Snack attack around 4pm – hunger comes on FAST these days!
Nutritious. Not delicious.
So I threw it out and switched to this instead:
I toured a house with Karen this afternoon and walked there (1 mi) to meet her. It seems like the perfect fit (she’s hoping to rent something downtown) so hope all goes well getting her in!
When I returned home, hungry again! Like stomach-growling hungry. I chugged some water and ate this protein-packed bowl of greek yogurt with raspberry jam and chia seeds.
And worked on the porch for the rest of the afternoon!
Dinner was goooood!
I defrosted this hot smoked salmon that I won at the Foodbuzz Festival this November and we heated it in a pan (I know, smoked salmon, but I gotta) along with some baby spinach = nutritious.
And then we made the delicious part of the meal!
Maccccccccc! Remember my disappointing experience with the powdered mac? Deluxe squeeze pack is the way to go. Super energy dense and high in sodium and fat, but sooo good! Way better than powdered kind!
Consumed on our beautiful evening porch! We sat out there talking long after the sun set.
My stomach is full and huge!!!!

That mac n cheese looks so good! I’m weary to try some gluten free brands, but I guess I’ve just got to jump in and give them a whirl!
mmmm that cappuccino flavor lara bar looks great!! I haven’t had that flavor yet, I hope I can find it next time I hit up Whole Foods!
Hey Kath,
I have been reading your site for quite awhile now and love all your ideas for oatmeal! Thank you! I was wondering when you say you “worked” or you work at home, what is your job? You never mention what you do. I know you maintain this blog but that doesn’t pay money does it? Just curious. Thanks again for you wonderful site!
Sara
Hey Sara,
I do make a living from it. I’m operating two blogs now (katheats.com and babykerf.com) so it’s now twice the work – or maybe more like 1.5 times
I also do a bunch of little projects on the side – from working at the bakery I own with my husband to smaller freelance projects related to KERF.
Indeed, blogging and maintaining a website is a full-time job
Don’t you find that your belly seems SO much bigger (and bloated!) by the end of the day?!! Just imagine when you hit the nine month mark! Lol!
Yes, totally!
Mac and cheese is so stinkn’ good.
I want mac and cheese! *pout*
the cappucino larabar is one of my top favorite flavors! good choice on the switch.
Sounds like a wonderful evening! Enjoy the rest of it!
your porch is so adorable … what a beautiful place to spend the evening!
Have you tried the new Larabar Uber? I had the bananas foster and it was divine!!
Ooo no, I haven’t seen those!
Ooh, I got that one but haven’t tried it yet! Glad to hear that it’s as good as it sounds!
I am in love with smoked salmon, and was even more obsessed with it while pregnant! Hopefully Lucy is extra smart b/c of my obsession
I so love your porch! I wish I had one like that. One day…
Dinner looks delicious. I do miss good ol’ fashion mac and cheese sometimes. Have a great night Kath!
mmmmmac and cheeeeeese. yum.
i love mac n cheese!! always seem to forget about it though. as embarrassing as it is, i have to say i have great trouble straying from my favorite kraft, BUT now i’m anxious to try the deluxe squeezables. have a good night, kath
gorgeousss evening and porch, I would be spending every waking moment out there. Dinner sounds like a winner too!
That sounds like such a perfect night!! And that mac and cheese looks AWESOME!
Hahaha baby kerf must be stealing all your food away! And your house is seriously sooooo gawgeous!!
Hi Kath,
I enjoy your website so much! Thank you!
I would like to find a recepie by ingredience. Right now I am looking for some recepie with mushrooms. How can I find them?
Thank you. You are great!
Ildiko
If you type this in you’ll find shroom recipes!

Yeah… I’ve never tried that bar, but I’ve had bars that are healthy and “tastes healthy” lol
I love salmon, I could taste it just looking at your photos..:P
Man I LOVE mac and cheese! I grew up on the powder kind so it’s never bothered me.
I actually keep a box of that mac-n-cheese on hand at all times. It may not be the most nutritious choice but it’s quick, comforting, and easy to mix in fresh ingredients.
Just the descriptions on that bar make it sound pretty iffy!
Have you ever made mac n’ cheese using pasta and laughing cow wedges? I love using the swiss ones (two wedges/serving) to make deliciously creamy mac n’ cheese!
This looks like it would be idea for you. http://picky-palate.com/2012/02/20/5-minute-homemade-mac-and-cheese/
This way you can customize it but get the same creamy taste
Wow, thanks! That recipe looks so easy & MUCH better ingredients than the boxed (which is so tasty when you get the deluxe with the cheese sauce vs powder)
That does look great!
LOVE your porch! So peaceful
I Loooooove the cappucino larabar!!! But sadly I ate all my samples and no stores around me carry them!
I miss them!!!
Your dinner looks so comforting. It’s a beautiful evening, day really, so it’s great that you spent so much time outside.
hi kath! heard from my mom that you guys got to meet and tour the house today, so glad karen liked it. i loved living there when i was in cville.
so i think we’re living parallel lives, because i had mac n cheese tonight too! yum. never have tried the whole foods brand though… will have to put it on my list. and how funny that we’re due the exact same day!! i’ve been wanting to tell you that you have totally turned me on to smoothies – i have one almost every day now. i find them to be the perfect pregnancy food… healthy, filling, and easy to digest. i’m sorry you’re still not able to eat greens. i’ve been back eating salads for 2 wks or so now, and it’s great. i missed them! still can’t quite stomach fish though, but your smoked salmon sounds good!
anyway, love your blog and will definitely keep reading!
Hey Jess!!
I didn’t realize we were due the same day either!
Yes, we are totally twins
Karen LOVES the house – it’s beautifully done and perfect for her! Your parents are sweet too.
We’ll have to meet the next time you’re in Cville!
K
Absolutely!
Wish I had a porch like that to enjoy dinner on! Lucky you
OH mac and cheese… it might not always be so nutritious but it’s SO delicious!
So in love with your porch. Sigh. Looks like it could be in a magazine.
I have not found a boxed macaroni and cheese that I actually love. I have never tried the 365 Everyday Value brand, though.

