Comfy In Cotton

March 25, 2009

Wahoo! The peak of the weak is over. It’s all downhill until Monday’s Biochem test. April is going to be one crazy buzy month for me, but at least I have a really exciting May to look forward to: a big wedding bash in Charleston, a trip to New Orleans with Karen for Matt’s brother’s graduation from Tulane and a cruise to Bermuda the week after. Andrew will be graduating with a bang.

We nutritionists were all munchy today. Kelsey, Lauri and Ellen broke out their snacks and were kind enough to share them around. I had a few chips and hummus.

Followed by a sample of Ellen’s Coconut Acai Prana bar, which I loved.

IMG_3746 (1024x768) IMG_3747 (1024x768)

But the real snack attack occurred when Kelsey went wild at the vending machine. Who is this girl!?!? I have never seen her eat junk food in my life!

My late afternoon snack was to be a choice of one of these:

I chose the Coconut Pie LaraBar during class and shared a bite with KLM.

My test went well tonight and I came home to find Sleeping Beauty just hitting the hay. I changed into my pajamas and tickled his back for a few minutes. Our only minutes to spend together all day :(

Then I put on my fluffy organic cotton robe from Quaker’s All Natural gift box and headed down for dinner. Love this robe, but it is HUUUGE on me. A size large. I have to roll up the sleeves. But it sure keeps me comfy and warm. I especially like the hood on cold mornings ;)

Dinner was quick + simple: reheated Succatash Soup.

And a hunk of sourdough

Ready for transport into the living room for some House Hunters

Ahhh

My Lipton traveling companion Kelly put up her first tea post tonight: Tea Time: A Visit to a Sustainable Tea Plantation.

I’m really tired and off to bed early. Tomorrow’s going to be a long one, but with a really fun intermission at Kate + Nate’s for one of our Thursday Lunch Parties!!

Oh yes! I am dying for a comfy robe like that. I had to (ha!) go to a spa for a conference for work. Every minute I wasn’t in a meeting I was lounging in the “relaxation room” drinking tea, eating granola, and rocking a big soft robe. I think a robe will be my next indulgence.

Oh New Orleans..I spent the first 13 years of my life there! I have gone back to visit about 20 times since then. If you need ideas of places to eat…I know quite a few. Redfish grill is amazing. I know a lot of unhealthy options! All the touristy stuff is just south of Tulane, I am sure you will get to see it all. it is a fun city! Just be warned, it smells :)

That robe looks so comfy! It’s too bad you didn’t get to see Matt for that long today — I know how frustrating it can be to feel like passing ships on some days! When the Mister and I were both getting our Master’s it sometimes felt like that on certain days of the week. Sucks when you can’t spend time with the only person you truly want to spend time with! At least you got a few moments together ;)

New Orleans! I was just there in January.

You must have:

Dragos Chargrilled Oysters
Red Fish Grill Bread Pudding

Dr. Pepper at nutrition school? Wow! Someone once showed up to one of my classes with Gold Fish Crackers and was so ridiculed by our instructor that we all stuck with quinoa and carrot sticks until the end of the course. And the Coconut Acai Prana bar- looks so yummy. Another bar that I am sure it not yet in Canada.

I won a Quaker pack from The Fitnessista and the robe is HUGE on me too! I have to wait to put it on until after I make breakfast, otherwise I start knocking things over with my sleeves! It’s still super cozy though :)

oooooh, the illusive coconut cream pie Larabar! Those are sooooo hard to find here in Halifax. Our Planet Organic apparently carries them but they’ve been sold out both times I went to get them. Apparently they are the bestest!

Hey Kath!

I have been reading your blog for a few months now and I LOVE it! I am Canadian, but am currently living in BERMUDA!! Feel free to ask me any questions if you want ideas of what to do while on your trip. The weather starts getting nice and warm in May, although the water is still pretty cold. The May 24th weekend is when all of the locals get into the water for the first time. It is not warm here all year contrary to what most think. It was 47 degrees the other night!!! Im sure that you will have a great time- Bermuda is a very beautiful place.

I went to law school at Tulane and lived in NOLA for 3 years – let me know if you need recs or have questions, although I’m sure you have a full itinerary already. A true local foodie spot is Jacquimo’s – I think you & Matt would really like it. :)

I finally tried the Coconut Cream Pie LARABAR and it is amazing!! I think it’s my new favorite flavor. The bars don’t seem to hold me over very well, they are more like a dessert to me. They contain plenty of fat and fiber, but they need to boost the protein so they’ll have more staying power.
Anyway, thanks for introducing me to that flavor, I would have never decided to try it otherwise.
