top 5 beers I’ve ever had (!) and a Smoked Porter that was so very unique along with a few other delicious varieties.
Small sips, small sips!
We just got home after 3 hours of talking and I’m ready to hit the hay!

I have been randomly craving a good pear. I hate that they’re not ripe when you get them from the store though…
love that a reader set you up on a “blind date” with some new friends
It was raining in DC today too… Not fun at all! I wanted to train for my duathlon sooo bad, but oh well… you win some, you lose some : ) Have a great night!… I am now craving a pear, lol.
A homebrewer? Surely Evan and Matt are going to be best Charlottesville friends forever then?
I would have worked in the dark too…sometimes those simple solutions just don’t seem obvious
Your kitchen does look very cozy with the floor lamp:) Sounds like you had a perfect evening after your day!
we recently had a Honey Basil beer… it was SO good.
I like the “cozy” ambience of the lamp in the kitchen!!
I love the cozy lighting that the lamp offers the kitchen!
Spellcheck! *grammar Nazi at work* – I believe you meant light BULB, not blub… and uniqu must mean unique…
Feel free to delete the spelling Nazi part after you fix it…
leftovers always tastes good,..
You know, I’m always so impress by your ability to make something wonderful out of leftovers.
I am the queen of tupperware leftovers!
If you are the queen then I am the princess!!!
nice way to end the weekend!
That dog is so cute. Hope your kitchen light gets worked out.
I love the lighting lamps give!
That is hilarious that you didn’t think to bring a lamp in – however, I would be the same way!
I’m so impressed by all the new friends you’ve made in such a short time! I guess the blog is really helpful in that way.
I love throwing random leftovers together into one meal, making it completely new. Usually—most of the time—it turns out rather delicious.
And I totally agree with the ambience of a floor lamp! It adds so much cozy appeal.
I love how the lamp looks in the kitchen — sometimes lamps just look better than overhead lights
And I wouldn’t have thought to bring a lamp in, I would still be cooking in the dark!
Our kitchen light is out, too, and we just set up a nice lamp!
You always make leftovers look delicious!
A light is out in my bathroom…but that is because I’ve been too lazy to change the bulb. haha Lovin the leftover dinner! and that IPA sounds wonderful.
Even though those are all leftovers they still look delicious! =)
I thought you four might just hit things off! Glad everything worked out!
hey mood lighting is always better so long as you aren’t cooking at the time, i would probably lop off a finger eep!
We totally do dinners out of plastic too. I love leftovers!
I think a lamp in the kitchen is perfect! I’ve got one on my kitchen counter and many times I work by that light instead of the track lighting overhead (hate those things and wish we had never put them in). I love idea of the floor lamp!
I love having a lamp in my kitchen. We normally turn it on at night and it’s so much better than overhead light.
I love that dog! It is gorgeous.
What a cozy kitchen. It looks like there should be a couch some place in there so you can curl up and eat some oats =)
Sounds like you had a great evening. Yay for new friends!
Yay for making new friends!
And yep, your kitchen looks super cozy
It’s “knows” not “know’s”.
I have just started reading your blog
I am trying to start eating healthier and hopefully will loose some weight
One of my biggest problems is breakfast.
Interest in all the different ways you prepare your oatmeal.
Do you have a post which goes through the process of making them, other than the tribute to oatmeal? Other recipies? Not a fan of bannana.
Thanks
THAT IS A HUEY DOG!!!! OMG!
I know!! I was so advanced to say “Oh, is this a Pointer?” Ha!
Kath, your meals always look so delicious. I always admire, but last night I went ahead and made Matt’s golden beer bread with Magic Hat Seasonal Hex ale. AMAZING! Your husband is a baking genius! I can’t wait to try out more of your recipe ideas
Thank you!
Yay!
Speaking of tofu… if you can get it, you guys have to try Sunergia brand. I’ve only been able to get it through a food buying club but it is so good. They have several flavors such as Masala, Pesto, Spicy Thai…. it’s really good.
I’m just hoping it freezes ok because I had to buy 2 cases. That’s alot of Tofu!
Whoops! forgot…such a cute dog. I’m having a giveaway and raffle if interested.
It’s for doggie stuff and animal lovers.
Love the picture of the pointer!!! We have a GSP and its rare to see others with them. Sweet puppy!!!!!
I would love to have a fan in my kitchen!! I always get so hot while cooking… that would be a God send!
Even your mixture of leftovers looks delicious. Basil beer.. I’m intrigued. I love basil and IPA is my favorite kind of beer so I bet I’ll love the combination.
I missed whose pooch is in this pic! She looks JUST like my parent’s German Shorthair Pointer named Trinka
PS Love the photo element experiments – looks like you’ve learned a ton!
LOVE your kitchen – the color, the decor, the layout and that lamp adds the perfect homey touch
the lamp really does look good.
Glad you had a good time with good conversation:)
