HI
Where did I leave off?
I left work promptly around 4:00 and drove a mile or so to the YMCA. This location is has such a nicer locker room than mine! My YMCA is [I think] the second biggest Y branch in the country (second only to one just down the street) yet the locker room is pretty old and outdated. The Y I went to tonight, however, is much bigger and has TOWELS!! So nice!!
Unlike Monday and Tuesday, I had a great [long] workout tonight. 30 minutes on the ET, 20 minutes on the Stairmaster (had to get in my fill!) and about 5 of biceps and shoulders. Didn’t want to wear out my muscles before power yoga tomorrow. I showered, re-dressed, re-make-uped, and made my way in rush hour about half a mile back down the street to Dilworth Neighborhood Grill for the homebrew meeting.
How many U-turns does it take to get to Dilworth Neighborhood Grill?
FIVE.
Five grouchy U-turns. The parking lot was SO hard to get to!! I ended up doing VALET parking (which thankfully was free). They must have known the lot would be so cram packed.
Matt, Diana, and Dan weren’t too far behind me!! Dan just got into homebrewing and since Matt is no longer allowed to brew at our house due to it being on the market, he’s helping Dan learn the ropes.
Diana and I split a summer wheat
Cheers
We also split the hummus plate for an appetizer!
x2. The hummus was so flavorful, the pita so soft.
For dinner I made a "Create Your Own" salad with the following and a crabcake on top!
The salad was good – I cleared my plate. And the crabcake, while fried, was still really good.
The meeting went on while we ate and then we all broke for taste exchanges of brews.
Matt got this delicious brew and brought a handful of tasting glasses from our house to use for sampling at the meeting
I got to try a COCONUT stout made by our neighbor that was excellent
And maybe 3-4 other beer tastes? Just sips. It was still too much for a school night!
The finale of the evening was tasting Diana‘s DONUT HOLES!! She brought some from her favorite bakery. I’ve been seeing her eat them on her blog for ages and have always wondered what was so good about them!
Well now I know – it’s the slightest touch of lemon in the unbelievably delicious glaze!!
Hole-y moly!! I had three
And on that note, this girl is off to bed!

Ugh, I hate having trouble parking! So frustrating. Looks like a fun evening. I am actually looking into the home brew thing here. My husband has celiac disease and bear is so expensive. Not to mention he likes a darker beer. So, I have started my research and hope to start some soon!
Coconut brew!?! Wow! I’ve never even heard of that – must have been delicious. And donut holes? YES PLEASE!
I want a donut….yum!
I’m not much of a beer drinker… but summer wheat is a favorite of mine.
What an amazing midweek night out! Delicious foods, delicious brews, great company….can’t ask for much more!!
Awesome night!! Those donut holes sound like perfection…and I am not a big donut fan! The hummus looks incredible and nothing is better than soft pita…well maybe coconut stout!!! OMG…I neeeeed to try that!! Glad you finally got a good workout in!
That hummus looks heavenly. It’s my favorite treat with warm pita bread.
Oh those donut holes sound delicious!
I loooooooooove donut holes! They’re little perfect bites of crispy-sweet-goodness!
Does anyone suggest trying ezekiel bread? I have never tried it before and I am curious about it. I don’t know much about the differences of ezekiel to whole wheat, but I know that it is made from sprouted grains. Is it a lot better for you or about the same?
I used to eat it and it is very healthy. But between ez. and whole wheat – take your pick
The homebrewers meeting sounds like a lot of fun, I should see if there is one around here! Tons of my friends homebrew… maybe they’d let me tag along.
Tonight was so fun! Glad you guys liked the donuts! It is definitely that lemon!! mmm. I think I need to go eat another…hahaha.
mm, those doughnut holes look so good!
Those donut holes look amazing!!! and I seriously LOVE soft, pillowy pita. The stuff at my local Israeli restaurant is incredible and I just cannot find anything in any store than compares!!
Fun mid-week get-together. Definitely a great way to get over hump day.
What a fun night! I love the idea of building you own salad….and those donut holes….YUM!
u all look great.
kath, how do u get those cute smiley icons?? is that possible for any blogger…or do u have some special system?
You mean like the one in your comment!? Wordpress recognizes a handful of them. You can find the list in the Wordpress.org forums.
Those donut holes looks amazing!!
Want!!
Jenn
Create your own salad? That’s so ridiculously fun, I can’t stand it. And while I”m not a huge fan of donuts, I do love me some lemon desserts, so probably could have helped you eat those
LOVE the dilworth grill but, yeah, the parking lot can be atrocious especially after 6 or 6:30. I’m shocked to see how small of a portion their salad is though. (obviously, I’ve never ordered a salad when I’ve gone there, hence the surprise
are those donut holes from a local Charlotte bakery?
Yes – it was quite a small salad for all those toppings!!!
The donuts are from a bakery at Park Rd. Shopping Center. I’m not sure of the name, but it’s the only one there, I believe. They were awesome!
That’s awesome that you can make your own salad off a sushi-like checklist! I’ve never seen that!
As Cookie Monster says about cookies, donut holes are a sometimes food
You can never swear them off forever!! They look so good!
The whole community of home brewers just looks so cute! I doubt that’s the word they would use to describe themselves, but they really are cuties.
Build Your Own Salad is BRILLIANT. I want to open THAT restaurant.
Mmmmm, that hummus and pita looks scrumptious! Glad you had a fun night that ended with donuts!
Those donut holes always look amazing. I would love a restaurant with build your own salad.
Coconut stout sounds amazing!!
Donut holes and beer…YUM!
Is there a way that you could send me some coconut stout? I am obsessed with stouts (only real women women drink porters and stouts), and coconut would be an awesome compliment!
I barely got 1 sip myself!
Homebrewing, huh? That sounds like so much fun, I’ll have to go through some of your older posts to see if you’ve got anything more on that! And those crabcakes! Yum.
The hummus and pita looks fantastic! One of my favorites
I love restaurants where you can build your own salad!
Great post – looks like a fun night! Those doughnut holes look deeelicious…
The title made me laugh. BREEWHAHAHAHA! (evil laugh) (…sorry.
)
Happy hump day!
I can’t believe there was FREE valet parking! That never happens to me. Ever!
How cool – a create your own salad! I’ve never seen that before but that”s such a good idea
Those donut holes look to die for….yum!
Coconut stout and donut holes? Heavenly!
It looks like you all had a wonderful time! Those donut holes look amazing. Great moderation at a place like that! Salad, beer, and donut holes
I love that carolina lighthouse glass! any idea where I can get some?
They’re from Carolina Beer Co . in Mooresville
The U-Turn business sounds like a nightmare but the rest of the evening seems pleasant! Those donut holes made a great ending
Hummus trio? Oh, be still, my heart.
I love those build your own salads and pastas. I never seem to like the combos on the menus and this allows me to put my favorites in. I think this is why I love the WHole foods Salad bar.
i haven’t had a doughnut in forever (my husband doesn’t like them, so for some reason i don’t buy them – how stupid of me!) that one looks great!
Yummmy; those doughnut holes look delish!
Love the looks of that hummus plate–what were all the different flavors?
