The drive from 695 to I-66 I could do without ever driving again.
But the drive from I-66 down 29 to Cville is simply GORGEOUS! Especially with an orange sherbet sunset and black silhouetted mountains on the horizon. Wish I had a third hand to take a photo!
I munched on an apple, trail mix and – of course – some Trek bar.
When I arrived home stiff and hungry, I found a lovely dinner on the table
And a romantic + proud chef! [Doused in cologne, so he smelled goooood!]
He made caesar salads with Virginia Roll croutons
And an amazing pasta dish with mushrooms, green peppers and bacon in a marinara sauce from Mona Lisa Pasta.
I’ve only been gone for 24 hours, but we had lots to catch up on! The bakery just performed its best non-holiday week, and we are set to join the Cville Farmer’s Market this summer!!
I feel like I have that same grime of a long flight – and I’m craving a bubble bath more than any other cravings right now, so I’m going to get squeaky clean and then in bed to read. We’re reading The Magician’s Assistant for Tuesday’s book club and I have lots of words to absorb before it comes!

Ugh, I am terrified of 695. Blah!
Nothing like arriving home safe and sound to a loving husband and a home cooked meal! A bubble bath and good book to finish sounds perfect! Enjoy your evening!
This type of meal is what I came to after work this past week. I was told that “good pasta” was for dinner. Always a comfort meal!
What a delicious meal to arrive home to- sweet Matt!
Congrats with the bakery
Im driving 6 hours tomorrow, probably going to feel the same then, hehe
What an adorable dinner Matt made for y’all. I hope my hubby does stuff like that after we get married
That dinner looks so good! I love shell pasta.
I am thinking of coming to CVille this summer to visit the University of Virginia and I definitely am going to stop by your bakery if I come! Everything you sell there looks excellent(:
Email me when you do so I can meet you there!
Yum! You are so lucky that your husband cooks. My husband’s specialty is frozen pizza! LOL!
That’s a wonderful book! I love Ann Patchett. Her characters are so real. This one has a truly surprising end. I hope you enjoy it!
Congrats on a successful weekend at the bakery! And that was so nice of Matt to have that all ready for you upon arrival, sans spinach and all!
If you’re reading the Magician’s Assistant, PLEASE read Bel Canto next. Same author, and one of my all-time favorite books. Such beautiful, poignant prose.
I was just going to write about Bel Canto too! And her newest book, State of Wonder, deals with fertility, which Kath might find interesting in her current state
What a perfect dinner to come home to! I think I need to find me a guy who will have dinner ready for me when I get home..
What a nice surprise to have dinner waiting when you got home! I love when people cook for me!
Great weekend lady! I love a man that smells good, luckily I am married to one as well. I could do with a man that cooks as well as Matt though. Let me know if Matt decides to host a male cooking class
, I’ll gladly sign my husband up.
Did I miss it or did you ever say what you thought about the end of the Hunger Games books?
Yeah I wrote a short paragraph in this post: http://www.katheats.com/mediocre-miles
A big pasta bowl is such a comforting meal! The salad looks awesome.
Congrats on the bang-up week at the bakery and an orange sherbet sunset…ooooh, love those. I always see them on drives or outside of airplane windows; not really conducive to photography.
Hi Kath
I love your website, been visiting it for about a year now and you been apart of the inspiration for me to start exercising for the first time in my 28 years of living! I’m feeling great! My tummy is slowly turning from jelly to abs! Who woulda thought I had some of those in there! Your an inspiration and I wanted to thank you for putting your life out there for others to benefit from.
Katie
Thanks so much Katie!
What a lovely dinner and handsome chef! Ceasar salads just never get old
Congrats on the great sales week (and on joining the farm market)!
Oh, and tell Matt the pasta looks DELICIOUS!
That dinner is so so colorful! And the Ceasar Salad looks delish!
You’re photos are stunning! Plus, there’s nothing better than coming home to a great meal… #jealous

congrats on the bakery sales – i work in retail and know how satisfying/rewarding it is when you achieve new rewards/reach new targets! onwards and upwards!
There’s no better meal than pasta and salad. Is that the Magician’s Assistant by Ann Patchett? I read that a few years ago and I enjoyed it.
Yep!
How sweet! He must have missed you
The pasta looks amazing!!!

I am loving caesar salad, but it’s so hard to find a good dressing. What kind of dressing do you use? Thanks!
Karen introduced me to Whole Foods brand and I like it a lot. It’s almost chunky with parm cheese
I am so excited to hear that you’ll be at the Cville Farmer’s Market this year! I can’t wait for summer
That pasta with the cheese slightly melted looks amazing! That’s the best way to eat pasta, with just a bit of cheese starting to melt! So good. Glad you all had a safe trip!
That’s really exciting that you’re joining a farmer’s market! How fun!
I just read through all of your posts because I was out of town. I’m addicted to your blog. Too fun to catch up! Looks like you had a great weekend! I love all your healthy eats and variety! So inspiring to me
I live in Northern Virginia and my parents live in Baltimore (just south of Towson, actually) so I drive the 695/95 mind-numbing roads a lot. HATE it.