It seems that everyone raves about the 1st bar you featured but Im kinda with you…not in love with them, or maybe I’ve tried the “wrong” ones. Glad you went back to an old standby.
I actually think there are two flavors. I think this was the lemon/lime one but I remember liking the other one I had ages ago
Thought of you when I saw this on Pinterest… so cute!

That’s awesome!!! I have that phrase framed
Kraft has individual packages of Easy Mac. Put the noodles and water in microwave and then add the powdered cheese. Yummy and wet and delicious if you are after junk food that is not good for you. Adding more or less water makes it dryer or wetter. Oh such good language. They come in 10 individual packages per box. Once in awhile you just have to have it. Nice to have in the cupboard for just those days.
LOL, yes I am a human. That is so cute!
I’ve always wondered how those Raw Revolution bars are. But alas, Larabar wins…always a great choice in my book, especially the PB Choco Chip!
Agreed about the Raw Revolution bars- the cookie dough flavor was pretty nasty!
Your porch is so beautiful !
Now I have to try this Raw Revolution bar that everyone is hating on, just to see if it really is THAT bad, haha! =)
Mac and cheese & salmon sound delicious!
ohh that Mac and Cheese looks good. I’m new to the Kath Eats site, but I’m excited to try some of those oatmeal recipes!
Welcome!!
I used to make it my mission to squeeze every last glob of cheese out of the packet. I even had to implement the toothpaste rolling technique a few times but I feel it was well worth it
I totally did that
I so wanted to eat my lunch out on our porch yesterday…but than meant unearthing all the furniture…ugh! Dinner on the porch and chatting until after sunset…so romantic! Oh I am looking forward to those summer nights!
I’m so jealous of your porch! It looks so relaxing and it must be perfect to eat out there
I love macaroni and cheese! It’s the best.
Sounds like an amazing night
The porch looks So comfy!
I “pinned” your porch! You need a “pin it” button!
I have one! Although I see now it’s more for the whole post than one photo. I have the Pinterest Chrome extension that lets you choose any photo on a page – so handy.
I wonder why I don’t see it. I wonder if its an OS thing (I use firefox)? I don’t see it on my ipad either. Hmmm?
I love mixing yogurt and jam…I always thought it was a bit of a strange combo, so glad to know others do it too haha.
Your porch looks BEAUTIFUL!! I bet you can’t even imagine your house without it now!
And that bar (the first one)… yeah, definitely doesn’t sound tasty to me. I either LOVE lemon in things or HATE it. It has to be just right!
Your porch makes my heart swoon!
your porch is what every family needs: a place to gather, to chat, to make memories. i want to come over and read a book at your place!
I totally pinned your porch too. I long for one. So jealous! going to be great hang out spot.
I should be ashamed at the amount of Mac & Cheese I’ve eaten in this pregnancy. =) Carbs and Cheese. Can’t go wrong…. We have some restaurants in LA that make Mac & Cheese stuffed Grilled Cheese! No joke.
Love the visual of the porch and the thought of sitting out talking after dark! Such an amazing treat to add to the new house
Hey Kath! I know you’re crazy busy right now, but I have a possible add to your Home Neat Home series that I’d LOVE to see… A co-worker is buying a new home and wants to do a porch addition/reno… I sent him to your blog and we both had a hard time nailing down a good round of posts related to your porch. It’s exactly what he’d like to do, and he loved what he saw. When you’re ready for the next installment in the (awesome) home series, a porch post would be da bomb!!
Cheers!
Hey Susan! So just a post on the design details? I don’t know the names of them since our contractor did most of the design himself, but I can definitely do a post that recaps the construction and includes lots of photos?
How funny; I tried the same Raw Revolution Lemon Dew bar today and loved it. Different strokes, I suppose.
I’ve never tried the Lemon Dew Raw Revolution bar, but their Chocolate Cashew bar is delicious/worth trying, even if the lemon was not! (:
