Cloudy With A Chance Of Salad

Holla!

One of the best coffees I’ve EVER had!!

Peppermint Creme from Fresh Market. It’s better than you could imagine!!

IMG_8595 (640x427)

I normally have half caf and this cup of 100% caf left me shaky from head to toe! I cured that with some power cleaning before I got to work :)

IMG_8600 (640x427)

I made a mug to warm up this morning – and got out my space heater, which is a POS. I have to sit on top of it to feel warm. I would love your space heater recommendations!!! Anything that rocks your hot socks?

IMG_8596 (640x427)

We had another realtor come over today to get a second opinion on our house at noon. By 1:30 I was a starvin’ marvin’ ready for a Hugh Jass!

IMG_8605 (640x427)

Romaine with green pepper + carrot plus raisins and the last of BethT’s nuts! [Everyone go over to Beth's blog and say "I found your blog because Kath wrote about your nuts!" heh heh. She said it's happened before!]

IMG_8606 (640x427)

The lettuce was drizzled in Fig Balsamic vinegar and lemon olive oil that Larbs got me for Christmas last year. It was my last drop of vinegar!! Luckily I still have some oil left

IMG_8602 (640x427)

For a protein source I paired a nice bowl of greek yogurt with some Best Damn Granola and plum jam

IMG_8611 (640x427)

Ohhhhhhh yeahhhhhh. I got my fix for salad + yogurt that I’ve been missing all week!

IMG_8609 (640x427)

IMG_8603 (640x427)

I’ve got a little more work and then I’m headed to class ;( I might need to locate some mittens because it’s freezing in here!! But you know us – we wait until we can’t stand it to turn on central air.

Try the EdenPURE Quartz Infared Portable Heater. It only costs about $ .18 – $ .20 an hour to run. Great on those 50 degree days.

Hi Kath! I love infused vinegars. I have a pomegranate one at home but the fig balsamic sounds wonderful! Best Damn Granola? That’s new. I wonder how they compare with MMG. Have a great afternoon.

I love your placemats! I have the same ones in a deep purple shade. As far as the space heater goes, I would recommend this one (http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=259117-1621-5570&lpage=none). My husband and I always wait to turn out heat on (we live in Ohio!). This keeps us nice and toasty once we turn it on too. We bought it 2 years ago and it is still going stong!

My house is freezing too! I When I go home for lunch I turn the space heater on for our dog, and I have her in a doggie fleece so she won’t freeze.

I love flavored coffees. Yours sounds perfect for the holidays! We have a Holmes Whisper Quiet Twin Ceramic space heater and it works really well. I think we got it at Target a few years back.

Mmmm… that coffee sounds perfect for a chilly day. And I’m loving your big salad! Perfect ingredients!

I have a quick question for you… I just bought an eggplant today and would like to bake it somehow. Any suggestions for the best method of doing this? Should I cut it into rounds first? or should I just poke holes in the eggplant and cut it after baking? Also, what spices go well with eggplant?

Thanks Kath! :)

Kath,

Get a Vornado. It’s a heater fan and you can set the temp. I think mine was about $100 from BB&B but it works like a breeze and heats up a room in a hot second! Love it!

I have been craving salads ever since I got back from San Francisco. I am in desperate need of a space heater like that – especially with all this rain this week!

Costco has got this amazing space heater that uses way less electricity than a normal one, and you can set it to heat up a small space, or a whole room. It is BOMB!

I recently purchased a LASKO heater that is great! It has multiple temp settings, fan speeds, and it oscillates. Like $39 at Target.

It is strange to hear you talk about it being cold after it being so hot before. Enjoy your evening :-)

Hi. Nice salad. I noticed you said that you added the greek yogurt for protein. Often for lunch I like a large salad with nuts, seeds, beans or legumes, avocado, and bread on the side with more avocado. Is this protein-deficient then? I thought that would be an adequate efficient meal.

That salad looks yummy. You know those stretchy gloves that you can get really cheaply in the winter? I use them for running-anyway, they’re tight enough that you can type in them =D Like these: http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Stretch-Gloves-Adults-Black/dp/B00025X21M/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1258062569&sr=8-2

I have this baby heater I bought from Target for about 20 bucks (it’s the smallest one you can buy from Holmes). Definitely buy one with a fan, so the heat actually goes further than two feet from the heater.

Reply

48 Shannon November 12, 2009 at 5:29 pm

Used too have the same space heater and I would totally put my feet on it and hover over it to warm up. I think the trick is to have a forced-air heater.

I am jealous of your fancy olive oil! I love that container.. it looks vintage!

I was wondering if you could offer me some advice. About a month or two ago things started to click and I began exercising. I fell in love with it and now I exercise 4-5 days a week. Recently I have been noticing my appetite increasing and I feel like it is getting out of control! My stomach is constantly growling and I can’t seem to satiate myself for more than 2-3 hours. I understand exercising requires more calorie intake but I was wondering if this happened to you when you started and if it wear off once my body gets used to it? I definitely listen to my body and eat when I need to but I’ve never felt this ravenous! If it never goes away maybe I could sign up for Man vs Food? haha

50 Kristie November 12, 2009 at 5:53 pm

I’m always so I’d probably go crazy if we waited to turn on the heat! That or I’d literally live beside the space heater and not move. Not a fan of the cold at ALL.
However that coffee sounds like a darn delicious way of warming right up! Peppermint flavoured drinks are right up my alley!

Heather,
Cut it into cubes and saute or roast. If you click on “eggplant” in my tag cloud you’ll find lots of cooking methods.

H-woman,
They were bought!! She gave them to me when I visited in September.

carrie,
If you’ve got beans, nuts and bread you’re getting lots of protein. My salad just had veggies and a few peanuts, so I added more.

Chelsea,
I need those!

Sammi,
It’s impossible for me to give you any advice without seeing an analysis of your exercise and food intake. But I’d try adding some heft to your meals and see if that helps. If it does, I bet you were just undereating too much.

Kath
