Say hi to the new KERF kitchen!
[Minus the door in the room
]
I’m really excited about the new kitchen and its modern features – cork floors and concrete counters. And the sink – oh man – the sink is why we bought this house! Also, the curved wall
I’ve been chillin’ with painter Justin [the house is currently mostly white with gray trim and we're painting 4 rooms!] and had a few other meetings. Waiting on the internet/TV person now. Currently on Cville’s downtown mall blogging – free Wifi!! I WALKED HERE!!!
Knowing I’d be gone all day, I packed a lunch:
The usual salad with bleu cheese, peppers, yellow tomatoes and spinach. Plus olive oil and pumpkin spice balsamic from the Boston Olive Oil company.
For the ‘protein’ component I had cottage cheese with fig jam and ground flax
Matt brought me a hunk of Cville Crunch from the bakery
The sellers left their fancy microwave that has a mini oven on the bottom – perfect for heating bread. I am not yet sure if I’m going to let this ‘wave take up countertop real estate, but it does look kinda cool and shiny modern.
Chocolate for dessert
This house is almost starting to feel like ours!
I’m a tease. More photos later!

omgshhh! I love your kitchen! So clean, spacious, and it’s open with windows~ swoon!
Ahh and I can’t wait to see them! I’m interested to see what kind of colours you’re going to slap up on those walls!
so exciting! you’ll be moved in before you know it!
I’m not sure why, but your new kitchen totally reminds me of the kitchen in Young House Love’s old house!
KERF and YHL are the two blogs I check in on once a day!
Nice! That curvy wall definitely is neat. I would try to lean and sit against it while waiting for stuff to bake, lol
Cute kitchen! I can’t wait to see more of it… Tease!
Your new kitchen is beautiful!
Cute! Can’t wait to see more pics.
~
Such a cute kitchen! I love all of the unique features about it too. Definitely has a KERF flare to it!
When we were buying, I never could find an affordable house with a nice kitchen. Jealous! Our kitchen sucks.
Ahh, so excited to see how you organize and decorate!
OMG that kitchen! I love it. How do you get so lucky finding wooden countertops?! Nowhere near me has them apparently.
They are all from IKEA – very affordable!
YAY for new kitchen!! do you think that there is enough room for an island for even more prep space??
I am also curious about the colors you chose for painting! can’t wait to see
finally, pumpkin spice balsamic sounds delicious. as does the cottage cheese/ fig jam/ flax mix!
It might be a wee bit too tight..
Ah Kath, I love the new kitchen! I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a fancy microwave!
LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the kitchen!! Most important room in the house if you ask me
So much fun!!!!!!! I have never seen a microwave like that, pretty high tech!
What a great kitchen! A lovely space to cook in
The kitchen is lovely, so exciting!!! That’s the best part about getting a new place.
OKay what a cool curved wall! I am a fan
Your house looks beautiful Kath!
The curved wall is nice because it adds a little somethin’-somethin’ to the kitchen space – I like it! Can’t wait to see what the rest of the house looks like once you guys are all moved in!
What a fantastic kitchen!! I am so happy for you guys. That microwave is also really, really cool. I’ve never seen such an appliance.
Oh my gosh so excited to see more! I love the ceiling lights, too! Those are really bright and modern.
I can’t wait to see more photos — the kitchen is lovely!
ah! the kitchen is beautiful!
KAth!! The house is beautiful! An interior Design magazine enthusiast like yourself must be stoked!!
. Congrats!!! xox
Moving into a new house is always so much fun. Can’t wait to see more pics of the place!
Congrats on the move!
Glad to see it is going well! The kitchen looks great, and it is so awesome that you are within walking distance of things.
I love white kitchens!! I can’t wait to see what you “cook” up in there! Did you make the fig jam and are holding out on us? I’m looking for a recipe to use up the rest of the costco-sized amount I bought before they go bad… any recommendations. Have had some spicy fig store-bought stuff in the past that was pretty good.
It’s Trader Joe’s!
I keep forgetting that not everyone has seen all the photos of the house! Can’t tease me
I find it so interesting that the appliances come with the house. We generally schlep our own appliances when we move from place to place
I had cottage cheese, strawberries and ground flax for lunch! Great minds!
I love the curved wall and the cork floors! Super sweet!!
That kitchen looks fantastic!! I don’t blame you for being hesitant on the microwave front. Counter space must be valued!
Cork flooring in a kitchen is GENIUS! I always always complain about our slate flooring and how it hurts my feet. That micro + heater is a great idea too. I could see you guys using it a lot for your bread.
Love the kitchen. Looks really spacious and the sunlight is great!
I love the new kitchen! Can’t wait to see more of the house.
Hey Kath! I have always love reading your blog over the years. Your blog was one the first few blogs that inspire me to eat healthier and I thank you for that.
Anyways, the kitchen is so cute! The curvy wall is also a nice touch.
Thanks Kim!
I love the kitchen!!! It has so much charm.
The cork floors and concrete counters would have sold me. Plus, on my list of “must-haves” for our next house is a window over the kitchen sink which you have.
I can’t WAIT to see the rest of the house. Super cool that you can walk to downtown. You can’t get much more convenience than that.
i like the look of the microwave! totally modern and sleek. and a warming drawer?! perfection if you ask me.
PLEASE!! More photos!!
SUCH a tease!! can’t wait to see the finished product!!
Ooooh new stuff is so exciting! Cute kitchen. I’d definitely keep that shiny ‘wave out. Looks useful! Maybe you have room for a mobile microwave cart or small island?
