Chest, Then The Rest

July 2, 2012

Back at Pump this morning – I basically skipped chest on the bench with a bar (which has started hurting my lower back in all kinds of ways) and instead did a bunch of knee pushups (I can’t do regular anymore not because of my shoulders or chest but because my abs might rip open!) and then some seated stretching while the group finished the track. The rest of the class was just fine since Monday is mostly free weights anyways, so there isn’t much I have to modify. I just have to get over not doing what everyone else is doing on the few tracks I can no longer do! Friday I’m going to do machine/free weight lifting again – my days with the pump bar are over.

We have lots of leftovers in the fridge. For lunch I heated up some of the pasta bake from our dinner party with Meredith and Garrick last week. I mixed in 2 spoons of cottage cheese for even more protein – and cheese! It was delicious!

And just had a simple salad on the side.

A got a bunch of these Hint Fizz waters for our party and love them! The blackberry is incredible. No sugar, sweetener or anything – just flavored water.

I saved a triangle in my stomach for these cookies that Lauren brought me!

They were soft, not too sweet and super chewy – I had half of one to end the meal.

I have an appointment and then some 31 week photos to edit and write up!

I gotta get some of that water!!! I am all about any kind of drinks that have zero to under 10 grams of sugar in them. I am not a fan of overly sweet drinks, and always water them down.

Oh I love Hint Fizz!!

Have a great appointment!

Off topic to your post but I went to the recipe page to double check a recipe and I just had to say that I love how you revamped it!

4 KathEats July 2, 2012 at 12:55 pm

Oh good!

I’m envious of all your gorgeous “simple salad” pictures. I’ve given up buying lettuce, because I never seem to be able to use it all before it goes slimy in my one person house. Do you or your readers have any tips for storing lettuce? Thanks and I hope the bad storms passed you all by! Sarah

6 KathEats July 2, 2012 at 12:55 pm

I always wait to wash it. I rarely have it go bad on me but I do use it within 5-7 days at the most

7 Lynda July 2, 2012 at 1:59 pm

I have the same problem with lettuce. I’ve been washing it ahead of time but maybe I will wait and wash as needed as you suggested. Thanks!

I find that sometimes it is just too wet from the grocery store so I wrap it in paper towels and put it in a ziplock bag. If there is any kind of twist tie on it (like on my kale) I take that off. I don’t wash it until I use it.

When I buy leafy greens, I like to wash them, place the individual leaves on paper towel, roll it all up and store in a container…a plastic ziplock bag will do….and store it in the crisper. Great way to travel with it too! Hope that helps!

Sarah: The best way I have found to make lettuce last is this way:
Wash and divide up the lettuce. Dry it as best you can. If it is still a little wet, that’s fine. Then wrap all the leaves in paper towels, put it in a plastic bag or sealable storage bag and store it in the crisper of your refrigerator.

My lettuce will last 1-2 weeks this way, easily.

Thanks for the advice all!

Maybe everyone else already knows but what do the little symbols mean on the packaging of those cookies?

13 KathEats July 2, 2012 at 3:15 pm

I’m not sure – maybe just their logos?

14 Alice July 2, 2012 at 3:55 pm

Go to the Sticky Fingers Bakery site and run your curser over the symbols.

That pasta looks great but the cookies look even better! :) There is nothing like a soft and chewy cookie. I love them.

16 Khushboo July 2, 2012 at 1:13 pm

Still impressed with your fitness levels despite your pregnancy :)

23 Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See July 2, 2012 at 2:26 pm

Yum! I live about 10 minutes away from the original sticky fingers. I’ve only been there once for brunch, but I loved it :)

24 Millie Snyder July 2, 2012 at 2:40 pm

I need to try some of this hint fizz water. I haven’t seen it at the grocery store yet though. Also I like you idea of adding a little bit of cottage cheese to the pasta. Thanks again for sharing!

25 Sarah@The Flying ONION July 2, 2012 at 3:13 pm

30 Julie July 2, 2012 at 6:50 pm

I love cottage cheese – but never would have thought to add it to pasta. I’ll have to try that next time!

31 Lauren July 2, 2012 at 7:04 pm

just sampled the Hint Fizz at the Fancy Food Show a few weeks ago and LOVED them. I mixed the peach and blackberry together and it was fantastic!

32 Julia H. @ Going Gulia July 2, 2012 at 7:16 pm

Oy, I really should give cottage cheese another shot. I just can’t bring myself to try it–it looks so unappealing to me!

33 Alexis July 2, 2012 at 8:39 pm

That water looks so refreshing!

34 Jo July 2, 2012 at 10:45 pm

Hi Kath, how far into your pregnancy did you stop doing toe push ups etc? I am now 6weeks Pregnant but have not been training as been a little nervous :-) I know people say you should not do any ab work etc, its all so confusing!

35 KathEats July 3, 2012 at 6:11 am

I think about the second trimester… When my stomach really started to change

36 Cait's Plate July 2, 2012 at 11:29 pm

Oh my goodness those cookies are like my heaven!! I’m such a sucker for an oversized cookie :)

37 Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning July 3, 2012 at 6:18 pm

I’ll be interested to see what you think about using free weights for the chest track on Friday- hopefully it will help! Glad the cookie was good- I have never actually had that flavor, but have had MANY other treats from Sticky Fingers, and everything has been beyond delicious!

38 KathEats July 3, 2012 at 7:36 pm

Cookies are now gone! Karen loved them too :)

39 michelle July 3, 2012 at 6:48 pm

Where did you find the hint fizz? I would love to find something like that. Maybe it would help me kick this nasty soda habit.
