Chair Pose

February 16, 2010

I’m trying something new!! Taking my lunch photos at home when I pack it and then uploading as a draft to edit from work. I think it’ll be a nice upgrade from 100% iPhone photos :)

Today’s photo shoot took place on a chair near a window. The natural light was much appreciated by my lens!

Included in the lunch tote was a spinach salad drizzled in olive oil and agave and topped with leftover sweet potatoes + squash! Insta-salad.

IMG_6073

The Siggi’s along with a container of ground flax and Crofter’s Superfruit Spread (I don’t care if my flax gets soggy – it was good to save an extra container! But it really didn’t lose its texture at all!)

IMG_6075

Of course I tried the Siggi’s plain first. I liked it! It was definitely tangier than other greek yogurts, which I didn’t quite love, but I loved how thick it was. And I love the carton! But since it’s super expenisve, I’m still sticking to my staples of Oikos and TJ’s greek – with a Chobani flavor thrown in for fun.

IMG_6077

And a snuggly, romantic blood orange and kiwi.

IMG_6084

I didn’t have enough time to eat my fruits, so I”m going to save them for a snack when I get to my afternoon location.

IMG_6082

Great Real Food lunch!!

IMG_6086

I’m actually eating at EarthFare (needed a hot cup of tea to go with lunch – I was soooo cold!!!) as I make my way to the other health dept location for the afternoon (EarthFare is right on the way – how convenient!). Along with my hot tea (Gypsy Egyptian Mint!) I picked up a small cup of Thai chicken soup – only about 1/3 a cup so as not to hurt the feelings of any of my other lunch components! But it was a nice complement to the rest of lunch and I needed the warmth more than anything.

Tonight our realtor is coming over to do our paperwork. House should be up for show in 48 hours or so!! YIKES!! It looks amazing though, and our updates and cleaning and yardwork and pressure washing have TOTALLY transformed it! Cross your fingers it sells FAST – roaches and all!

I doubt it will take your house very long, It’s so pretty!!!
Love salads with sweet potatoes on top. Yum. I agree about Siggis. They are good but not worth the cost to me.

Love all the REAL foods in this lunch :-) I haven’t tried Siggi’s skyr yet, but my physical therapist highly recommends it!

That’s funny. At my grocery stores, I can find Chobani for less $$ than Oikos… and I believe their cartons are bigger right? (6 oz vs. 5.something oz?)

Totally going to try agave on my salad!

Reply

12 Kath February 16, 2010 at 5:47 pm

It is less, but I don’t believe that Chobani is organic or any special milk?

Reply

13 Hannah February 16, 2010 at 1:04 pm

Good luck! I agree that the Siggi’s is quite tangy, and even the flavoured ones are. But sadly you’re right, it also is too expensive for regular consumption!

I love making extra sweet potatoes and squash so I can use up the leftovers. Those are two foods that I never get sick of. And I’m always tempted to try Siggi’s, but haven’t yet because of the price…if I were to splurge, I’m wondering which would be the best flavor to try.

Just found your site through a friend of mine, and I’m enjoying your posts.

Do you always eat the acorn squash peel? What additional nutrition does it provide?

Reply

21 Kath February 16, 2010 at 5:48 pm

Yes, but I don’t think there are any specific nutrients other than fiber. Although the most nutritious part of a potato is just under the skin, so maybe squash is the same.

That Siggi’s stuff is so good; expensive though! Try the blueberry, it is my favorite.

The package is insanely cute on that siggi.

Nothing tops fage for me. Even though it annoys me to no end that it says “pronounced fa-YEH” on the package so my bf always says fa-YEH over and over when I eat it…

OMG I love Skyr! My husband and I honeymooned in Iceland (yeah, we are sort of weird) and we loved the skyr while we were there. Since we had an action packed honeymoon with lots of hiking, we often packed skyr in our lunches. DELICIOUS! SO jealous you can find it near you (even if it is expensive).

Hi Kath, Ive been reading your blog since day one. Honestly. I love it and I love your philosphy on food. I followed closely how you ate for a while (real food with treats from time to time, big breakfast, lots o veggies). and I felt AMAZING! However, I have made a turn in the wrong direction — giving in to too much alcohol, midless eating, simple carb’s, and lots of sugar free stuff. Was wondering how to find my way back and if you know of any books/services or would be willing to help me get back on track. Willing to pay you for your services of course. Thank you.

GOOD LUCK with the house!!!

From the pictures I’ve seen of your house on your blog, I’m sure it’ll sell fast – it looks like a beautiful place!

Isn’t it great having a nice, real food lunch? I wish we had more of a yogurt selection here in Canada, but it seems like there’s the super expensive organic stuff, or the really cheap stuff that’s filled with preservatives and artificial things. It sucks, money-wise, that I have to go the Organic route, but I’m sure my body will thank me in the future.

Hi Kath,
Beautiful blog you have! I’m pretty new to your blog and I LOVE it, thanks for all the time and effort you put into it, you can REALLY tell that you care about it and seek to inspire your readers :)
I have a question about your education/career goals. I graduated in 2005 with a BS in Business, PR. I really want to become an RD, and have for some time, but I am lost as to where to start! Should I pursue a Master’s in Dietetics? An additional Bachelors?
ANY advice you can give me is great, thanks!
