Maze and I had lots of plans for the day, so we had to be efficient with our meals. Some of us ate faster than others ![]()
I got things ready for the day quickly, including ingesting this fast bowl of Greek yogurt with Cville Cluster granola, banana and pumpkin butter swirled in.
And my usual cup of coffee!
With a side of dumpling!
Where we were going? THE GYM!
Maze is old enough to go to the Kids Zone (6 weeks), but I would rather he wait another week and a half until he has his first shots to go, so Karen met us there and walked him around in the stroller while I got in a workout! He slept most of the time (who is the new baby of mine who sleeps!?) and after Karen passed him back off to me, she got in her workout.
I started off with the 20 minute walk there, followed by 15 minutes on the Stairmaster. HARD work, but man-oh-man was it awesome to sweat hard not related to 100* summer temperatures!! I then did about 25 minutes worth of weight lifting – so happy to be lifting heavier weights again! I did free weights and some machines. My arms are ready for push-ups but my core is not! Wonder if I will be sore tomorrow..
After my workout I met with the staff and changed my individual membership to a family membership. An expensive upgrade, but this includes free unlimited childcare AND Matt! He hasn’t felt it was worth the expense to join, but with the upgrade to a family membership, adding Matt was not that much more than adding Mazen. I’m sure we’ll start a family tradition of going as a threesome on the weekends! Also, I was able to retroactively freeze my membership for the ~50 days I missed postpartum, so that was a really nice savings!
Logistically, I fed Maze before we left and then I knew I had about 2.5-3 hours until he would be hungry again. The whole trip took a while, and I fed him in the Kids Zone nursery before we walked home. It was fun to watch the other babies in there!
Back at home I was blessed with just a long enough swing nap to eat lunch!
A really good lunch too!
Smoked salmon on High Five with mustard
A big salad of local greens, avocado, spiced pecans (I’m all out!) and honey drizzle
Plus grapes!
Then I showered while M played with a new giraffe friend!
This afternoon we dashed over to see Dr. Tate (my back seems good postpartum!) and ate a snack: Mini wheats with milk + almond butter
And unpacked some new clothes I bought from Old Navy! They were having a killer sale last week of 30% off everything so I took advantage and got some warmer weather clothes.
Maze says, “Vive la stripes!”
What also happened this afternoon? A 1.5-hour long crib nap!!!!!!!!!
Late this afternoon we tuned up my BIKE!! Wheeee!
Because I needed to ride it to town for a fun meeting –
Man have I missed biking! Matt helped me tune it up, put fresh batteries in my night lights and get rid of all the spiders.
I fed the babe just before 6 and was off to….Lululemon for the night!
I participated in a focus group with the store manager, my friend Kirsten, one of the brand’s designers and a handful of Cville fitness buffs. The designer travels around collecting feedback from community members about what the love and look for in fitness apparel. Our wish list included: cropped pants for men, wicking base layers, tagless clothing, versatile items, powerful sports bras, drawstring tops, and more pockets everywhere.
The session was lots of fun, and we enjoyed some really delicious snacks from The Box: tofu wraps, root veggie wraps, peanut butter lemon hummus and pita chips and cabbage wraps. The dipping sauces were the best!
I ate enough that I felt satisfied and called it dinner but had some of the Brussels sprouts Matt cooked when I got home.
I came home with plenty of time to spare before our next feeding at 8pm. It was weird and fun to be out alone, but boy did I miss my guys!

For ONCE you can’t tempt me with your smoked salmon because I have some in the fridge! Weeee! Love his cute little smile.
Peanut butter hummus?? That sounds amazing!! I wonder how they made it. Also, I am really glad you got to participate in a lululemon focus group. My brother works for lulu corporate, so I am glad to see my favorite blogger and my favorite company working together!
I’ve made hummus before substituting the tahini for peanut butter and it was amazing! Also very convenient for me since I always have peanut butter around but not often tahini.
I need to get out on my bike. You’ve inspired me to do my own tune up! Also that picture of maze with the dumpling shirt is too cute.
I have been following your blog for a couple of weeks now and have thoroughly enjoyed reading about your food, your family, and your bakery! I am visiting my daughter who lives in Lynchburg, Va. this weekend and we are planning to drive to Charlottsville to visit the bakery. Perhaps we will have the opportunity to meet!
I’m not there as much now that maze is here, but email me your plans if you want!
