After dinner I had to run to Emily‘s to return her wedding rings. Got to play with her crazy dawgs and talk to her while she made dinner!

Currently gearing up for bed. Going to do some reading first! I almost bought The Help today but decided I should try to borrow it first. Thanks to Stacy for offering to pay it forward!

Nite guys!

I LOOOOOOVE slimy okra!! The slimier the bettah :) I need to make some okra fries. My dad usually just stir fries them. I tried them raw the other day too…not quite as slimy but they sure make a quick snack!

I don’t think I’ve ever had okra once in my life… not that I can remember. Must be an East/South thing? =]

Me either – unless I’ve had some in a curry and not realised, which is a possibility! I’ve seen them in the supermarket but never known what they will taste like or what to do with them!

I haven’t had it either! Must look for it at the market :)

It is RIDICULOUSLY humid and is raining here right now so tomorrow will be even worse. I’ve given up trying to do anything with my hair besides pull it up…

Oh Kath…the slimy okra. I just can’t do it. I am scarred from childhood. Now that snack…I would have arm wrestled you for it! Looks like you had a time catching up! Have a great night.

Wow, I haven’t had a hot dog (well, faux hot dog) in ages! Even as a meat-eater, I always hated red meat. Either way…that looks fantastic! You’ve definitely got me craving one.

We love okra too! I haven’t picked it up in a while – thanks for the reminder :) Will have to try it this way. I usually just saute it or put it in a stew.

LOVE the Belinski chicken sausages! The factory where they’re produced (in Cohoes, NY) is actually only about 10 minutes away from where I live! :-D

OH Yum, the bun and the okra look delicious!!!! BTW, Kale is REALLY quite good and the eggplant parm was fantastic. Put it under the broiler to brown up the cheese a bit more before serving.

Also, The Help is one of my favorite books! Enjoy! :)

It would be nice to see update PIQs of the dawgs as they do change as they grow. Dog years progress much more rapidly than how children change (and that is fast too!)

I saw you were talking about portion control for Karen before, I was hoping some time perhaps you could talk a little bit on how much you think is a correct portion size per meal? Thanks

48 Kath July 14, 2010 at 6:53 am

Georgia,
This is so subjective that I couldn’t really do a guide. It depends on their person and their needs. But I think most people *KNOW* what the correct portion size is. Think about the 1950s :)

49 Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) July 14, 2010 at 6:21 am

I could never get into Okra! I love the idea of it, but there’s something about the texture that turns me off. Maybe I’m just not cooking it quite right. ;)

Great job on the run!! :D

I really want to try that brand of hotdogs! And I LOVE okra too, thanks to you!! I’d never thought to eat okra that had just been roasted (I had only eaten fried okra – good, but not very okra-y) until I saw okra “fries” on your blog. YUM! It’s my favorite way to eat okra now :D

I miss okra!!! We’ve only found it in one grocery store once and it was $6/pound. Kale’s nearly impossible to find too :-(

Great run!
That slim on the okra is why I avoid it. I think the only way I’ve had it and liked it is fried. But …ho-hum…don’t eat fried anything anymore. :(

I recently bought a bag of frozen sliced okra that was on sale and I just couldn’t pass up the deal. Do you have any recommendations on how to prepare this like your okra fries?

Reply

65 Kath August 31, 2010 at 4:38 pm

I have never made okra fries with frozen okra. You could probably put it in the oven and bake it nicely, but I’m just not sure how it would go.