VERY cool! How exciting for y’all.
The last house we lived in had a build in microwave above the stove so we got rid of our countertop one. When we moved to where we are now, we realized we would need to buy another one – but in the few weeks that we went before we got to that on our list we realized we didn’t want to lose counter space and didn’t really miss the microwave anyway. So we’re going without!
I love it! Everything looks so clean and white! You must be so excited to cook in it
Love it!! and that microwave is pretty awesome – love the mini-oven.
I like the curved wall, and the microwave is awesome! You are almost in your new home full-time

Love the new kitchen! The cork floors look amazing… and that microwave with a warming drawer could definitely heat up some of your great GH breads!
The new kitchen is gorgeous! They say that when you remodel a house, the most bang for the buck comes from the kitchen and bathrooms and judging by how cool that kitchen is (cork floors, concrete counters, the microwave)..I’d say it was a good bang for their buck and yours since you’re now the lucky recipient of that kitchen.
Modern and clean lines. Love it!
looks fun and clean! am I missing the concerte countertops? they look like butcher block to me.
They are on the far wall with butcher on the sides
That’s exciting! Gah, it’ll feel great to be cooking in that thing!
Can’t wait to see more pictures of your new charming home. My husband actually made an island for my parents’ home and topped it with the hugest slab of concrete that some construction friends helped him pour. They love it.
Love the kitchen! Can’t wait to see more pictures of the house
Pumpkin spice balsamic. hmm, I need to get my hands on some of that!
What a gorgeous kitchen! Modern but still homey and comfortable, and words cannot describe the magnificence of that curved wall! I’m looking forward to all of the kitchen’s future creations.
Is that a pot rack on the left? I’ve always wanted one, but our kitchen design just doesn’t allow for it! So excited for you & your new place! And walking to the downtown Mall!
Yes!!!
More photos! I love your style!
So excited for you!! And your kitchen is pretttttyyy. I wouldn’t let the microwave take up the counter space. I almost never use my microwave–isn’t that what the broil setting in the oven is for? To heat stuff up really fast? :O)
LOVE that kitchen!!!!!
I LOVE the kitchen, and that microwave is seriously cool, never seen one with a warming oven! So so excited to see the whole place and what you do with it!
I love the curved wall! More pictures soon, pleeeease!
can you show us a picture of the sink?
Eventually, yes!
CORK FLOORS!!! That is so cool.
Hi
I’ve been reading your blog for a short while now, and this is my first comment!!! I must firstly tell you, I really really enjoy reading your posts, and also, the cottage cheese looks yum! I’ve never tried having it like that, with a fruit conserve and flax meal…very interesting; I think I’ll give that a go today
Thanks Asuma!!
Love the new kitchen, can’t wait to see more of the house!
Congrats on your new house kath! I can’t even imagine how exciting it must be….and your kitchen is glorious! P.s. I have been reading over and over your “RD page” and it really is so helpful!!! maybe one day I will be a future RD as well
Can’t wait to see the rest!
Oooh! I love the new kitchen – kitchens definitely are the most important to me
How exciting! Can’t wait to see the rest. We remodeled our kitchen last year and it is the BEST feeling when you are done!
Everything looks great! Can’t wait to see more pics
What’s the extra door for? Love the kitchen…spacious yet compact enough that it looks like all the essentials will be within reach. And I’m jealous that you have a dishwasher lol. Hubby and I are still renting and I’ve already told him a dishwasher is #1 on my must-have list when we buy a home. I seriously wouldn’t care if we were living in a cardboard box, as long as it had a dishwasher, haha.
It’s trim was being painted from the other room
Oh, what a gorgeous kitchen! Looks so fresh and bright.
LOVE the kitchen—and love the appliances. Man, I can’t wait to buy a house and have a kitchen that is MINE to do what I want! Jealous of you right now.
I’ve been stirring a fabulous strawberry jam into my oatmeal lately. Jam represent!
Looks awesome! Can’t wait to see more pics of the concrete countertop…sounds interesting!
Sweet kitchen. As soon as I saw the curved wall, I thought “It looks like a hobbit house!” Because they love round doorways…and I know you’re a LOTR fan. Haha.
Love that cottage cheese combo! Even better if granola is involved!
Ooh love the new kitchen! Moving house is so exciting! Minus all the hard work of course!
Hope you have a fab time getting all settled in, enjoy it!
Looks like a fun and functional kitchen. I was wondering if you had painting or many other projects to do before and after moving in. How lucky that you have someone painting for you. I’m doing some painting in our house and it’s not one of my favorite projects! I do like seeing the end result and I can’t wait to see what colors you chose. Love the microwave, how great is that warming drawer? What brand is it?
We are not handy at all and Matt is very busy, so we decided to hire a painter. I’ll share colors and things soon! I’m not sure of the microwave brand – I’ll have to check later.
You two seem to be handy/talented in lots of areas, but you certainly are busy. The time and the mess involved is what bothers me the most about painting, I don’t really mind the actually painting, but two young children make painting and other projects more challenging. My husband is very handy so we do a lot of the work on our 1930′s house but we also hire someone to things like refinishing floors and texturing walls and ceilings. My next project is to make some curtains. Have fun with organizing and decorating and before you know it you will be all settled in!
LOVE the looks of the new kitchen!
Love that kitchen!!! So bright and airy. Looks like a part of the house that I would be in all the time.