I also miss my baby girl when I’m out alone, even for an hour. Sometimes I even miss her when she is sleeping!! Crazy! I know.
The immunizations don’t provide immediate protection once given….think of a flu shot, it takes two weeks to provide protection. Just an FYI. When I had my first baby, I didn’t know that.
Yummy eats!
Thanks!
Make sure the shot does NOT have mercury in them–most flu shots still do. Also remember that he’s getting lots of natural immunity through your breastmilk!
I love your bowls – they’re all so pretty! Your lulu wish list is the same as mine: POCKETS! I always want more on my running gear so when I find something with pockets I”m over the moon happy.
Grapes are so delicious right now- love the red ones best! That pic of Mazen makes me miss the time I could put Luke on the bed and not worry about him rolling off… It goes by sooo fast!!!
He looks so cute in his dumpling shirt!
Maze is so CUTE !!!
A family gym membership sounds…fun?!? And I don’t even work out!
What a fun day! My Mr would approve of the giraffe, he had one when he was little and always goes a little mushy when we see one in the “wild.” (aka-Target or equivalent store) I think you guys will love having the family membership!
In a few months you’ll be thinking about a baby bike seat! We have the CoPilot Taxi child seat – it’s on my bike, and my 9 month old does great in it. So fun to get out as a family and ride.
What a fun day! That fellow of yours gets more handsome every day!
I love how you show how easy it is to go through a busy day and still eat healthy. Oh and your baby is such a cutie!
I cannot get over how adorable Maze is! His smile is so bright
And I cannot get over the dumpling shirt. GAH
You are definitely a supermom! I think it’s great that you can get things prepared ahead of time!
You came up with some GREAT suggestions for Lululemon-I wish I lived closer to one! Or maybe not…my entire paycheck would go there! : ) Hopefully they come up with some of your recommendations!
You’re so on top of things buying clothes for warm weather already! Those green striped pants are so cute! I think I have the same ones from Old Navy lol.
Do you mean cooler-weather clothes? I see a jacket and long sleeves and hoods and pants.
D’oh yes! Warmer clothes for cooler weather!
Ha! I actually didn’t think anything of it until Kimberly’s comment, then I was confused. So even the first time I read it I thought along with warmer clothes. So funny how your brain can trick you.
That picture of Mazen in all the clothes is just priceless.
And I’ve been craving a big bowl of yogurt SO much lately…so that breakfast looks absolutely perfect! Plus, you can’t really go wrong with Cville Cluster
Maze’s dumpling shirt is TOO cute! He is such a handsome baby!
Look at those EYES! He’s such a beautiful baby, Kath!
And you packed tons into that day. Congrats!
Oh my, he is just getting cuter and cuter by the day…so adorable!
That first picture of Maze is adorable haha I had to look twice :p
Family membership sounds great! I’ve been thinking of doing that with my family haha (meaning mom dad sister and me)
Kath! I think I’m heading to C-Ville in December for the Dave Matthews concert. I am definitely stopping in the bakery for some more nola!
It’s been so long since I’ve had C-Ville crunch and it’s about time to get some back in my life.
Oh fun! Hope to see you
Love the look of that lunch.
Yay for gym time!
I still don’t own any Lululemon, but I lust over it every single time I see a store!
Way to go on the workout and the 1.5 hour nap!! That’s great!
I remember there being lots of orange and blue colour combinations when my eldest was a baby…I loved the fun colours! Clothing has come a long way for boys…love the stripes! Smoked salmon…yummy!
I’m totally digging M’s stripe wardrobe! He looks so cute…something in his face has changed, I think. Perhaps it’s all that glorious sleep he’s getting.
Oh and I’d love to be part of a Lululemon focus group…that would be so much fun!
Maze is such a cutie! Yay for napping in the crib! Both of kids were obsessed with that same giraffe toy!
From the trip to the gym, carving out a perfectly well-timed 3 hrs, to a swing nap blessing when you got home, to the Lulu event to the peanut butter lemon hummus…there is just so much good stuff going on here, Kath! Love it and happy that you were able to pack in such a full day with fun stuff!
Maze looks so big! And how awesome that you were able to get back to the gym AND get back out on your bike. I’m sure it felt amazing!
Mazen is so bright-eyed and expressive! And I love that dumpling onesie!!
Jealous of the Lululemon!
We use our family Y membership almost everyday in some form or fashion. Totally worth the money!
One thing though. Man-pris? (cropped pants for men) EWWWW.
