Break A Sweat

June 12, 2012

Boy did I miss the humidity here!! I know some people can’t stand it with a passion, but humidity makes me feel cozy and warm. I spent too many months cold to not get humidity in the summer!

I was on FIRE cleaning, unpacking, laundering, organizing and catching up this morning. I pretty much got everything done (even washing the shower curtain!) so I can have the afternoon for my doctor’s appointment and then writing.

I was so sweaty and tired after my housework that I nixed the walk I had been planning. Anything that breaks a good sweat is a workout to me!

After finally cleaning myself, I dove into a 1:30pm lunch

2 scrambled eggs with cheese and jalapenos on a Whole Foods whole wheat tortilla

This should have had garden greens in it but I was too hungry and lazy to go pick some!

Plus all the best of summer:

Watermelon and cherries

2 ounces pink lemonade + lots of water

Happy afternoon!

YUM! I love how jalapenos are easy and perfect to spice up a simple dish :) Enjoy your day!

2 Presley @ Run Pretty June 12, 2012 at 1:46 pm

I consider so many random things workouts now… It’s crazy!

3 Sana June 12, 2012 at 1:48 pm

4 samantha @ peach in the city June 12, 2012 at 1:53 pm

sometimes i’m too lazy to go to the fridge for greens

5 Caroline @ After Dinner Dance June 12, 2012 at 1:54 pm

Haha I grew up in Houston (the most humid city in the US I’m pretty sure) and I will never ever ever miss humidity!

6 Johanna B June 12, 2012 at 3:06 pm

I’ll match New Orleans humidity with Houston’s anytime. I grew up there and I HATE humidity.

7 j3nn June 12, 2012 at 1:57 pm

Taking care of your home is one of the funnest workouts you can get! It yields double rewards.

I’m all about watermelon and cherries these days. Summer fruit rocks!

8 Hillary June 12, 2012 at 1:57 pm

The egg/jalapeno/cheddar combo is a new favorite of mine!

9 Katie @ Talk Less, Say More June 12, 2012 at 1:58 pm

YUM! Watermelon and cherries are definitely a summer favorite!

10 Ashley @ Coffee, Cake and Cardio June 12, 2012 at 2:00 pm

Mmmmm jalapeños!

11 Taylor June 12, 2012 at 2:03 pm

I love the humidity too, it feels like home to me! Just something we’re used to.

12 Marissa@ohhhsolovely June 12, 2012 at 2:04 pm

that lunch combo of eggs, cheddar, & jalapeno looks interesting and delicious! will have to try…

13 Liz @ Tip Top Shape June 12, 2012 at 2:06 pm

This post makes me want some watermelon!! I haven’t had one yet this season :(

14 Catalina @ Cake with Love June 12, 2012 at 2:15 pm

I love your lunch, so colurful and it looks so delicious yet simple! I culdn’t get used to the humidity when I moved to NY, I literally couldn’t breath, like there was not enough oxygen for me, now I am better, but I still prefer weather that is dry and hot!

15 Averie @ Averie Cooks June 12, 2012 at 2:21 pm

the Watermelon and cherries look awesome…cherries are still crazy $$ here…Like $6.99 a pound at the regular groc store…Can’t wait til they come down!

16 lynn @ the actor's diet June 12, 2012 at 2:22 pm

i cannot believe what i’m reading. YOU LIKE HUMIDITY? i didn’t think this existed!

17 Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) June 12, 2012 at 2:22 pm

That looks perfect to me especially with the jalapeños! YUM! Have a great afternoon and good luck at your appointment!

18 Angel7 June 12, 2012 at 2:24 pm

I wish I had a couple slices of watermelon right now! It looks so refreshing!

19 Maria@Sinfully Nutritious June 12, 2012 at 2:29 pm

You have me wanting more watermelon. My last one was not good. Glad you are home safe!

20 Angela @ Happy Fit Mama June 12, 2012 at 2:35 pm

Sounds like someone is starting to do some nesting!

Watermelon tastes so good right now! It is so refreshing.

21 Jeri June 12, 2012 at 2:37 pm

I had watermelon for lunch too. Along with my No B, LT sandwich. But I need some help! Since I still haven’t had a soda since Lent (yay me), I am drinking even more sweet tea now. Any suggestions about how to replace that soda/caffine/sweet fix? Anyone? Bueller?

22 KathEats June 12, 2012 at 3:29 pm

Why not try the juice in water technique that I use?

23 Jeri June 12, 2012 at 6:42 pm

Thanks. I will try that. I am kind of over crystal light as well. I drink like a gallon and a half of liquid all day. So let me try that. I have been using and the amount of sugar I am consuming is bananas. Thank you again so much.

24 Macrae June 12, 2012 at 7:20 pm

Try La Croix or Hansen’s. These are both sparkling water drinks and great alternatives.

25 Stephanie @ Joy in The Journey June 12, 2012 at 2:52 pm

I went to Wyoming one summer, and when I was headed back people were asking me what I missed most about home, and first thing that came to mind..”I miss the humidity!” Needless to say I got some confused looks. Cozy and warm is right on the money. Love my Maryland heat :) Glad you’re home safe!

26 @FactFinderSteph June 12, 2012 at 2:52 pm

I feel the same way about humidity!! I have never ever heard anyone else say that before! I had to travel to San Fran for work all the time last year and while I LOVE the city I really really missed it in my humid FL!

