Best Of The Best

So believe it or not, I actually saved Gossip Girl for this morning. I decided I’d enjoy it more with a warm bowl of oatmeal and I was right  I ended up reading Wicked in bed and getting up this morning to create the most wonderful breakfast scenario possible….

IMG_0106 (640x427)

Robe + slippers + Gossip Girl + sunshine + pumpkin oats + coffee

IMG_0103 (640x427)

IMG_0101 (640x427)

Today’s amazing mix:

  • 1/3 cup oats, milk, water
  • Pinch salt
  • Half banana
  • 1 tbsp 9-grain cereal
  • 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/3 cup pumpkin, stirred in at end
  • Some Cacao Bliss
  • Spoonful Barney Butter
  • Few TJ’s toasted almonds

IMG_0104 (640x427)

I think my Christmas Blend coffee today was African flavored – check out that continent shape!!

IMG_0099 (640x427)

Gossip Girl was SOOOO GOOOD!! I could not believe that they played "Whatcha Say" at the dinner table. I was smiling ear-to-ear!! And laughed because I literally DID play that at our Thanksgiving dinner when a discussion of "Hide + Seek" came up (it’s one of my dad’s very favorite songs). Can I just say that I am so ready for both Serena + Nate and Dan + Vanessa to get together!?

This bowl was taken from its placemat and enjoyed during the show :)

It’s a frosty one out there – North Carolina hit 32*! I’m going for a run in a bit and working on my final exam (a written take-home) for Nutrition Education this morning.

I cannot wait to catch back up on Gossip Girl when I get back to the states! It sounds rather chilly there- how do you muster through running when it is so cold outside? My gym membership is almost up here in Spain and since I only have a couple weeks left, I am going to stick to running outside but with the temperatures dropping- it’s harder to get out the door!

You know, I’ve never seen Gossip Girl, and now I really want to watch it. I’m with Jessica — I need to get the DVDs.

Pumpkin oats are the best — no, I take that back — Tammy’s Butternut CasserBowl is the best! You gotta try it, Kath! Check out my recipes page under oatmeal — you will LOVE butternut squash in your oats!

Kath,
I wanted to tell you that you’ve inspired me to experiment with oatmeal and this morning I put half a banana, 1/2 tsp of cinnamon (or so – I don’t measure things unless I’m baking!), and about two tablespoonfuls of apple butter plus some flax seeds. Really yummy and now i need more apple butter! I also need to try pumpkin butter.

Also, I’m a Davidson grad too. :) Go Wildcats.

At first, yes. I hated the whole college scene. But I think the plot now is as good as ever. Something does need to get shaken up with Chuck and Blair though. Not necessarily their relationship, but to one of them. I love them together, but the seemed to have tamed too much.

Hi Kath
I have started my own blog. It would be nice if you could drop by occasionally, but you are a bit overwhelmed with friends here I think. You are very ,…well., you have your head on straight. No hang ups about food, no worries about things (well, nothing drastic I don’t think anyway :) That is great when there is a lot of deprivation being practiced these days by many, etc. I appreciate your love of carbs. Excellent bowl of cocoa chilli recently.

LOVE the socks! :) You look snug as a bug in a rug!

I have a degree in Food and Nutrition Science from Florida State University! I never went on for my masters or completed my R.D. internship, so it’s basically just a piece of paper :( I wish I had gone thru with it. I LOVED my classes, but I was a bit burnt out of school and the thought of two more years was UGH at the time.

It all worked out for the best since I’m now a Stay at Home mommy to two little guys, but still would be nice to have those initials next to my name! :) Mommy, R.D.

So not to get all serious but I was wondering if you could comment on the eating and media combo. you obviously do it (as do I, I don’t have TV, but live alone so am often online when I eat… eating lunch now actually) and it is so ingrained in our culture (tv and snacks, movie theater and popcorn, etc) yet we often hear, especially for dieters, that it is a bad idea and disconnects you from your food and body cues. I am just wondering what you think/what strategies you have because I am torn. Living alone I like to have something to do during meals BUT I do sometimes find myself getting involved online and then being like oh where did my food go? very unsatisfying, same thing if I munch w/ a book or mag.
Thanks

72 Kath December 1, 2009 at 3:33 pm

Just because the “officials” say we eat mindlessly in front of the TV doesn’t mean we have to do it!! I will often eat things in bowls at the TV, but things on plates at the table. It’s just kind of my rule. Bowels are good for cuddling. I actually eat more slowly while watching a show. If I’m at the table, I eat quickly because it’s all there is to do! (Except when Matt’s there we talk). So I think so long as you’re still enjoying the food, eat it whereever you like.

You typed 32* for 32°. Here’s a quick way to insert the ° (degree) symbol:

1. Make sure number lock is on.
2. Hold down the alt key.
3. Using the key pad, type 5, then 0, then 4.
4. Release the alt key.

Presto! A degree symbol (the holding down of the alt key and then typing numbers is called an ASCII code).

:-)
