Our final night! Sad!
It began with cocktail hour at sunset
After fresh showers
Snacks included wheat thins and cheese, plus some munch sesame sticks mom brought from home.
We walked to dinner after some conversation
Karen, your swing misses you!!
Dress loose = nothing to show. Dress tight =
We went to Mojo’s for dinner, which is the former Ebb + Flo’s that we loved for an inexpensive seafood dinner. Sadly, the ownership and therefore the menu has changed and everything is 50% more expensive ![]()
We tried the sweet potato fries to start
And guess who ate a SALAD for dinner!! I’m feeling much more like my old self! The salad was greens with a few veggies and olives
Larbs and I shared the blackened catfish over grits, so I topped my salad with my portion.
This ended up tasting wonderful!! Loved the good ole Southern grits.
Back at home, we played a family game of Rummikub. Every played this game? It’s one of my very favorites!! We’ve been playing for years and years.
Dad won.
Cake x3 nights in a row. I don’t want to say I’m caked out…but I kind of am. But I’m sure a week from now I’ll be wishing I had a slice! This was one of the best cakes ever [from Carolina Cake Company in Durham]. This plate looks huge, but it was a small desert plate – we made the cake stretch 3 nights perfectly!

Those sweet potato fries look great! I’m glad you had a good trip.
Your food looks amazing, those sweet potato fried have me drooling! I know how you feel about leaving, I just spent a week in Colorado Springs with my parents and. Ow I’m in a cab from the airport to my apartment in Chicago.

The catfish over grits look AMAZING!!! Again, such a beautiful place!
What a beautiful day! Your catfish dish looks delish! Just got back from my son’s hockey game…the fog this evening is so thick! Sure missing the sunshine!
mmm, i love the idea of topping salad (or oatmeal, for that matter), with whatever delicious other things you want to eat. best of both worlds!
the vacation really does look incredible. sunny and beautiful. i can’t wait for summer!
All of your pictures remind me of a place I go a lot – Kennebunkport, Maine! Totally different locations but very similar!
Your legs look great! (And so does that cake!!)
Such a wonderful opportunity to be with your family before the baby arrives. You will look back on this trip fondly as a time where you all got to relax and enjoy each other. So fun! Thank you for all the great photos- they were very relaxing to me.
The entire getaway has been fabulous. I know I keep saying it, but this is SUCH a trip down memory lane to my old life when Scott and I used to live there.
And you have me craving the sweet potato fries right about now!
I love rummikub! When I was growing up my grandfather owned a beach house and we would always play when we went to the beach. It was the first game my husband and I bought as a married couple.
Caked out?? Unheard of!
Your dinner looks amazing! The salad and sweet potatoes fries look so yummy. I hope you enjoyed the meal.
That cake! Ohhhhhh that cake!
Wow it was kind of a mini vacation for me just looking at the pictures and reading along.
The blackened catfish looks pretty amazing!!!
My whole family loves rummikub. We bring it on all our family vacations!!! I wish I could have cake 3x in a row, but with 3 siblings, birthday cakes never survive for that long
you look radiant!
You sure did have perfect weather for Bald Head Island! We were on Oak Island yesterday which isn’t too far away and it was GORGEOUS!
I LOVE your dress Kath!!! Where did you get it??
Thanks! It’s from Loehmann’s

Can’t wait for Baby Kerf to arrive…all my best to you and Matt!
Me and my dad are obsessed with that game! Really like your dress, looks good!
Your dinner looks awesome!
I love your dress! That is so pretty and it fits you two perfectly.
I have never been to Bald Head Island or any of the beaches in NC but that is one of my wishes to vacation.
Ooooh….I LOVE Rummikub! My family used to play that when I was growing up. So much fun!!:)
“You two” – haha! Made my day!
Hi Kath,
Thanks for the great memory of Rummikub! We used to play at my grandparents’ house all the time. I recently lost my grandmom and my grandpa died a long time ago, so it was nice to remember those happy times spent around their dining room table playing this game. I’ll have to introduce it to my children….
Looks like a wonderful time with your family!

Sweet. I used to play with my Grandma Younger who passed away as well
I love Rummikub – my husband and I play sometimes in the evening, but I play online nearly every day!
You are going to be adorable with a big belly! Dinner looks amazing and fresh.
Beautiful scenery pictures and your dress is adorable! I’ve never tried grits but people always say they’re really “gritty” [no pun intended]
Sounds like you’ve had a great time!
There is never too much cake
It’s a 3 day birthday right?
We love rummikub, a family favorite that never gets old! Cute dress
Such pretty scenery!

I don’t think I ever played before. I grew up playing Dominoes. And in fact my family still does sometimes…it’s just gotten harder to play with the grandparents. :-/
I am dying of grits cravings now!
I’ve been going to Bald Head since I was 3, and I had no idea they were closing Ebb and Flo’s! Such a bummer.
Do you guys go to Shoals Club while you’re down there? I love it, but it’s so expensive!
The Shoals was still closed for the winter
