When I opened my eyes this morning I got that same feeling one gets on Christmas morning: a surge of excitement about Gossip Girl and pumpkin cottage cheese oats!!
This is probably my very favorite oatmeal recipe:
- 1/4 cup Scottish oats
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 scant tbsp each of chia seeds and raisins
- 1/3 cup pumpkin, stirred in at end
- 1/4 cup cottage cheese, stirred in at end
- Cinnamon + vanilla, stirred in at end
- Toppings: Crunchy Coconut granola, coconut, a few butterscotch chips, Maranatha AB (my fav!)
Perfection!!!
Because I prance….
In honor of OPRAH, here’s a tidbit about my favorite seasonal coffees
Deck The Blog, Deck The Mug
I think the Fresh Market makes the absolute best coffee around. And their seasonals are just as good!
Peppermint Creme and Christmas Blend – both are available online. Both are amazing. The peppermint is minty and rich and the Christmas is full of warm cookie spices.
And I found this Gingerbread at Trader Joe’s yesterday. It’s really nice!! Very gingery. The coffee isn’t quite a rich as Fresh Market’s but I still liked it a lot. It actually reminded me a bit of the coffee I had in Kenya!
Excited for a run today. Some studying for finals, which I have on Wed. and Friday.

Christmas coffee and Christmas mugs go very well together. The oatmeal looks delicious, as always!
I definitely want to get peppermint creme online now!!
I love cottage cheese in oatmeal! Thanks for the info about your favorite seasonal coffees!
I’ve never really been into flavored coffee but peppermint sounds like it could be delicious!!
OOOoooohh the holiday spirit is just OOZING from this post. Love it!
Good luck on finals!!
I haven’t had cottage cheese oats yet this winter– I need to make some; I love the creaminess that the cc adds.
GG was a good one last night!
I really would love to try TJ’s holiday flavors but none are decaf–how upsetting
I’m still working on my Spring Blend from this past summer!! I get chills every time I open the pouch and take a sniff. I’m on the lookout for a pumpkin flavored coffee!
good luck studying. i love you christmas mug! i remember seeing vixen… i’m assuming you have one for each reindeer? so cute!
I was wondering what the gingerbread coffee tasted. It’s definately oatmeal weather here..28 degrees outside. Cozy Chez Panisse tonight !!
LOVE THE MUG!!! Is that Pottery Barn? I must be on the lookout for those seasonal flavors!
Yep!
Gossip Girl was sooo good last night – Nate = swoon
And those coffees look phenom!
I love the Peppermint Creme coffee! Their seasonal flavors are the best
I just bought that gingerbread coffee too but haven’t had the chance to make it. Maybe later today if the afternoon really starts dragging…
have agreat morning kath! beautiful bowl of oats, per usual
Haha – there’s nothing better than that feeling.
I haven’t watched Gossip Girl yet either this morning but that’s definitely on the agenda for later this week. I heard it was good!
Your breakfast looks so cozy, I’m jealous. And my sister has that gingerbread coffee! We had it on Thanksgiving!!
I’m ordering the peppermint creme one! I’ve been wanting it ever since you starting drinking it
I LOVE Fresh Market coffee.. delicious!
I have a random question. I’ve been really really wanting to get a Garmin and I was just wondering about your opinion on this since I know you have one. Is it worth the price or is there a similar product that is less expensive?
Thanks!
Jessica,
If you’re a runner, definitely get a Garmin. If you’re more into cross training, get the Polar F4 or F6. The Garmin only measures distance and pace, so it doesn’t work at all indoors, the Polar only measures heart rate and calories burned, so it can be used indoors or out, but can’t tell you pace or distance (although you can estimate both based on calories burned). The Polar is cheaper and more versatile but if you’re into running and races, I’d rec. the Garmin. I dont’ think there is anything that uses GPS that is less expensive
K
Thank you for the advice! I am definitely a runner so the Garmin is sounding like the best option. It is an investment but I know I will get a lot of use out of it.
Yum! We don’t have a Fresh Market here in Chicago, but I was able to find some great coffee picks at Whole Foods recently. They carry a brand called Allegro that is delish!
great coffee recommendations! i always drink the same old thing, so this gives me some new ideas
I’m actually pouting because I am so jealous of your Holiday coffee!
I wish we had a Fresh Market in Rhodey! Those look so good.
I love the Fresh Market seasonal blends. The Pumpkin blend was delicious and so is the Peppermint Creme!
I really want to try that Gingerbread coffee and I am still trying to find the Sugar Cookie Tea!!
I absolutely ADORE those PB reindeer mugs!! I just bought my mum the cloth napkins for Christmas. Vixen is the best :O)
We have those same reindeer mugs! We have the plates and bowls too. I love them…and have been know to use them year round
Have a great day! Hope the rest feels as exciting as Christmas too!
i love the fresh market too!! have you tried the peppermint creme or pumpkin spice? both so good!
That breakfast sounds delicious! I’m not a fan of cottage cheese, though I’ve never tried it in oats. Maybe I’ll try this with ricotta, or get brave and try the cottage cheese. Thanks for the idea!
Yum, I was just thinking about pumpkin oats this morning while I was eating breakfast. I think I will make some tomorrow!
hey kath,
i’m also a fan of maranatha AB