For ashtanga yoga and rock climbing! Loose at the bottom.
A lot of men in other countries wear cropped pants. It’s quite common – and it can look good.
1) How on earth has it been 6 weeks already!?
2) Mazen seems to just get cuter and cuter!
Oh my lord! His cuteness is killing me! I’m TTC#2 without much luck at the moment and those little dimply cheeks and smiles are making my womb ache! So very adorable.
I just bought a whole load of stuff from lululemon all the way to Ireland…got shafted by FedEx for customs though
Maze looks so big in pics on his own and then when you hold him he looks so teeny tiny! So Cute! Well done on the weight workout! Have a bath with epsom salts tomorrow if you’ve any muscle pain!
Mazen looks so much like you in the picture with the giraffe.
aww that workout must have felt amazing. it makes me happy that you have your mother in law to help out too!
At first, when he was born, I thought that he looked like his dad but now Mazen is starting to look more and more like you! He’s got such an uplifting smile!
What is Mazen going to be for Halloween?!
http://www.inquisitr.com/32340/lobster-baby-cutest-halloween-costume-evar/
a cowboy! Such a cute lobster : )
I made and love the pekanz recipe! It’s like having a little dessert on top of your salad.
Thank you for sharing!
: )
cute clothes! i find out the sex in a week and a half and am starting to realize how much fun boy clothes are too!
Your baby looks JUST like you! Adorable pic on the bike!
Oh. my. goodness. LOOK at that cluster! That’s crazy.
And that first picture of Mazen is so adorable.. gotta love baby eyes!
Kath, I have a question about sugar and am having a hard time finding an answer online. I know that added sugar in your daily diet isn’t a good thing. But what about the sugar found in milk, yogurt and fruits and vegetables? I am trying to lose weight and generally I make good decisions. I don’t ADD much in the way of sweeteners, etc. But I still find that after getting fruit, veggies and dairy that my sugar intake is over the recommended limit. I use plain greek yogurt and just fresh fruits and veggies (as opposed to canned, flavored, etc). So I guess I’m a little confused on that. Was wondering if you could help.
In my opinion, natural sugars are totally fine. You don’t want to eat ONLY fruit all day long, but I would never worry about a natural sugar
Kath
Could u do a post or email me some info on loosing baby weight, looks like you are doing really well. My boy is 1 year old and I am back at work, but I see to need snacks between meals and I find myself binging on chips/ crackers… Unhealthy stuff
I admire your resilience and good habits!
Plum
The Lulu event sounds like so much fun! And that’s great that you got a family membership. I wonder if you can get Matt hooked on Body Pump too!?
Mazen is looking more and more like matt in every post!! I can really see the resemblance now!
Happy Birthday Kath!!! Hope you have a lovely, lovely day!
Thanks!!
hi kath!
do you know what kind of shoes you are wearing in the shot with you just about to take off on your bike? they look like something i’ve been trying to find.
thx!
They are Toms! So comfy!
Absolutely love the picture of Mazen in the dumpling shirt! His little face is so precious. You’ve gotten some great shots of his smiles too! The Lululemon event sounds fun…glad you were able to get out and enjoy!
I bet these are the kinds of days you have been hoping to spend for some time now! All the good things.
Gosh! Your breakfast looks so good! I am literally craving greek yogurt after having seen the picture
Luv luv luv Luulemon … I always have a wish list with Lulu, can’t help myself
Maze looks adorable, getting cuter all the time.
Looks like a busy and productive day!
Great pic of Mazen with his giraffe! Btw, where did you get that bowl??? I am obsessed with coral!!!
At a gift shop in Charlotte, nc… unfortunately I don’t remember which one
All those spiced pecans you’ve been having me inspired me to buy some for my own salads! So good!
That’s fantastic about the gym! Taking him at this young age will be best because he will become used to the routine and the people there. We love our gym!
That first picture of Maze looks just like Matt to me.
Yay on the 1.5 hour crib nap! It sounds like he’s adjusting just fine.
Can I just say OMG! you asked for my entire wish list for workout gear! Well, ecept for the mens pants as I don’t wear them Ha Ha. I hope they listen to every single thing you all said. Oh I cant wait for more pockets, no tags and stronger bra’s = Heaven
I will die from cuteness if you install a baby seat on your bike!!
I think I said this before, but Mazen has beautiful, blue eyes!!!
What a healthy dumpling Mazen is