27 Jennifer June 12, 2012 at 2:57 pm

I can’t stand the humidity either. I grew up in Florida and most days in the summer you just step outside your door and instantly sweat, even in the shade.

This is the perfect time of year for you. :)

28 Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles June 12, 2012 at 2:58 pm

That is my kind of lunch! It looks delicious! ….Way to be productive, Kath!
Your fruit looks super yummy! …My little one dances for cantaloupe, I just want to eat it all day long!

29 Annette @FitnessPerks June 12, 2012 at 3:16 pm

Mmmm cheese and eggs. Great combo!

LOVE watermelon too.

30 donna June 12, 2012 at 3:30 pm

I LOVE humidity and hot weather too! I crave it! But of course, I grew up in South Louisiana, so hot & sticky was the norm. Now that I live in Charlotte, I’m often too cold, even in the summer. (And especially in the winter.) Cold weather, now, that is MISERABLE. I don’t know how anyone can stand it!
My ac stays on 77 during the summer. Anything lower….and I’m shivering!

31 OliePants June 12, 2012 at 3:35 pm

As I spend most of my time in a really hot city, I can do without humidity. I welcome cold weather with arms wide open. I had eggs for lunch too. :)

32 Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles June 12, 2012 at 3:44 pm

Love that the cherries are finally in…my son and I adore them! We both love watermelon too…need to buy some as we are also in a ‘heat wave’ here in Southern Ontario! Loving it!

33 Katie @ Peace Love and Oats June 12, 2012 at 3:46 pm

I really need to get some cherries, they’re just so expensive at whole foods and they don’t have them at Trader Joe’s

34 Lace @ Real Food Quest June 12, 2012 at 3:49 pm

About how large do you estimate for the watermelon serving? That is one that I always have trouble with.

35 KathEats June 12, 2012 at 3:54 pm

No idea – a cup or two?

36 Andrea June 12, 2012 at 6:52 pm

Just curious, but why would you need to measure out a serving of watermelon ?

37 Laura June 12, 2012 at 3:53 pm

Hmmm…that’s a thought! I’m gonna start viewing cleaning as working out and maybe I’ll get up off my lazy but and do it sometime:) I can make myself “workout” easier than I can make myself mop:)

38 Laura June 12, 2012 at 3:54 pm

Oops *butt*!!!

39 LauraMae June 12, 2012 at 4:10 pm

I grew up in Indiana and I just miss the fall weather…definetly not the summer humidity or the freeezing winters! Wash the shower curtain, thank you for the reminder! When I forget to wash them I get grossed out and don’t want to shower and then my husband wonders why I haven’t showered in awhile. =P

40 Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning June 12, 2012 at 4:36 pm

I kind of have a love/hate relationship with the humidity. It’s got to reach a certain temp for me to really hate it. I definitely love the heat, and don’t mind breaking a sweat- I’ve just got to feel “comfortable” (and drink lots of water!)

41 Courtney June 12, 2012 at 4:53 pm

Most of the places I’ve lived in my life have been humid (Panama, Florida, Texas), and I don’t love it but I can stand it. I don’t really like running in humidity, but I’m pretty used to it at this point. I’d much rather it be hot and humid then cold and dry, because I absolutely hate the cold. I have no tolerance for it.

42 Julia H. @ Going Gulia June 12, 2012 at 5:17 pm

Even hearing the words “pink lemonade” makes me feel summery…yet I don’t think I’ve had it in years! I should venture out and get some :)

43 Amanda June 12, 2012 at 5:49 pm

Are the jalapenos you use fresh or jarred? Do you find them spicy? Or do you remove the seeds? Not sure if they’d be too much heat for me….!?

44 KathEats June 12, 2012 at 7:55 pm

Jarred so they’re not too spicy!

45 Brittnie (A Joy Renewed) June 12, 2012 at 5:54 pm

You sure would love living in Houston! The summers are over 100 degrees and like 100% humidity. Does a number on a girls hair, ha!

46 Amanda @ flecksofgreen June 12, 2012 at 6:03 pm

I wish I could adopt your humidity philosophy! It makes me feel sticky and swollen…I can’t stand it lol

47 jenna k June 12, 2012 at 7:37 pm

i was dying for some cherries and watermelon today, but i have like no money right now. i found a $10 bill in my purse and got to the grocery store to find cherries at $2.99/lb! now to find some watermelon…

48 Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count June 13, 2012 at 6:25 am

I would enjoy that lunch! I’m starting to love using the pickled jalepenos! Love them!

49 Karen June 13, 2012 at 6:34 am

I echo your sentiment re. humidity…bring it on!! It’s way too early in the season to complain re. muggy weather after months of the cold, snowy stuff. I just love open-window tropical-island like living as it puts me in a state of serenity. Despite growing up in the midwest, I thrive – mentally and physically in warm/hot weather.

BTW, I have you to blame/credit for my humpday excitement, Kath. (SYTYCD – new episode tomorrow night…whee!)

50 KathEats June 13, 2012 at 7:11 am

I’m excited too!

51 Kristina June 13, 2012 at 7:31 am

I’m not sure what kind of jalapenos you buy but I just stumbled across these Thai Basil ones from Gordy’s Pickle Jar and they look pretty tasty. I ordered a jar of the pickle chips for my dad for Father’s Day since he loves pickles. Organically made is Washington, DC so pretty local!

52 Claire Lee June 13, 2012 at 8:19 am

I love your late lunch menu~!! :D