have you tried the sunland dark chocolate PB?
absolutely FABS,
smells like PB cups but tastes even better.
I haven’t see that one!
sooooooooo good…
it’s made in california.

spicy southwestern,

Oh Kath, what an influence you are! I have been off all week and every day enjoying my bowl of oats with a side of Gossip Girl!!! It’s GLORIOUS! I don’t know how I will ever be able to go back to normal after indulging in this kind of morning.
Have a great day!
Glorious indeed!
I love seasonal coffee and teas! One of the best parts of the season.
Mmmmm all of those coffees sound superb!
Oooooo!! Love the mug!
That coconut granola sounds scrumptious, as does that Trader Joe’s coffee!! Have a great day!
too bad i dont like coffee because those sound delicious

The Winter Blend from TJ’s is quite good, too. With a dash of cream, it tastes just as good as any fancy stuff. It’s all the spices they put in it! Yum!
I might give the gingerbread coffee a try when I next get to TJ!
Yum, love pumpkin oats. Today I made melted banana trick oats and added hersheys dark cocoa and some peppermint extract….. and proceeded to lick the bowl to not miss a drop.
I love TJ’s Gingerbread coffee, the spices are great. I think I’m going to try their Wintry blend next, which has peppercorns (?) in it haha. Those Fresh Market ones sound awesome, might have to look into ordering them online….
Off to Fresh Market I go… I needed to go anyways but I’ll definitely pick up some new coffee!
have you ever tried any of those coffees black? I’m a huge latte and cappuccino fan, but for some reason always drink my coffee without cream and sugar!
Lauren,
Yes, they are good black. I only add a splash of skim milk to my coffees – no sugar.
thanks… I’ll have to try them! the fresh market looks really neat, and it looks like there is one coming to MA soon!
gingerbread coffee sounds amazing. i wish it came in decaf!
OMG, I am going to have to try and find the gingerbread coffee!! My daughter would love it too!
I am definitely going to have to try some Fresh Market seasonal coffee. I have their Kona blend, and it’s delish, but holiday flavors are always so much fun.
I LOVE peppermint. Peppermint hot chocolates are my favorite treat this time of year! Yumyum!
I will have to try cottage cheese in my oatmeal next time! good luck studying with your finals! Ugh, mine are stressing me out!
Love the Prancer mug
Gingerbread coffee! I need!!
Also–I’ve been meaning to ask this: A lot of your oats recipes call for coconut–which happens to be my version of your onion aversion haha. Any suggestions for subs?
Haha – I am very sympathetic then!! Just leave the coconut out! There isn’t really a replacement.
I just might have to order that peppermint coffee. Sounds good.
It’s so cold in my house that I wish I drank coffee to warm my hands up. Maybe I should make tea?
Yes! I love the gingerbread coffee from Trader Joes…there are chunks of deliciousness in the jar…I freshly grind it and my house smells awesome.
And I’m obsessed with reindeers…so I love your mugs!

I never thought of putting cottage cheese in oatmeal – looking forward to trying this out.
Apart from a Starbucks peppermint mocha latte, I have never tried a peppermint flavoured coffee. I would love it if this brand were available in Canada
Oooh that coffee looks great- I’ve never tried that brand!
After seeing them on your blog a while ago and trying them, I must say pumpkin/cottage cheese oats are one of my favs, too! I just do a simple topping of maple syrup and a little pb, though — still very yummy.
My other favorite cottage cheese combo sometime — banana oats with cottage cheese and chopped apple added on top, it’s a great salty/sweet combination!
That oatmeal looks so good that I think I actually got a little tear in my eye… I’m making a vow today – when I’m no longer restricting calories to my “losing weight” level, the first thing I’m making is a bowl of that oatmeal. Not chocolate…not pizza… Oatmeal.
Looks TOO good!
Where did you buy your fresh market coffee?
The Fresh Market!!!
